³ Forsooth her father and mother, when they were rightful, taught their daughter^[a] by the law of Moses. [Forsooth the father and mother of her, when they were just, learned their daughter after the law of Moses.]

⁴ Soothly Joakim was full rich, and had a garden nigh his house; and the Jews came to him, for he was the most worshipful of (or than) all (the others). [Forsooth Joakim was full rich, and to him was a garden nigh to his house; and Jews came together to him, for he was more honourable of all.]

⁵ And twain eld men were ordained to be judges in that year, of which the Lord spake, that wickedness went out of Babylon, of (or from) the elder judges, that seemed to govern the people. [And two old doomsmen be ordained in that year, of which the Lord spake, for wickedness went out of Babylon, of the elder judges which were seen for to rule the people.]
