13 This saying is true. So give a strong warning to people who refuse to obey God. Then they will understand the faith correctly. 14 Then they will pay no attention to Jewish stories that aren’t true. They won’t listen to the mere human commands of people who turn away from the truth. 15 To people who are pure, all things are pure. But to those who have twisted minds and don’t believe, nothing is pure. In fact, their minds and their sense of what is right and wrong are twisted. 16 They claim to know God. But their actions show they don’t know him. They are hated by God. They refuse to obey him. They aren’t fit to do anything good.

Doing Good Because of the Good News

But what you teach must agree with true teaching.

13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke(A) them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith(B) 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths(C) or to the merely human commands(D) of those who reject the truth.(E) 15 To the pure, all things are pure,(F) but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.(G) In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.(H) 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.(I) They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.(J)

You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.(K)
