1 Ya’akov, eved (servant) of Hashem and of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach Adoneinu Yehoshua; To the Shneym Asar HaShevatim (Twelve Tribes) in the Golus, Shalom! [DEVARIM 32:26]
2 Consider it all simcha, my Achim b’Moshiach, whenever you fall into various nisayonos (tests, trials),
3 Because you have da’as that the emunah you have, when it is tested, produces savlanut (patient endurance).
4 And let savlanut be shleimah in its po’al (work) in order that you may be mevugarim (mature, grown up) and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 But if any one of you is lacking chochmah (wisdom), let him direct tefillah (prayer) and techinot (petitions) to Hashem, the One whose matanot (gifts) are given generously and without grudging, and chochmah will be given to him. [MELACHIM ALEF 3:9,10; MISHLE 2:3-6; TEHILLIM 51:6; DANIEL 1:17; 2:21]
6 But let the tefillah be offered with much bitachon in emunah (faith), in no way doubting. For the doubtful man, wavering in emunah, is like a wave of the yam (sea) being tossed by the wind. [MELACHIM ALEF 18:21]
7 Let not such a one presume that he will receive anything from Adoneinu.
8 He is an ish (man) of double mind, in all his drakhim (ways), mesupak (uncertain, having doubts) and unstable. [TEHILLIM 119:113]
9 But let the Ach b’Moshiach of shiflut (lowliness) glory in the da’as that Hashem will exalt him.
10 And let the Ach b’Moshiach who has osher (riches) glory in his bizyoinos (humiliation), in the da’as that Hashem will bring him low, because KOL HABASAR KHATZIR ("All flesh is grass," YESHAYAH 40:6,7) and so he likewise will vanish. [IYOV 14:2; TEHILLIM 103:15,16]
11 For the shemesh (sun) rises with its burning heat and dried the grass and its TZITZ NAVEL ("flower blossom falls" YESHAYAH 40:6-8) And the beauty of its appearance perished, so also the “oisher” (rich man) in his goings will fade away. [TEHILLIM 102:4,11]
12 Ashrey is the one who stands up under nisayon (trial), because, having become approved, that one will be given the Ateret HaChayyim (Crown of Life), which Hashem gave as a havtachah (promise) to those having Ahavas Hashem.
13 However, let no one say, when he is tempted, "From Hashem I am being tempted,” for Hashem cannot be tempted to crave ra’ah (evil), and He Himself trips up no one with nisayon (temptation).
14 But each one is tempted by his own ta’avah (lust, yetzer hara), being dragged off by it and being allured. [MISHLE 19:3]
15 Then after her conception Ta’avah gives birth to Averah (Transgression) and Averah, once she has fully developed, gives birth to Mavet. [BERESHIS 3:6; IYOV 15:35; TEHILLIM 7:14; YESHAYAH 59:4]
16 Do not fall under a delusion, my beloved Achim b’Moshiach.
17 Every good endowment and every matanah shleimah (complete gift) is from above, coming down from Avi HaOhrot (the Father of Lights) with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. [TEHILLIM 85:12; BERESHIS 1:16; TEHILLIM 136:7; DANIEL 2:22; BAMIDBAR 23:19; TEHILLIM 102:27; MALACHI 3:6]
18 Birtzon Hashem (by the will of G-d), he gave birth to us by the Dvar HaEmes, that we might be a kind of bikkurim (firstfruits) of all he created. [YIRMEYAH 2:3]
19 Have da’as of this, my beloved Achim b’Moshiach. Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to ka’as (anger). [MISHLE 10:19]
20 For the ka’as of Bnei Adam does not accomplish the Tzikat Hashem.
21 Therefore, having put away all filthiness and what remains of resha (wickedness) in shiflut (lowliness) and meekness receive the implanted Dvar Hashem which is able to save your nefashot.[Rev 3:20]
22 Now be Shomrei HaDvar Hashem and not Shomei HaDvar only, thereby causing yourselves to fall under remiyah (deceit, deception).
