^5 (A)He saved us, ^(B)not on the basis of deeds which we did in righteousness, but ^(C)in accordance with His mercy, by the ^(D)washing of regeneration and ^(E)renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Christ Is Our Advocate

2 ^(A)My little children, I am ^(B)writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, ^(C)we have an ^[a](D)Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; ² and He Himself is ^(E)the ^[b]propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also ^(F)for the sins of the whole world.

²⁴ but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, to us ^(A)who believe in Him who ^(B)raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, ²⁵ He who was ^(C)delivered over because of our wrongdoings, and was ^(D)raised because of our justification.

²⁸ and I give them ^(A)eternal life, and they will never perish; and ^(B)no one will snatch them out of My hand. ^29 [a]My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. ^30 (C)I and the Father are ^[b]one.”

²⁹ for the gifts and the ^(A)calling of God ^(B)are irrevocable.
