Bánh Ma-na Và Chim Cút
16 Toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đi từ Ê-lim đến sa mạc Sin (sa mạc này nằm giữa Ê-lim và Si-nai) vào ngày mười lăm tháng hai, tính từ ngày họ ra khỏi Ai-cập. 2 Khi ở trong sa mạc toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên phiền trách Môi-se và A-rôn. 3 Họ nói với hai ông rằng: “Thà chúng tôi chết vì bàn tay của CHÚA trong xứ Ai-cập khi ngồi quanh nồi thịt và muốn chi có nấy, còn hơn là để hai ông đem vào sa mạc để chết đói cả đám!”
4 CHÚA phán dạy Môi-se rằng: “Ta sẽ cho bánh từ trời rơi xuống như mưa cho các ngươi. Mỗi ngày dân chúng sẽ đi lượm đủ bánh cho ngày đó. Ta sẽ dùng cách ấy thử chúng để xem chúng có vâng giữ các giáo huấn của Ta hay không. 5 Vào ngày thứ sáu chúng sẽ thu nhặt gấp đôi số lượng chúng thu nhặt trong những ngày khác.”
6 Vậy Môi-se và A-rôn nói với toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên: “Chiều nay, anh chị em sẽ nhận biết rằng chính CHÚA đã đem anh chị em ra khỏi Ai-cập. 7 Chiều nay anh chị em sẽ trông thấy vinh quang của CHÚA vì Ngài đã nghe tiếng than phiền của anh chị em rồi. Chúng tôi là ai mà anh chị em trách móc chúng tôi?” 8 Môi-se tiếp: “Anh chị em sẽ nhận biết CHÚA khi Ngài ban cho dư dật thịt vào buổi chiều và bánh vào buổi sáng, vì Ngài đã nghe tiếng anh chị em trách móc Ngài. Chúng tôi là ai? Không phải anh chị em trách móc chúng tôi đâu, nhưng chính anh chị em trách móc CHÚA đó.”
9 Sau đó Môi-se nói với A-rôn: “Anh truyền cho dân chúng đến trước mặt CHÚA vì Ngài đã nghe tiếng than phiền của họ.” 10 Đang khi A-rôn nói chuyện với toàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, họ ngó về hướng sa mạc và thấy vinh quang của CHÚA hiện ra trên đám mây.
11 CHÚA phán với Môi-se: 12 “Ta đã nghe tiếng than phiền của dân Y-sơ-ra-ên. Con nói với chúng: ‘đến chiều các ngươi sẽ ăn thịt và đến sáng mai sẽ có bánh ăn dư dật,’ rồi chúng nó sẽ nhận biết Ta là CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng nó.” 13 Chiều đó, chim cút bay đến phủ cả trại quân và qua sáng mai có một lớp sương xung quanh trại quân. 14 Lớp sương tan đi và để lại trên cát sa mạc những hạt nhỏ mịn như sương muối. 15 Khi thấy các hạt nhỏ này, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên hỏi nhau: “Cái gì vậy?” vì họ không biết đó là vật gì. Môi-se đáp: “Đó là bánh CHÚA ban cho anh chị em ăn. 16 Và đây là mạng lệnh của Ngài: ‘Mỗi người đi nhặt đủ cho nhu cầu của mình. Nhặt cho mỗi người một ô-me[a] trong lều của mình.’ ”
17 Người Y-sơ-ra-ên làm theo lời ấy, người nhặt nhiều kẻ nhặt ít. 18 Nhưng khi đong, người nhặt nhiều cũng chẳng thừa, kẻ nhặt ít cũng không thiếu. Mỗi người thu lượm tùy theo nhu cầu của mình. 19 Môi-se có căn dặn họ đừng để bánh thừa đến sáng mai. 20 Tuy nhiên có một số người không để ý đến lời Môi-se và để bánh thừa đến sáng hôm sau, bánh hóa sâu và có mùi hôi hám. Vì vậy Môi-se giận họ.