23 Because if anyone is Shomei HaDavar and not Shomrei HaDavar, this one is like a man looking at his ponum in a mirror,
24 For he observed himself and has gone away and immediately forgot what he looked like.
25 But the one having peered into the Torah HaShleimah (the Perfect Torah), the Torah HaCherut (the Torah of Freedom), and there remaining, not as a forgetful listener but one who is shomer mitzvot and goes into action, this one will have a bracha on his head in all his acts. [TEHILLIM 19:7]
26 If anyone considers himself to be one of the Charedim (Orthodox, G-dfearing Jewish religious ones), yet has lashon hora and does not bridle his tongue but instead causes his lev to fall under remiyah (deceit), this one’s chasidus (piety) is worthless. [TEHILLIM 34:13; 39:1; 141:3]
27 Avodas Kodesh that is tehorah (pure) and tamimah (unblemished) before Elohim HaAv is this: to visit yetomim (orphans) and almanot (widows) in their tzoros and to be shomer against the defilement of the Olam Hazeh. [DEVARIM 14:29; IYOV 31:16,17,21; TEHILLIM 146:9; YESHAYAH 1:17,23]

Het echte geloof
1 Jakobus, een dienaar van God en van de Heer Jezus Christus,[a] doet de groeten aan de twaalf Joodse stammen die over de hele wereld verspreid zijn.
2 Wees blij, broeders en zusters, als je geloof door allerlei moeilijkheden op de proef wordt gesteld. 3 Want daardoor zul je leren geduld te hebben. 4 Zo zal je geloof sterker worden en zul je een volwassen geloof krijgen. Daardoor zul je altijd het goede doen. 5 En als je een keer niet weet wat je moet doen, mag je God om wijsheid vragen. God geeft die altijd, zonder boos te zijn dat je het zelf niet weet. 6 Maar je moet daar wel vol geloof om bidden, zonder te twijfelen.[b] Want als je twijfelt, lijk je op een golf van de zee die door de wind steeds een andere kant wordt opgejaagd. 7 Als je twijfelt, zul je niets van de Heer krijgen. 8 Je weet dan namelijk zelf niet wat je wil en bent onzeker bij alles wat je doet.
Arm en rijk
9 Als je niet veel geld hebt, mag je er blij over zijn dat je voor God toch belangrijk bent. 10 Maar als je rijk bent, moet je eraan denken dat God jouw geld niet zo belangrijk vindt. Want op een dag zul je er niet meer zijn. Net zoals een mooie bloem in het gras op een dag verdwenen is. 11 Want als de zon opkomt en heet wordt, verdroogt het gras en valt de bloem af. Er is niets moois meer aan. Zo zal ook een rijk mens met al zijn mooie plannen er op een dag niet meer zijn.
Groeien in het geloof
12 Als je in de verleiding komt om verkeerde keuzes te maken, is het heerlijk voor je als je toch voor het goede kiest en aan je geloof vasthoudt. Want dan zal de Heer je het eeuwige leven geven. Dat is de beloning die Hij heeft beloofd aan de mensen die van Hem houden. 13 Maar je mag nooit zeggen dat Gód jou op de proef stelt. Want God kan niet door het kwaad verleid worden om iets slechts te doen. En Hij doet Zelf ook niemand kwaad om iemands geloof op de proef te stellen. 14 Maar elke keer als je in de verleiding komt om het verkeerde te doen, komt dat doordat de verlangens van je oude 'ik'[c] aan je trekken. Ze proberen je mee te slepen. 15 Als je je daar niet tegen verzet, word je uiteindelijk inderdaad ongehoorzaam aan God. En als je niet langer gehoorzaam wil zijn aan God, brengt dat tenslotte de dood voort. 16 Houd jezelf niet voor de gek, lieve broeders en zusters!
17 Elk geschenk dat goed en volmaakt is, komt uit de hemel, van de Vader van het licht. Hij blijft altijd en eeuwig Dezelfde. Hij verandert nooit. Er zal nooit een spoortje duisternis in Hem te vinden zijn. 18 Wij zijn uit Hem geboren, doordat we geloofd hebben in de waarheid van zijn woord. Dat was ook Gods plan voor ons. Zo zijn wij, van alles wat Hij heeft gemaakt, de eersten die bij Hem mogen horen.[d]
19 Onthoud goed, lieve broeders en zusters, dat iedereen goed moet luisteren, maar niet te gauw iets moet zeggen. Word ook niet te snel boos. 20 Want boosheid staat je vriendschap met God in de weg. 21 Doe dus niets meer wat ook maar een béétje verkeerd of slecht is. Luister liever goed naar het woord van God dat in jullie hart is gezaaid en wortels heeft gekregen. Want door het woord van God worden jullie gered.
