L’attività pastorale di colui che amministra il vangelo
2 (A)Ma tu esponi le cose che sono conformi alla sana dottrina: 2 i vecchi siano sobri, dignitosi, assennati, sani nella fede, nell’amore, nella pazienza; 3 anche le donne anziane abbiano un comportamento conforme a santità, non siano maldicenti né dedite a molto vino, siano maestre del bene, 4 per incoraggiare le giovani ad amare i mariti, ad amare i figli, 5 a essere sagge, caste, diligenti nei lavori domestici, buone, sottomesse ai loro mariti, perché la parola di Dio non sia disprezzata.
6 Esorta ugualmente i giovani a essere saggi, 7 presentando te stesso in ogni cosa come esempio di opere buone; mostrando nell’insegnamento integrità, dignità, [incorruttibilità,] 8 linguaggio sano, irreprensibile, perché l’avversario resti confuso, non avendo nulla di male da dire contro di noi[a].
9 Esorta i servi a essere sottomessi ai loro padroni, a compiacerli in ogni cosa, a non contraddirli, 10 a non derubarli, ma a mostrare sempre lealtà perfetta, per onorare in ogni cosa la dottrina di Dio, nostro Salvatore.
Manifestazione della grazia di Dio
11 (B)Infatti la grazia di Dio, salvifica per tutti gli uomini, si è manifestata, 12 e ci insegna a rinunciare all’empietà e alle passioni mondane, per vivere in questo mondo moderatamente, giustamente e in modo santo, 13 aspettando la beata speranza e l’apparizione della gloria del nostro grande Dio e Salvatore, Cristo Gesù. 14 Egli ha dato se stesso per noi per riscattarci da ogni iniquità[b] e purificarsi un popolo che gli appartenga, zelante nelle opere buone.
15 Parla di queste cose, esorta e riprendi con piena autorità. Nessuno ti disprezzi.

O verdadeiro ensino
2 Quanto a você, fale o que está de acordo com o verdadeiro ensino. 2 Ensine os homens idosos a serem moderados, respeitáveis e prudentes; ensine-os também a serem firmes na fé, no amor e na perseverança. 3 Da mesma maneira, ensine as mulheres idosas a viverem uma vida digna de pessoas santas. Que elas não passem o tempo falando mal dos outros nem sendo escravas de muito vinho. Elas devem ensinar o bem, 4 a fim de instruir as mulheres mais jovens a amarem a seus maridos e a seus filhos. 5 Elas também devem ensiná-las a serem prudentes, puras, boas donas de casa, bondosas e submissas a seus próprios maridos. Dessa forma, ninguém poderá falar mal da mensagem de Deus. 6 Da mesma maneira, encoraje os jovens para que eles sejam prudentes em tudo. 7 Torne-se você mesmo um exemplo de boas obras. Ao ensinar, você deve mostrar integridade e seriedade, 8 fazendo uso de uma linguagem construtiva e que não possa ser criticada. Assim, aqueles que estão contra você ficarão envergonhados por não terem nada de mau a dizer a nosso respeito.
9 Ensine os escravos a serem sempre e em tudo obedientes aos seus senhores. Eles devem tentar agradar aos seus senhores sem discutir com eles 10 e também não devem roubá-los. Pelo contrário! Eles devem mostrar que são dignos de toda a confiança para que, em todas as coisas, façam com que o ensino que procede de Deus, nosso Salvador, seja atraente.
11 Pois, a graça de Deus que traz a salvação foi revelada a todas as pessoas. 12 E esta graça nos ensina que devemos renunciar a todas as coisas que desagradam a Deus e aos desejos do mundo, e que devemos viver neste mundo de maneira prudente, justa e com devoção a Deus. 13 Devemos viver assim enquanto esperamos por aquele dia feliz, quando a glória do nosso grande Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo for revelada. 14 Foi ele quem morreu por nós, a fim de nos livrar de toda maldade e de purificar um povo que pertença somente a ele e que se dedique a fazer o bem.
15 Transmita estas coisas às pessoas e, com toda a autoridade, repreenda e anime a todos. Não deixe que ninguém o despreze.

2 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

Doing Good for the Sake of the Gospel
2 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.(A) 2 Teach the older men(B) to be temperate,(C) worthy of respect, self-controlled,(D) and sound in faith,(E) in love and in endurance.
3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers(F) or addicted to much wine,(G) but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women(H) to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled(I) and pure, to be busy at home,(J) to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands,(K) so that no one will malign the word of God.(L)
6 Similarly, encourage the young men(M) to be self-controlled.(N) 7 In everything set them an example(O) by doing what is good.(P) In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.(Q)
9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything,(R) to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior(S) attractive.(T)
11 For the grace(U) of God has appeared(V) that offers salvation to all people.(W) 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,(X) and to live self-controlled,(Y) upright and godly lives(Z) in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing(AA) of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,(AB) 14 who gave himself for us(AC) to redeem us from all wickedness(AD) and to purify(AE) for himself a people that are his very own,(AF) eager to do what is good.(AG)
15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