21 Cứ đến sáng, mỗi người đi thu nhặt đủ số cần dùng và khi mặt trời đã nóng, bánh tan đi hết. 22 Vào ngày thứ sáu, họ thu nhặt gấp đôi, tức là mỗi người hai ô-me. Khi thấy vậy các người lãnh đạo trong hội chúng đến báo cáo với Môi-se. 23 Nhưng Môi-se nói rằng: “Đây là điều CHÚA truyền dạy: ‘ngày mai là ngày nghỉ, là ngày Sa-bát thánh cho CHÚA. Hãy nấu nướng món gì các ngươi muốn nấu nướng, luộc món gì các ngươi muốn luộc, rồi để dành một phần cho ngày hôm sau.’ ”
24 Họ làm theo lời Môi-se và để thức ăn đến sáng hôm sau; thức ăn không hôi hám cũng không hóa sâu. 25 Khi ấy Môi-se nói với họ: “Anh chị em ăn các món đó hôm nay đi, vì hôm nay là ngày Sa-bát cho CHÚA. Hôm nay anh chị em sẽ không tìm thấy bánh trên mặt đất đâu. 26 Anh chị em đi thu lượm trong sáu ngày nhưng qua ngày thứ bảy là ngày Sa-bát, sẽ không có bánh.”
27 Tuy nhiên, một số người đi ra kiếm bánh vào ngày Sa-bát nhưng không tìm thấy gì cả. 28 CHÚA phán hỏi Môi-se: “Các ngươi cứ từ chối không chịu vâng theo mạng lệnh và giáo huấn của Ta cho đến khi nào? 29 Nên nhớ rằng CHÚA đã cho các ngươi ngày Sa-bát; vì đó mà vào ngày thứ sáu Ngài cho các ngươi đủ bánh cho hai ngày. Tất cả mọi người phải nghỉ ngơi trong ngày thứ bảy; không ai được phép đi ra ngoài.” 30 Như vậy dân chúng nghỉ ngơi vào ngày thứ bảy.
31 Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên gọi bánh đó là ma-na,[b] nó giống hạt ngò, có vị như bánh mật ong. 32 Môi-se nói: “Đây là mạng lệnh CHÚA truyền dạy: ‘Lấy một ô-me ma-na và giữ lại cho các thế hệ tương lai, để chúng được thấy thứ bánh Ta ban cho các ngươi ăn trong sa mạc khi Ta đem các ngươi ra khỏi xứ Ai-cập.’ ” 33 Vậy Môi-se nói với A-rôn: “Anh lấy một cái bình, bỏ vào đấy một ô-me ma-na, rồi đem bình để trước mặt CHÚA để giữ lại cho các thế hệ tương lai.” 34 Đúng theo mạng lệnh CHÚA đã truyền cho Môi-se, A-rôn đem ma-na đặt trước Rương Giao Ước để lưu truyền. 35 Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ăn ma-na trong bốn mươi năm, cho đến khi họ vào định cư, tức là họ ăn ma-na cho tới biên giới xứ Ca-na-an. 36 Một ô-me bằng một phần mười ê-pha.[c]

16 And they (A)journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and (B)Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they departed from the land of Egypt. 2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel (C)complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the children of Israel said to them, (D)“Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, (E)when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain (F)bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather [a]a certain quota every day, that I may (G)test them, whether they will (H)walk in My law or not. 5 And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and (I)it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”
6 Then Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, (J)“At evening you shall know that the Lord has brought you out of the land of Egypt. 7 And in the morning you shall see (K)the glory of the Lord; for He (L)hears your complaints against the Lord. But (M)what are we, that you complain against us?” 8 Also Moses said, “This shall be seen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to the full; for the Lord hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but (N)against the Lord.”
9 Then Moses spoke to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, (O)‘Come near before the Lord, for He has heard your complaints.’ ” 10 Now it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord (P)appeared in the cloud.
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 (Q)“I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, (R)‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and (S)in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”
13 So it was that (T)quail came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning (U)the dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was (V)a small round (W)substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was.
And Moses said to them, (X)“This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it (Y)according to each one’s need, one (Z)omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.’ ”
17 Then the children of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less. 18 So when they measured it by omers, (AA)he who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack. Every man had gathered according to each one’s need. 19 And Moses said, “Let no one (AB)leave any of it till morning.” 20 Notwithstanding they did not [b]heed Moses. But some of them left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. 21 So they gathered it every morning, every man according to his need. And when the sun became hot, it melted.
22 And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. 23 Then he said to them, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Tomorrow is (AC)a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’ ” 24 So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not (AD)stink, nor were there any worms in it. 25 Then Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. 26 (AE)Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none.”
