11 Lè Jwif yo wè yo pa t ka gen rezon sou Etyèn, yo peye kèk moun anba anba pou y al fè fo temwanyaj kont Etyèn, pou y al di: “Nou tande l ap pale Moyiz ak Bondye mal!” 12 Konsa, Jwif yo resi monte tèt ni pèp la, ni chèf fanmi yo, ni doktè lalwa kont Etyèn. Yo vin fache kont li. Y al kote Etyèn te ye a, yo poze lapat sou li epi yo mennen l vin devan Gran Konsèy la.

13 Yo mennen fo temwen tou ki vin di: “Nonm sa a pa sispann pale Tanp sa ki apa pou Bondye a ak lalwa nou an mal. 14 Nou tande l ap di Jezi, nonm Nazarèt la, gen pou l kraze Tanp sa a epi l ap chanje tout koutim Moyiz te kite pou nou yo.” 15 Tout manm Gran Konsèy la te gen je yo fikse sou Etyèn. Seven Chosen to Serve

Now in these days (A)when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists[a] arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in (B)the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. (C)Therefore, brothers,[b] pick out from among you seven men (D)of good repute, (E)full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But (F)we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, (G)a man full of faith and (H)of the Holy Spirit, and (I)Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, (J)a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and (K)they prayed and (L)laid their hands on them.

And (M)the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests (N)became obedient to (O)the faith.

Stephen Is Seized

And Stephen, full of grace and (P)power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. 10 But (Q)they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11 Then (R)they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” 12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, 13 and they (S)set up false (T)witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against (U)this holy place and the law, 14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth (V)will destroy this place and will (W)change (X)the customs that Moses delivered to us.” 15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face (Y)was like the face of an angel.

Appointed for Service

Now in those days, when the disciples were multiplying, grumbling arose[a] among the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily support. So the Twelve called together the whole group of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. So, brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the service of the Word.”

The statement pleased the whole group; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Ruach ha-Kodesh, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch. They placed these men before the emissaries; and after praying, they laid hands on them.[b]

The word of God kept on spreading, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem greatly multiplied; even a great number of the kohanim were becoming obedient to the faith.

Stephen’s Testimony and Martyrdom

Now Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen—both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and Asia[c]—stood up and began arguing with Stephen. 10 But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Ruach by whom he was speaking.

11 Then they secretly instigated men into saying, “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and against God!” 12 They also incited the people, the elders, and the Torah scholars; and they rushed at Stephen, seized him, and led him away to the Sanhedrin. 13 They set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking words against this holy place and the Torah. 14 For we have heard him saying that this Yeshua ha-Natzrati will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.” 15 Watching him intently, everyone who was sitting in the Sanhedrin saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

Ang Pagpili ng Pitong Lalaki

Itoʼy sa dahilang hindi nabibigyan ng pang-araw-araw na rasyon ang kanilang mga biyuda. Kaya ipinatawag ng 12 apostol ang lahat ng tagasunod ni Jesus, at sinabihan sila, “Hindi mabuting pabayaan namin ang pangangaral ng salita ng Dios para mag-asikaso lang ng materyal na mga tulong. Kaya mga kapatid, pumili kayo sa mga kasamahan ninyo ng pitong lalaking may malinis na pangalan, marunong, at puspos ng Banal na Espiritu. Sila ang pamamahalain natin sa mga materyal na tulong. At ilalaan naman namin ang aming oras sa pananalangin at sa pangangaral ng salita ng Dios.” Sumang-ayon ang lahat ng mga mananampalataya sa sinabi ng mga apostol. Kaya pinili nila si Esteban na may matibay na pananampalataya at puspos ng Banal na Espiritu. Pinili rin nila sina Felipe, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, at Nicolas na taga-Antioc. Si Nicolas ay hindi Judio pero umanib sa relihiyon ng mga Judio. Dinala nila ang mga napiling ito sa mga apostol. At ipinanalangin sila ng mga apostol at pinatungan ng kamay bilang pagtatalaga sa tungkulin.

Kaya patuloy na kumalat ang salita ng Dios. Marami pang mga taga-Jerusalem ang naging tagasunod ni Jesus, at marami ring pari ang sumampalataya sa kanya.

Ang Pagdakip kay Esteban

Pinagkalooban ng Dios si Esteban ng pambihirang kapangyarihan. Kaya maraming himala at mga kamangha-manghang ginawa niya ang nasaksihan ng mga tao. Pero may mga taong kumalaban sa kanya. Ito ay ang mga Judiong mula sa Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, at Asia. Mga miyembro sila ng sambahan ng mga Judio na tinatawag na Sambahan ng mga Pinalaya sa Pagkaalipin. Nakikipagtalo sila kay Esteban, 10 pero hindi nila kayang talunin si Esteban dahil binigyan siya ng karunungan ng Banal na Espiritu. 11 Kaya lihim nilang sinulsulan[a] ang ilang tao na magsabi, “Narinig namin si Esteban na nagsalita ng masama laban kay Moises at sa Dios.” 12 Sa ganitong paraan, naudyukan nilang magalit ang mga tao, ang mga pinuno ng mga Judio, at ang mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. Dinakip nila si Esteban at dinala sa korte ng mga Judio. 13 Mayroon din silang pinapasok na ilang tao para tumestigo ng kasinungalingan laban kay Esteban. Sinabi nila, “Ang taong ito ay palaging nagsasalita ng laban sa ating sagradong templo at sa Kautusan ni Moises. 14 Narinig naming sinabi niya na ang ating templo ay gigibain ni Jesus na taga-Nazaret at papalitan niya ang mga kaugaliang iniwan sa atin ni Moises!” 15 Ang lahat ng miyembro ng Korte ay tumitig kay Esteban, at nakita nila ang kanyang mukha na nagliwanag na parang mukha ng anghel.

The Choosing of the Seven

In those days when the number of disciples was increasing,(A) the Hellenistic Jews[a](B) among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows(C) were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.(D) So the Twelve gathered all the disciples(E) together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God(F) in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters,(G) choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit(H) and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them(I) and will give our attention to prayer(J) and the ministry of the word.”

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen,(K) a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit;(L) also Philip,(M) Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed(N) and laid their hands on them.(O)

So the word of God spread.(P) The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly,(Q) and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Stephen Seized

Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs(R) among the people. Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene(S) and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia(T) and Asia(U)—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.(V)

11 Then they secretly(W) persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”(X)

12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.(Y) 13 They produced false witnesses,(Z) who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place(AA) and against the law. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place(AB) and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”(AC)

15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin(AD) looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
