132 (Shir HaMa’alot) Hashem, remember Dovid, and all his afflictions;
2 How he swore unto Hashem, and vowed unto Avir Ya’akov (the Mighty One of Ya’akov);
3 Surely I will not come into the ohel of my bais, nor go up into my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to mine eyes, nor tenumah (slumber) to mine eyelids,
5 Until I find a makom (place) for Hashem, even mishkanot for the Avir Ya’akov.
6 Hinei, we heard of it at Ephratah; we found it in the sedei Ya’ar (fields of Ya’ar).
7 We will go into His mishkanot; we will worship at the hadom (footstool) of His raglayim.
8 Arise, Hashem, into Thy menuchah (resting place); Thou, and the Aron of Thy oz (might).
9 Let Thy Kohanim be clothed with tzedek; and let Thy chasidim sing for joy.
10 For the sake of Dovid Thy Eved, do not turn away the face of Thine Moshiach [see Isa 52:13; 53:11].
11 Hashem hath sworn in emes unto Dovid; He will not turn from His oath: Of the p’ri (fruit) of thy beten (body) will I set upon thy kisse (throne).
12 If thy Banim are shomer over My Brit and My Edot that I shall teach them, their Banim shall also sit upon thy kisse adei-ad (forevermore).
13 For Hashem hath chosen Tziyon; He hath desired her for His moshav.
14 This is My menuchah (resting place) adei-ad (forever); here will I dwell; for I have desired her.
15 I will place a bountiful brocha on her provision; I will satisfy her poor with lechem.
16 I will also clothe her Kohanim with Yesha (salvation); and her chasidim shall sing aloud for joy.
17 There atzmi’ach (I will make sprout i.e., Tzemach) the Keren of Dovid; I have ordained a ner (lamp) for My Moshiach.
18 His oyevim will I clothe with boshet (shame); but upon him [Moshiach] shall his nezer (crown) be resplendent.

132 Lord, remember David
And all his afflictions;
2 How he swore to the Lord,
(A)And vowed to (B)the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 “Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,
Or go up to the comfort of my bed;
4 I will (C)not give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
5 Until I (D)find a place for the Lord,
A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard of it (E)in Ephrathah;
(F)We found it (G)in the fields of [a]the woods.
7 Let us go into His tabernacle;
(H)Let us worship at His footstool.
8 (I)Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place,
You and (J)the ark of Your strength.
9 Let Your priests (K)be clothed with righteousness,
And let Your saints shout for joy.
10 For Your servant David’s sake,
Do not turn away the face of Your [b]Anointed.
11 (L)The Lord has sworn in truth to David;
He will not turn from it:
“I will set upon your throne (M)the [c]fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I shall teach them,
Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.”
13 (N)For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His [d]dwelling place:
14 “This(O) is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 (P)I will abundantly bless her [e]provision;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 (Q)I will also clothe her priests with salvation,
(R)And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
17 (S)There I will make the [f]horn of David grow;
(T)I will prepare a lamp for My [g]Anointed.
18 His enemies I will (U)clothe with shame,

132 Remember, O Lord, in David's favor,
all (B)the hardships he endured,
2 how he swore to the Lord
and (C)vowed to (D)the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4 I will not (E)give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I (F)find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place for (G)the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard of it in (H)Ephrathah;
we found it in (I)the fields of Jaar.
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us (J)worship at his (K)footstool!”
8 (L)Arise, O Lord, and go to your (M)resting place,
you and the ark of your (N)might.
9 Let your (O)priests be (P)clothed with righteousness,
and let your (Q)saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,

11 (T)The Lord swore to David a sure oath

I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall (W)sit on your throne.”

he has (Y)desired it for his dwelling place:

132 1 The faithful grounding on God’s promise made unto David, desire that he would establish the same, both as touching his posterity, and the building of the Temple, to pray there as was forspoken, Deut. 12:5.
A song of degrees.
1 Lord, remember David with all his [a]affliction,
2 Who sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God, of Jacob, saying,
3 I [b]will not enter into the Tabernacle of mine house, nor come upon my pallet or bed,
4 Nor suffer mine eyes to sleep, nor mine eyelids to slumber,
5 Until I find out a place for the [c]Lord, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.
6 Lo, we heard of it in [d]Ephrathah, and found it in the fields of the forest.
7 We will enter into his Tabernacles, and worship before his footstool.
8 Arise, O Lord, to come into thy [e]rest, thou, and the Ark of thy strength.
9 Let thy Priests be clothed with [f]righteousness, and let thy Saints rejoice.
10 For thy [g]servant David’s sake refuse not the face of thine Anointed.

13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion, and loved to dwell in it, saying,
14 This is my rest forever: here will I dwell, for I have a [i]delight therein.
15 I will surely bless her vittles, and will satisfy her poor with bread,

17 There will I make the [k]horn of David to bud: for I have ordained a light for mine Anointed.
18 His enemies will I clothe with shame, but on him his crown shall flourish.

- Psalm 132:1 That is, with how great difficulty he came to the kingdom, and with how great zeal and care he went about to build thy Temple.
- Psalm 132:3 Because the chief charge of the king was to set forth God’s glory, he showeth that he could take no rest, neither would go about any worldly thing, were it never so necessary, before he had executed his office.
- Psalm 132:5 That is, the Ark, which was a sign of God’s presence.
- Psalm 132:6 The common bruit was that the Ark should remain in Ephrathah, that is, in Bethlehem a plentiful place: but after we perceived that thou wouldest place it in Jerusalem, which was barren as a forest, and compassed about only with hills.
- Psalm 132:8 That is, Jerusalem, because that afterward his Ark should remove to none other place.
- Psalm 132:9 Let the effect of thy grace both appear in the Priests and in the people.
- Psalm 132:10 As thou first madest promise to David, so continue it to his posterity, that whatsoever they shall ask for their people, it may be granted.
- Psalm 132:12 Because this cannot be accomplished but in Christ, it followeth, that the promise was spiritual.
- Psalm 132:14 Meaning, for his own sake, and not for the plentifulness of the place: for he promiseth to bless it, declaring before that it was barren.
- Psalm 132:16 That is, with my protection, whereby they shall be safe.
- Psalm 132:17 Though his force for a time seemed to be broken, yet he promiseth to restore it.
