Guds två vittnen
11 Nu gav man mig en måttstock som var som en stav och sa till mig: ”Gå och mät Guds tempel och altaret, och räkna dem som tillber där.[a] 2 Men templets yttre gård ska du utelämna och inte mäta, för den har överlämnats till hedningarna. De ska trampa den heliga staden i fyrtiotvå månader[b]. 3 Under dessa 1 260 dagar ska jag ge mina två vittnen i uppdrag att profetera, klädda i sorgdräkt.”
4 Dessa är de två olivträd och de två lampställen som står inför jordens Herre.[c] 5 Om någon försöker skada dem, ska eld komma ut från deras munnar och förtära deras fiender. Var och en som vill skada dem ska dödas på det sättet. 6 De har makt att stänga himlen, så att inget regn faller under den tid som de profeterar. Och de har makt att förvandla vattnen till blod och slå jorden med alla slags plågor, så ofta de vill.
7 När de har slutfört sitt uppdrag ska odjuret[d] som stiger upp från avgrunden attackera och besegra och döda dem. 8 Deras lik ska sedan ligga på gatan i den stora stad som andligt talat kallas Sodom och Egypten, och där deras Herre också blev korsfäst. 9 Människor från alla länder och stammar och språk och folk ska under tre och en halv dag se deras kroppar ligga där, och de ska inte tillåta att de begravs. 10 Men jordens invånare ska glädja sig över dem. De ska jubla och skicka presenter till varandra, eftersom dessa båda profeter plågat jordens invånare så mycket.
11 Efter tre och en halv dag kom en livsande från Gud in i dem, och de ställde sig upp, och alla som såg dem blev skräckslagna. 12 Sedan hörde de en stark röst från himlen säga till dem: ”Kom hit upp!” De for upp till himlen i ett moln, mitt framför ögonen på sina fiender. 13 I samma stund blev det en fruktansvärd jordbävning, som fick en tiondel av staden att störta samman. 7 000 människor dödades i jordbävningen, och de som överlevde darrade av skräck och hyllade himlens Gud.
14 Det andra veropet är över, men det tredje är snart på väg.
Den sjunde ängeln blåser i sin trumpet
15 Den sjunde ängeln blåste i sin trumpet och starka röster hördes från himlen. De sa:
”Kungamakten över världen
tillhör nu vår Herre och hans Smorde,
och han ska regera i all evighet.”
16 De tjugofyra himmelska ledarna, som satt på sina troner inför Gud, föll ner på sina ansikten och tillbad Gud 17 och sa:
”Vi tackar dig, Herre Gud, Allsmäktig,
du som är och som var,
för att du har tagit makten,
din stora makt, och ska regera.
18 Folken rasade i vrede,
men nu har din vrede kommit.
Det är dags för de döda att dömas.
Du ska belöna dina tjänare profeterna
och de heliga och dem som fruktar ditt namn,
både små och stora.
Och du ska förgöra dem som förgör jorden.”
19 Sedan öppnades Guds tempel i himlen, och där inne kunde man se förbundsarken[e]. Det blixtrade och mullrade av åska, och det blev jordbävning och stora hagel föll.

- 11:1 Johannes fick i uppdrag att mäta och räkna det som skulle skyddas av Gud.
- 11:2 Fyrtiotvå månader, eller 1 260 dagar, är detsamma som 3,5 år, vilket är hälften av 7 (fullkomlighetens tal). Det kan alltså ses som ett symboliskt tal för en begränsad tid, ofta tolkad som tiden för Jesus verksamhet. Samma symbolik återkommer i v. 9 och 11.

