12 training us to renounce ungodliness and (A)worldly passions, and (B)to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in (C)the present age, 13 (D)waiting for our blessed (E)hope, the (F)appearing of the glory of our great (G)God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 (H)who gave himself for us to (I)redeem us from all lawlessness and (J)to purify for himself (K)a people for his own possession who are (L)zealous for good works.

15 Declare these things; exhort and (M)rebuke with all authority. (N)Let no one disregard you.

Be Ready for Every Good Work

Remind them (O)to be submissive to rulers and authorities, (P)to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, (Q)to speak evil of no one, (R)to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and (S)to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For (T)we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another.

12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,(A) and to live self-controlled,(B) upright and godly lives(C) in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing(D) of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,(E) 14 who gave himself for us(F) to redeem us from all wickedness(G) and to purify(H) for himself a people that are his very own,(I) eager to do what is good.(J)

15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

Saved in Order to Do Good

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities,(K) to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,(L) to slander no one,(M) to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.

At one time(N) we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
