Titus 1:7-3:1

⁷ For an overseer,^{[a] (A)}as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not ^(B)be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent ^(C)or greedy for gain, ⁸ but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, ^(D)and disciplined. ⁹ He must ^(E)hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in ^(F)sound^[b] doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

¹⁰ For there are many who are insubordinate, ^(G)empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of ^(H)the circumcision party.^{[c] 11} They must be silenced, since ^(I)they are upsetting whole families by teaching ^(J)for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. ^12 (K)One of the Cretans,^[d] a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”^{[e] 13} This testimony is true. Therefore ^(L)rebuke them ^(M)sharply, that they ^(N)may be sound in the faith, ^14 (O)not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and ^(P)the commands of people ^(Q)who turn away from the truth. ^15 (R)To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and ^(S)unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both ^(T)their minds and their consciences are defiled. ^16 (U)They profess to know God, but they ^(V)deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, ^(W)unfit for any good work.

Teach Sound Doctrine

2 But as for you, teach what accords with ^(X)sound^[f] doctrine. ² Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, ^(Y)sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. ^3 (Z)Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, ^(AA)not slanderers ^(AB)or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, ⁴ and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be self-controlled, ^(AC)pure, ^(AD)working at home, kind, and ^(AE)submissive to their own husbands, ^(AF)that the word of God may not be reviled. ⁶ Likewise, urge ^(AG)the younger men to be self-controlled. ⁷ Show yourself in all respects to be ^(AH)a model of good works, and in your teaching ^(AI)show integrity, ^(AJ)dignity, ⁸ and ^(AK)sound speech that cannot be condemned, ^(AL)so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. ^9 (AM)Bondservants^[g] are to be submissive to their own masters ^(AN)in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, ¹⁰ not pilfering, ^(AO)but showing all good faith, ^(AP)so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

¹¹ For ^(AQ)the grace of God ^(AR)has appeared, bringing salvation ^(AS)for all people, ¹² training us to renounce ungodliness and ^(AT)worldly passions, and ^(AU)to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in ^(AV)the present age, ^13 (AW)waiting for our blessed ^(AX)hope, the ^(AY)appearing of the glory of our great ^(AZ)God and Savior Jesus Christ, ^14 (BA)who gave himself for us to ^(BB)redeem us from all lawlessness and ^(BC)to purify for himself ^(BD)a people for his own possession who are ^(BE)zealous for good works.

¹⁵ Declare these things; exhort and ^(BF)rebuke with all authority. ^(BG)Let no one disregard you.