27 Now it happened that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, but they found none. 28 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long (AF)do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws? 29 See! For the Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 And the house of Israel called its name [c]Manna. And (AG)it was like white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
32 Then Moses said, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Fill an omer with it, to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ” 33 And Moses said to Aaron, (AH)“Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for your generations.” 34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up (AI)before the Testimony, to be kept. 35 And the children of Israel (AJ)ate manna (AK)forty years, (AL)until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan. 36 Now an omer is one-tenth of an ephah.

For (K)what are we, that you grumble against us?” 8 And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—(L)what are we? Your grumbling is not (M)against us but against the Lord.”
9 Then Moses (N)said to Aaron, “Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, (O)‘Come near before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’” 10 And as soon as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the (P)glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. 11 And the Lord said to Moses, 12 “I (Q)have heard the grumbling of the people of Israel. Say to them, ‘At (R)twilight you shall eat meat, and (S)in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’”

16 De lämnade Elim och fortsatte sin vandring in i öknen Sin mellan Elim och Sinai och de kom dit den femtonde dagen i andra månaden efter att de lämnat Egypten. 2 Där började hela menigheten än en gång klaga på Mose och Aron. 3 De sa: ”Tänk om Herren hade låtit oss dö i Egypten, där vi satt runt våra köttgrytor och hade tillräckligt med mat att äta! Nu har ni fört oss ut i öknen, där vi alla som är samlade här kommer att dö av svält.”
4 Då sa Herren till Mose: ”Jag ska låta mat regna ner från himlen till er. Sedan kan folket gå ut varje dag och samla in så mycket som de behöver. Jag ska pröva dem för att se om de följer mina instruktioner eller inte. 5 När de på den sjätte dagen lagar vad de samlat in ska det vara dubbelt så mycket som de övriga dagarna.”
6 Mose och Aron meddelade israeliterna: ”I kväll ska ni inse att det var Herren som förde er ut ur Egypten, 7 och i morgon ska ni få se Herrens härlighet, för han har hört hur ni klagar på honom. Det är honom ni klagar på, för vilka är vi att ni skulle klaga på oss?” 8 Mose sa vidare: ”Herren ska ge er kött att äta i kväll, och imorgon ska ni få bröd. Han har hört hur ni knotar mot honom. Vi är ingenting, och det är inte mot oss ni knotar utan mot Herren.”
9 Sedan sa Mose till Aron: ”Säg till hela Israels folk att komma fram inför Herren, eftersom han har hört deras klagan.” 10 Aron talade sedan till israeliternas menighet och när de vände sig mot öknen, uppenbarade sig Herrens härlighet i molnet.
11 Herren talade till Mose: 12 ”Jag har hört israeliternas klagan. Säg till dem: ’I skymningen ikväll ska ni få kött och imorgon ska ni mättas med bröd och då ska ni förstå att jag är Herren, er Gud.’ ”
13 Den kvällen kom en stor mängd vaktlar och täckte hela lägret och på morgonen låg det dagg runt omkring lägerplatsen. 14 När daggen lite senare försvann, lämnade den kvar något tunt, frasigt[a], som liknade rimfrost på marken. 15 När israeliterna såg detta, frågade de varandra: ”Vad är det här?” De visste inte vad det var.
Mose svarade: ”Det är den mat som Herren har gett er att äta. 16 Herren har befallt att var och en ska samla in så mycket han behöver för sitt hushåll, ett omermått[b] per person.”
17 Israeliterna gjorde så. Några samlade mer, andra samlade mindre. 18 Och när de mätte upp vad de samlat i sina mått, hade de som samlat mycket inte för mycket, och de som hade samlat litet hade inte för lite. Alla hade samlat så mycket som de behövde.
19 Och Mose sa till folket: ”Lämna ingenting kvar till i morgon!” 20 Men det fanns sådana som inte ville lyssna till Mose utan lämnade lite kvar till morgonen därpå. Men då var det fullt av mask och luktade illa och Mose blev arg på dem. 21 Så samlade de mat varje morgon, var och en efter sitt behov, och när solen steg allt högre smälte det bort. 22 På sjätte dagen samlade de dubbelt så mycket som vanligt, två omermått till var och en. Ledarna bland folket gick då till Mose och rapporterade detta.