22 Lúister niet alleen naar het woord, maar dóe het ook. Als je alleen luistert en er niets mee doet, houd je jezelf voor de gek. 23 Stel dat je het woord wel hoort, maar er niets mee doet. 24 Dan kun je dat vergelijken met iemand die zichzelf in de spiegel bekijkt, maar ook onmiddellijk weer vergeet hoe hij er uitziet. 25 Luister dus goed naar de volmaakte wet, namelijk de wet die je vrijmaakt,[e] en doe ook wat die wet zegt. Vergeet niet wat je gehoord hebt, maar dóe het ook. Dan zal het goed met je gaan.
26 Als je jezelf heel gelovig vindt, maar intussen zegt en doet wat je maar wil, dan houd je jezelf voor de gek. Want dan is je geloof waardeloos. 27 Zuiver en eerlijk geloof houdt voor God de Vader in: zorgen voor de weeskinderen en de weduwen die het moeilijk hebben, en niet langer meedoen met de slechte dingen die de ongelovige mensen doen.

- Jakobus 1:1 'Christus' is niet Jezus' achternaam! Het woord 'Christus' is Grieks en betekent 'Gezalfde'. (Het Nieuwe Testament is in het Grieks geschreven). 'De gezalfde' is in de Joodse Boeken de man die speciaal door God met zijn Geest is gevuld ('gezalfd') om Israël te redden. In het Hebreeuws, de taal waarin het Oude Testament is geschreven, werd hij de 'Messias' genoemd, wat hetzelfde betekent.
- Jakobus 1:6 Eigenlijk staat hier: '...zonder verdeeld te zijn.' Dus zonder te twijfelen of je Gods antwoord ook wil gehoorzamen. Als je eigenlijk zijn oplossing niet wil maar liever doet wat je zelf wil, ben je verdeeld.
- Jakobus 1:14 Met het 'oude ik' wordt onze eigen menselijke aard bedoeld. Het wordt in de meeste vertalingen 'vlees' genoemd. In onszelf, als mens, is niets goeds. Maar doordat Gods Geest in ons is komen wonen, is dat veranderd. We zijn opnieuw geboren (lees Johannes 1:12). We zijn nieuwe mensen geworden (lees Romeinen 6:4). Onze oude menselijke aard bestaat nog wel, maar is geen slaaf meer van het kwaad. We hebben de mogelijkheid gekregen om 'nee' te zeggen tegen het kwaad (lees Romeinen 6:6).
- Jakobus 1:18 De gelovigen van die tijd behoorden bij de eersten die in Jezus waren gaan geloven. Ze waren als het ware de eerste kinderen van Gods gezin. Er zouden nog heel veel kinderen bij komen. De gelovigen worden hier vergeleken met het eerste deel van de oogst dat de Israëlieten aan de Heer moesten geven. Lees Leviticus 23:10.

Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds,(F) 3 because you know that the testing of your faith(G) produces perseverance.(H) 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature(I) and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,(J) who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.(K) 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt,(L) because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded(M) and unstable(N) in all they do.
9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.(O) 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.(P) 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat(Q) and withers(R) the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.(S) In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial(T) because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life(U) that the Lord has promised to those who love him.(V)
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own(W) evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;(X) and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.(Y)
16 Don’t be deceived,(Z) my dear brothers and sisters.(AA) 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above,(AB) coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,(AC) who does not change(AD) like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth(AE) through the word of truth,(AF) that we might be a kind of firstfruits(AG) of all he created.
Listening and Doing
19 My dear brothers and sisters,(AH) take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak(AI) and slow to become angry, 20 because human anger(AJ) does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21 Therefore, get rid of(AK) all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you,(AL) which can save you.
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.(AM) 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom,(AN) and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.(AO)
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues(AP) deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after(AQ) orphans and widows(AR) in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.(AS)

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
