Ca ngợi và cầu xin được cứu giúp
Soạn cho nhạc trưởng. Bài ca của Đa-vít.
40 Tôi kiên nhẫn chờ đợi [a] CHÚA.
Ngài đã quay lại nghe tiếng kêu xin của tôi.
2 Ngài nhấc tôi lên khỏi hố hủy diệt [b],
khỏi vũng bùn nhão [c].
Ngài đặt tôi đứng trên tảng đá,
khiến chân tôi vững vàng.
3 Ngài đặt một bài ca mới vào miệng tôi,
bài ca ngợi tôn Thượng Đế.
Nhiều người sẽ thấy điều đó và thờ phụng Ngài.
Rồi họ sẽ tin cậy Chúa.
4 Phước cho người tin cậy Chúa,
không quay sang lũ kiêu ngạo
hay chạy theo kẻ lường gạt [d].
5 Lạy Chúa là Thượng Đế tôi,
Ngài đã làm nhiều phép lạ.
Các chương trình của Ngài cho chúng tôi thật nhiều,
không ai có thể so với Ngài.
Nếu tôi thử thuật lại các chương trình đó,
thật quá nhiều đếm không hết.
6 Ngài không muốn sinh tế hay các của dâng.
Ngài đã mở lỗ tai cho tôi [e]
để nghe và vâng lời Ngài.
Ngài không muốn của lễ thiêu
hay sinh tế chuộc tội.
7 Rồi tôi nói, “Nầy tôi đến.
Trong sách có viết về tôi.
8 Lạy Thượng Đế, tôi đến để làm theo ý muốn Ngài.
Lời dạy dỗ của Ngài ở trong lòng tôi.”
9 Tôi sẽ thuật lại sự nhân từ [f] Chúa trong các hội lớn.
Chúa ơi, Ngài biết môi tôi không im lặng.
10 Tôi không giấu diếm sự nhân từ Ngài trong lòng tôi.
Tôi rao ra sự thành tín và sự cứu rỗi của Ngài.
Trong hội lớn đông người,
tôi không giấu diếm tình yêu và chân lý Ngài.
11 Lạy Chúa xin đừng khép lòng nhân từ Ngài đối với tôi.
Xin hãy để tình yêu và chân lý
luôn luôn bảo vệ tôi.
12 Những nỗi khốn khổ vây phủ tôi;
nhiều quá không đếm nổi.
Tội lỗi đã bắt lấy tôi
khiến tôi không còn lối thoát.
Tội lỗi tôi còn nhiều hơn tóc trên đầu tôi,
cho nên tôi đâm ra thất vọng.
13 Lạy Chúa xin hãy cứu tôi.
Lạy Chúa, xin mau mau đến giúp tôi.
14 Nhiều kẻ tìm giết mạng sống tôi.
Xin khiến chúng nó bị hổ nhục và nhuốc nhơ.
Kẻ nào muốn hại tôi,
xin khiến chúng nó bỏ chạy vì xấu hổ.
15 Kẻ nào chế giễu tôi,
xin khiến chúng nó câm miệng vì xấu hổ.
16 Nhưng xin hãy cho những ai theo Ngài được vui mừng hớn hở.
Họ yêu mến Ngài vì Ngài cứu họ.
Nguyền cho họ luôn luôn nói, “Đáng ca ngợi Chúa [g]!”
17 Lạy Chúa, vì tôi nghèo khổ và khốn đốn, xin hãy nhớ đến tôi.
Ngài là Đấng giúp đỡ và là Đấng cứu chuộc tôi.
Lạy Thượng Đế, xin đừng chậm trễ.

