Rebuking Those Who Fail to Do Good
10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk(A) and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.(B) 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households(C) by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets(D) has said it: “Cretans(E) are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”[a]

10 For there are also many rebellious people, full of empty talk and deception, especially those from Judaism.[a] 11 It is necessary to silence them; they overthrow whole households by teaching what they shouldn’t in order to get money dishonestly. 12 One of their very own prophets said,
Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.[b]
