⁴ But when ^(A)the kindness and the love of ^(B)God our Savior toward man appeared,

⁴ But God, ^(A)who is rich in mercy, because of His ^(B)great love with which He loved us, ^5 (C)even when we were dead in trespasses, ^(D)made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), ⁶ and raised us up together, and made us sit together ^(E)in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in ^(F)His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ^8 (G)For by grace you have been saved ^(H)through faith, and that not of yourselves; ^(I)it is the gift of God, ⁹ not of ^(J)works, lest anyone should ^(K)boast. ¹⁰ For we are ^(L)His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

¹⁰ not ^[a]pilfering, but showing all good ^[b]fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

Trained by Saving Grace

¹¹ For ^(A)the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

¹⁰ For to this end ^[a]we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, ^(A)who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

²⁰ Moreover ^(A)the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace ^(B)abounded much more, ²¹ so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²⁶ He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

⁴ Or do you despise ^(A)the riches of His goodness, ^(B)forbearance, and ^(C)longsuffering, ^(D)not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

¹⁰ but ^(A)has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

³ but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