40 Tôi kiên nhẫn trông đợi CHÚA,
Ngài nghiêng qua nghe tiếng kêu cứu của tôi.
2 Ngài kéo tôi lên khỏi hố khủng khiếp,
Khỏi vũng bùn lầy.
Ngài đặt chân tôi trên tảng đá,
Làm cho bước chân tôi vững vàng.
3 Ngài ban cho miệng tôi một bài ca mới,
Bài hát ca ngợi Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta.
Nhiều người sẽ thấy, kính sợ
Và tin cậy nơi CHÚA.
4 Phước cho người nào tin cậy nơi CHÚA,
Không hướng về kẻ kiêu ngạo, cũng không xoay qua thần giả dối.[a]
5 Lạy CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời của tôi.
Chính Ngài đã làm nhiều việc diệu kỳ
Và suy nghĩ nhiều về chúng tôi.[b]
Không ai có thể so sánh với Ngài.[c]
Nếu tôi phải nói ra hoặc công bố
Thì nhiều quá, không thể đếm được.
6 Ngài không mong muốn tế lễ hy sinh hay tế lễ chay,
Ngài đã mở tai cho tôi,[d]
Ngài không đòi hỏi tế lễ thiêu hay tế lễ chuộc tội.
7 Bấy giờ tôi nói: đây, tôi đến.
Trong quyển sách có chép về tôi.
8 Lạy Đức Chúa Trời tôi, Tôi mong muốn làm theo ý Ngài,
Kinh Luật của Ngài ở trong lòng tôi.
9 Tôi đã truyền tin mừng công chính giữa đại hội.
Kìa, môi miệng tôi không nín lặng.
Lạy CHÚA, Ngài biết điều này.
10 Tôi không giấu sự công chính của Ngài trong lòng tôi,
Tôi công bố sự công chính và sự cứu rỗi của Ngài,
Tôi không giấu tình yêu thương và chân lý của Ngài
Giữa đại hội.
11 Lạy CHÚA, xin chớ khép kín lòng thương xót đối với tôi,
Nguyện tình yêu thương và chân lý của Ngài hằng gìn giữ tôi.
12 Vì vô số tai họa vây quanh tôi,
Tội ác tôi bắt kịp tôi, tôi không thể thấy được,
Chúng nhiều hơn tóc trên đầu tôi,
Lòng gan dạ của tôi cũng tiêu tan.[e]
13 Lạy CHÚA, xin vui lòng giải cứu tôi.
Lạy CHÚA, xin mau mau giúp đỡ tôi.
14 Nguyện những kẻ tìm giết mạng sống tôi
Đều bị hổ thẹn và bối rối.
Nguyện những kẻ muốn hại tôi
Phải rút lui và nhục nhã.
15 Nguyện những kẻ nói với tôi: Ha! Ha!
Bị kinh hoàng trước sự sỉ nhục mình.
16 Nguyện tất cả những người tìm kiếm Ngài
Được hân hoan và vui mừng trong Ngài.
Những người yêu mến sự cứu rỗi Ngài sẽ luôn luôn tung hô:
CHÚA vĩ đại thay!
17 Còn tôi, dù yếu kém và cùng khốn,
Chúa nghĩ đến tôi.
Ngài là Đấng giúp đỡ và giải cứu tôi.
Lạy Đức Chúa Trời tôi, xin chớ chậm trễ.

40 I (B)waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of (C)the miry clay,
And (D)set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
3 (E)He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord.
4 (F)Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust,
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 (G)Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works
Which You have done;
(H)And Your thoughts toward us
Cannot be recounted to You in order;
If I would declare and speak of them,
They are more than can be numbered.
6 (I)Sacrifice and offering You did not desire;
My ears You have opened.
Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.
7 Then I said, “Behold, I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
8 (J)I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is (K)within my heart.”
9 (L)I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;
Indeed, (M)I do not restrain my lips,
O Lord, You Yourself know.
10 (N)I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth
From the great assembly.
11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord;
(O)Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me;
(P)My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up;
They are more than the hairs of my head;
Therefore my heart fails me.
13 (Q)Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me;
O Lord, make haste to help me!
14 (R)Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion
Who seek to destroy my [a]life;
Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor
Who wish me evil.
15 Let them be (S)confounded because of their shame,
Who say to me, “Aha, aha!”
16 (T)Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
Let such as love Your salvation (U)say continually,
“The Lord be magnified!”
17 (V)But I am poor and needy;
(W)Yet the Lord thinks upon me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
Do not delay, O my God.

6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, thou knowest.
10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me.
14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil.
15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha.
16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.
17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song(I) in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord(J)
and put their trust(K) in him.
4 Blessed is the one(L)
who trusts in the Lord,(M)
who does not look to the proud,(N)

the things you planned for us.
None can compare(Q) with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