Les deux témoins[a]
11 Je reçus un roseau, une sorte de baguette d’arpenteur, avec cet ordre :
Debout, prends les mesures du temple de Dieu, de l’autel et de ceux qui se prosternent là dans l’adoration[b]. 2 Mais laisse de côté le parvis extérieur du Temple, ne le mesure donc pas, car il a été abandonné aux peuples étrangers. Ils fouleront aux pieds la ville sainte pendant quarante-deux mois. 3 Je confierai à mes deux témoins la mission de prophétiser, habillés de vêtements de deuil, pendant mille deux cent soixante jours. 4 Ces deux témoins sont les deux oliviers et les deux chandeliers qui se tiennent devant le Seigneur de la Terre. 5 Si quelqu’un veut leur faire du mal, un feu jaillit de leur bouche et consume leurs ennemis. Oui, si quelqu’un veut leur faire du mal, c’est ainsi qu’il lui faudra mourir[c].
6 Ces deux témoins ont le pouvoir de fermer le ciel pour empêcher la pluie de tomber durant tout le temps où ils prophétiseront. Ils ont aussi le pouvoir de changer les eaux en sang et de frapper la terre de toutes sortes de plaies, aussi souvent qu’ils le voudront[d].
7 Mais lorsqu’ils auront achevé de rendre leur témoignage, la bête qui monte de l’abîme combattra contre eux, elle les vaincra et les tuera. 8 Leurs cadavres resteront exposés sur la place de la grande ville qui s’appelle symboliquement Sodome et Egypte[e], c’est la ville où leur Seigneur a été crucifié. 9 Des gens de tout peuple, de toute tribu, de toute langue et de toute nation regarderont leurs cadavres pendant trois jours et demi et s’opposeront à leur ensevelissement. 10 Tous les habitants de la terre seront dans la joie à cause de leur mort, ils s’en réjouiront et échangeront des cadeaux, car ces deux prophètes leur auront causé bien des tourments.
11 Mais au bout de ces trois jours et demi, un esprit de vie venu de Dieu entra en eux, et ils se dressèrent sur leurs pieds. La terreur s’empara de tous les assistants. 12 Une voix puissante venant du ciel cria aux deux témoins : « Montez ici ! » ; ils montèrent au ciel dans la nuée sous les regards de leurs ennemis. 13 Au même instant se produisit un grand tremblement de terre qui fit s’effondrer la dixième partie de la ville et, dans ce tremblement de terre, sept mille personnes périrent. Les survivants furent saisis d’effroi, et rendirent hommage au Dieu du ciel.
14 Le deuxième malheur est passé ; voici, le troisième malheur vient rapidement.
La septième trompette : la venue du royaume de Christ
15 Le septième ange sonna de la trompette, et des voix retentirent dans le ciel : Le royaume du monde a passé maintenant aux mains de notre Seigneur et de son Messie. Il régnera éternellement.
16 Et les vingt-quatre représentants du peuple de Dieu qui siègent devant Dieu sur leurs trônes se prosternèrent la face contre terre, et adorèrent Dieu 17 en disant :
Seigneur Dieu tout-puissant
qui es et qui étais,
nous te disons
notre reconnaissance
car tu as mis en œuvre
ton immense puissance
pour établir ton règne.
18 Les autres peuples s’étaient soulevés
dans leur fureur,
mais ta colère est arrivée.
L’heure est venue
où tous les morts seront jugés,
et où tes serviteurs les prophètes,
et les membres du peuple saint,
eux qui te craignent,
petits et grands,
seront récompensés.
C’est aussi le moment
où ceux qui détruisent la terre
seront détruits.
Les sept signes ou visions
19 Alors s’ouvrit le temple de Dieu qui est dans le ciel, et le coffre de son alliance y apparut. Il y eut des éclairs, des voix, des coups de tonnerre, un tremblement de terre et une forte grêle.

11 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

The Two Witnesses
11 I was given a reed like a measuring rod(A) and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers. 2 But exclude the outer court;(B) do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.(C) They will trample on the holy city(D) for 42 months.(E) 3 And I will appoint my two witnesses,(F) and they will prophesy for 1,260 days,(G) clothed in sackcloth.”(H) 4 They are “the two olive trees”(I) and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”[a](J) 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies.(K) This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die.(L) 6 They have power to shut up the heavens(M) so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying;(N) and they have power to turn the waters into blood(O) and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.
7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast(P) that comes up from the Abyss(Q) will attack them,(R) and overpower and kill them. 8 Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city(S)—which is figuratively called Sodom(T) and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified.(U) 9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation(V) will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial.(W) 10 The inhabitants of the earth(X) will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts,(Y) because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.
11 But after the three and a half days(Z) the breath[b] of life from God entered them,(AA) and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.”(AB) And they went up to heaven in a cloud,(AC) while their enemies looked on.
13 At that very hour there was a severe earthquake(AD) and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory(AE) to the God of heaven.(AF)
14 The second woe has passed; the third woe is coming soon.(AG)
The Seventh Trumpet
15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet,(AH) and there were loud voices(AI) in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,(AJ)
and he will reign for ever and ever.”(AK)
16 And the twenty-four elders,(AL) who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces(AM) and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give thanks(AN) to you, Lord God Almighty,(AO)
the One who is and who was,(AP)
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.(AQ)
18 The nations were angry,(AR)
and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,(AS)
and for rewarding your servants the prophets(AT)
and your people who revere your name,
both great and small(AU)—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”
19 Then God’s temple(AV) in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant.(AW) And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder,(AX) an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.(AY)