23 Då talade han om för dem: ”Det är precis vad Herren har sagt. ’Morgondagen är en vilodag, en Herrens heliga sabbat[c]. Baka och koka så mycket ni vill idag, och spara det som blir över till imorgon.’ ”
24 De sparade mat till nästa morgon, som Mose hade sagt, och då luktade den inte illa och det fanns ingen mask i den. 25 Och Mose sa: ”Detta är er mat för idag, för detta är Herrens sabbat, och det kommer inte att finnas någon mat alls ute på marken. 26 Samla alltså mat under sex dagar. Den sjunde dagen är sabbat, och då kommer det inte att finnas någon mat där ute.”
27 Några gick ändå ut på sabbaten för att samla mat men de fann ingen. 28 Då sa Herren till Mose: ”Hur länge tänker ni vägra att lyda mina bud och befallningar? 29 Se, Herren har gett er sabbaten. Därför ger han er på sjätte dagen mat för två dagar. Stanna nu kvar hemma i stillhet och gå inte ut på den sjunde dagen.” 30 Efter det höll folket sabbatsvila den sjunde dagen.
31 Israeliterna kallade maten manna[d]. Mannat var vitt som korianderfrö och smakade som bröd med honung.
32 Mose sa: ”Herren har befallt: ’Ta och bevara en omer manna, så att kommande generationer får se det bröd som jag försåg er med i öknen när jag förde er ut ur Egypten.’ ”
33 Därför sa han till Aron att skaffa ett kärl och hälla upp ett omermått manna i det och placera det inför Herren för att förvaras åt kommande generationer. 34 Aron gjorde som Herren hade befallt Mose. Han ställde kärlet inför förbundstecknet[e] för att förvaras där.
35 Under fyrtio år åt israeliterna manna, ända tills de kom in i Kanaans land, som var bebott; de åt manna tills de kom till gränsen till Kanaan. 36 En omer är en tiondels efa.[f]

16 The whole Israelite community set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin,(A) which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Egypt.(B) 2 In the desert the whole community grumbled(C) against Moses and Aaron. 3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt!(D) There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food(E) we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”(F)
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven(G) for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test(H) them and see whether they will follow my instructions. 5 On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice(I) as much as they gather on the other days.”
6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “In the evening you will know that it was the Lord who brought you out of Egypt,(J) 7 and in the morning you will see the glory(K) of the Lord, because he has heard your grumbling(L) against him. Who are we, that you should grumble against us?”(M) 8 Moses also said, “You will know that it was the Lord when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling(N) against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord.”(O)
9 Then Moses told Aaron, “Say to the entire Israelite community, ‘Come before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’”
10 While Aaron was speaking to the whole Israelite community, they looked toward the desert, and there was the glory(P) of the Lord appearing in the cloud.(Q)
11 The Lord said to Moses, 12 “I have heard the grumbling(R) of the Israelites. Tell them, ‘At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.’”(S)
13 That evening quail(T) came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew(U) around the camp. 14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost(V) on the ground appeared on the desert floor. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” For they did not know(W) what it was.
Moses said to them, “It is the bread(X) the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer[a](Y) for each person you have in your tent.’”
17 The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little. 18 And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.(Z) Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.
19 Then Moses said to them, “No one is to keep any of it until morning.”(AA)
20 However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell.(AB) So Moses was angry(AC) with them.
21 Each morning everyone gathered as much as they needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. 22 On the sixth day, they gathered twice(AD) as much—two omers[b] for each person—and the leaders of the community(AE) came and reported this to Moses. 23 He said to them, “This is what the Lord commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of sabbath rest, a holy sabbath(AF) to the Lord. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’”
24 So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. 25 “Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a sabbath to the Lord. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 26 Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath,(AG) there will not be any.”
27 Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. 28 Then the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you[c] refuse to keep my commands(AH) and my instructions? 29 Bear in mind that the Lord has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where they are on the seventh day; no one is to go out.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 The people of Israel called the bread manna.[d](AI) It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey. 32 Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Take an omer of manna and keep it for the generations to come, so they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the wilderness when I brought you out of Egypt.’”
33 So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar and put an omer of manna(AJ) in it. Then place it before the Lord to be kept for the generations to come.”
34 As the Lord commanded Moses, Aaron put the manna with the tablets of the covenant law,(AK) so that it might be preserved. 35 The Israelites ate manna(AL) forty years,(AM) until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan.(AN)
