Travay Tit sou zile Krèt la

Mwen kite w nan Krèt pou ou fin ranje sa k dwe mete nan lòd. Mwen vle w mete yon gwoup moun ki gen matirite pou dirije legliz ki nan chak vil, dapre jan m te di w, mwen menm: Gade si w jwenn moun ki pa gen repitasyon moun ki nan sa ki mal, ki gen yon sèl madanm,[b] ki gen ti moun ki kwè epi ki pa gen dosye debòch ni dosye rebelyon. Chak lidè[c] nan legliz la dwe san fay, paske se jeran Bondye li ye; fòk li pa awogan, fòk li pa fè kòlè fasil, fòk li pa renmen bwè alkòl, ni vyolan, ni ap fè lajan yon fason ki fè wont.

Men se pou l renmen resevwa moun lakay li, se pou l renmen sa ki byen, moun ki gen bon konprann, moun ki jis, moun konsakre pou Bondye, moun ki kenbe tèt yo byen. Li dwe yon moun ki fidèl ak Pawòl la, jan nou preche l la. Lè sa a, l ap kapab ankouraje lòt moun epi bay yon ansèyman ki dwat. Epitou, l ap kapab konvenk moun k ap bay move ansèyman yo, pou di se pa bon.

10 Paske gen yon seri moun ki pa vle koute pèsòn, sitou pami kwayan Jwif yo. Y ap bay yon bann vye diskou ki pa chita sou anyen, y ap twonpe moun yo. 11 Fòk nou fèmen bouch moun konsa. Y ap detwi yon bann fanmi ak move ansèyman y ap bay. Tout sa y ap chache fè se twonpe moun ak move ansèyman pou fè yo ba yo lajan. 12 Gen youn nan yo menm, pwòp pwofèt yo, moun Krèt, ki di konsa:

“Moun Krèt, toujou fò nan bay manti.
    Yo pa miyò pase bèt mawon mechan.
Sèl sa yo konnen, se manje,
    men yo pa janm vle travay.”

13 Sa l di a, se vre. Moun konsa, di yo seryezman yo bezwen chanje. Yon ekzòtasyon byen serye pral ede yo gen yon ki lafwa dwat. 14 Yo va sispann swiv istwa Jwif yo. Yo va sispann swiv prensip lèzòm bay yo tou, yon bann moun ki vire do bay verite a.

15 Tout bagay pwòp pou moun ki gen lespri yo pwòp. Men, anyen pa pwòp pou moun ki refize kwè. Okontrè, entelijans yo ansanm ak konsyans vin sal. 16 Yo di yo konnen Bondye. Men, jan y ap viv nan fè sa ki mal, sa montre se pa vre. Se jan de moun sa yo Bondye rayi. Yo refize obeyi Bondye. Yo pa itil pou fè anyen ki byen.

Paul, a bond servant of God and an apostle (a special messenger) of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) to stimulate and promote the faith of God’s chosen ones and to lead them on to accurate discernment and recognition of and acquaintance with the Truth which belongs to and harmonizes with and tends to godliness,

[Resting] in the hope of eternal life, [life] which the ever truthful God Who cannot deceive promised before the world or the ages of time began.

And [now] in His own appointed time He has made manifest (made known) His Word and revealed it as His message through the preaching entrusted to me by command of God our Savior;

To Titus, my true child according to a common (general) faith: Grace (favor and spiritual blessing) and [heart] peace from God the Father and the Lord Christ Jesus our Savior.

For this reason I left you [behind] in Crete, that you might set right what was defective and finish what was left undone, and that you might appoint elders and set them over the churches (assemblies) in every city as I directed you.

[These elders should be] men who are of unquestionable integrity and are irreproachable, the husband of [but] one wife, whose children are [well trained and are] believers, not open to the accusation of being loose in morals and conduct or unruly and disorderly.

For the bishop (an overseer) as God’s steward must be blameless, not self-willed or arrogant or presumptuous; he must not be quick-tempered or given to drink or pugnacious (brawling, violent); he must not be grasping and greedy for filthy lucre (financial gain);

But he must be hospitable (loving and a friend to believers, especially to strangers and foreigners); [he must be] a lover of goodness [of good people and good things], sober-minded (sensible, discreet), upright and fair-minded, a devout man and religiously correct, temperate and keeping himself in hand.

He must hold fast to the sure and trustworthy Word of God as he was taught it, so that he may be able both to give stimulating instruction and encouragement in sound (wholesome) doctrine and to refute and convict those who contradict and oppose it [showing the wayward their error].

10 For there are many disorderly and unruly men who are idle (vain, empty) and misleading talkers and self-deceivers and deceivers of others. [This is true] especially of those of the circumcision party [who have come over from Judaism].

11 Their mouths must be stopped, for they are mentally distressing and subverting whole families by teaching what they ought not to teach, for the purpose of getting base advantage and disreputable gain.

12 One of their [very] number, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, hurtful beasts, idle and lazy gluttons.

13 And this account of them is [really] true. Because it is [true], rebuke them sharply [deal sternly, even severely with them], so that they may be sound in the faith and free from error,

14 [And may show their soundness by] ceasing to give attention to Jewish myths and fables or to rules [laid down] by [mere] men who reject and turn their backs on the Truth.

15 To the pure [in heart and conscience] all things are pure, but to the defiled and corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are defiled and polluted.

16 They profess to know God [to recognize, perceive, and be acquainted with Him], but deny and disown and renounce Him by what they do; they are detestable and loathsome, unbelieving and disobedient and disloyal and rebellious, and [they are] unfit and worthless for good work (deed or enterprise) of any kind.

Paul, a servant of God(A) and an apostle(B) of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth(C) that leads to godliness(D) in the hope of eternal life,(E) which God, who does not lie,(F) promised before the beginning of time,(G) and which now at his appointed season(H) he has brought to light(I) through the preaching entrusted to me(J) by the command of God(K) our Savior,(L)

To Titus,(M) my true son(N) in our common faith:

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.(O)

Appointing Elders Who Love What Is Good(P)

The reason I left you in Crete(Q) was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint[a] elders(R) in every town, as I directed you. An elder must be blameless,(S) faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe[b] and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer(T) manages God’s household,(U) he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.(V) Rather, he must be hospitable,(W) one who loves what is good,(X) who is self-controlled,(Y) upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly(Z) to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine(AA) and refute those who oppose it.

Rebuking Those Who Fail to Do Good

10 For there are many rebellious people, full of meaningless talk(AB) and deception, especially those of the circumcision group.(AC) 11 They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households(AD) by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of Crete’s own prophets(AE) has said it: “Cretans(AF) are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”[c] 13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke(AG) them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith(AH) 14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths(AI) or to the merely human commands(AJ) of those who reject the truth.(AK) 15 To the pure, all things are pure,(AL) but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.(AM) In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.(AN) 16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.(AO) They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.(AP)
