Song of Songs 5

The Bride Searches for Her Beloved
5 “[a]I have (A)come into my garden, (B)my sister, my bride;
I have picked my (C)myrrh along with my balsam.
I have eaten my honeycomb with my (D)honey;
I have (E)drunk my wine with my milk.
Eat, (F)friends;
Drink and [b]imbibe deeply, O lovers.”
2 “[c]I was asleep, but my heart was awake.
A voice! My beloved was knocking:
‘Open to me, (G)my sister, my darling,
(H)My dove, my perfect one!
For my head is full of dew,
My (I)locks with the [d]damp of the night.’
3 I have (J)taken off my long-sleeved garment,
How can I put it on again?
I have (K)washed my feet,
How can I dirty them again?
4 My beloved sent forth his hand through the opening,
And my [e](L)feelings moaned for him.
5 I arose to open to my beloved;
And my hands (M)dripped with myrrh,
And my fingers with [f]liquid myrrh,
On the handles of the lock.
6 I opened to my beloved,
But my beloved had (N)turned away and passed by!
My soul went out to him as he (O)spoke.
I (P)searched for him, but I did not find him;
I (Q)called him, but he did not answer me.
7 The (R)watchmen who go about in the city found me,
They struck me and wounded me;
The guardsmen of the walls took away my shawl from me.
8 I (S)call you to solemnly swear, O daughters of Jerusalem,
If you find my beloved,
What will you tell him?
Tell him that (T)I am sick with love.”
9 “[g]What is your beloved that he is more than any other beloved,
O (U)most beautiful among women?
What is your beloved that he is more than any other beloved,
That thus you call us to solemnly swear?”
The Bride Extols Her Beloved
10 “[h]My beloved is dazzling and (V)ruddy,
(W)Lifted up as a banner among ten thousand.
11 His head is like gold, fine gold;
His (X)locks are like clusters of dates
And black as a raven.
12 His (Y)eyes are like doves
Beside streams of water,
Washed in milk,
And sitting in their (Z)setting.
13 His cheeks are like a (AA)bed of spices,
Towers of sweet-scented herbs;
His lips are (AB)lilies
(AC)Dripping with liquid myrrh.
14 His hands are rods of gold
Set with (AD)beryl;
His abdomen is a plate of ivory
Inlaid with [i](AE)sapphires.
15 His legs are pillars of marble
Set on bases of fine gold;
His appearance is like (AF)Lebanon
Choice as the (AG)cedars.
16 His [j](AH)mouth is full of sweetness.
And he is wholly (AI)desirable.
This is my beloved and this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem.”

Cantares 5
La Palabra (Hispanoamérica)
Amado
5 Ya llego a mi jardín,
hermana y novia mía,
a recoger mi mirra y mis especias,
a comer de mi miel y mi panal,
a beber de mi vino y de mi leche.
Coro
¡Coman, amigos, beban
y embriáguense de amores!
Cuarto cantar
Amada
2 Yo dormía con el corazón en vela
y escuché la voz de mi amor:
— Ábreme, hermana y compañera mía,
mi paloma sin defecto,
que traigo la cabeza cubierta de rocío
y los rizos mojados del relente nocturno.
3 — Ya me quité la túnica,
¿cómo voy a ponérmela?
Ya me lavé los pies,
¿cómo voy a mancharlos?
4 Mi amor metió su mano en la rendija
y se me estremecieron las entrañas.
5 Me levanté para abrirle a mi amor:
mis manos goteaban mirra
y mis dedos mirra líquida
sobre el cerrojo de la puerta.
6 Yo misma abrí a mi amor
y mi amor se había marchado.
¡El alma se me fue con sus palabras!
Lo busqué y no lo hallé,
lo llamé y no respondió.
7 Me descubrieron los guardias
que hacían ronda en la ciudad:
me golpearon, me hirieron
y me quitaron el manto
los guardias de las murallas.
8 Júrenme, muchachas de Jerusalén,
que si encuentran a mi amor,
esto le habrán de decir:
¡que estoy enferma de amor!
Coro
9 ¿Qué distingue a tu amor de cualquier otro,
hermosa entre las mujeres?
¿Qué distingue a tu amor de cualquier otro,
para que así nos supliques?
Amada
10 Mi amor es moreno claro,
descollante entre diez mil.
11 Su cabeza es oro puro
con los cabellos rizados
y más negros que los cuervos.
12 Sus ojos son dos palomas
sobre pilones de agua,
que se bañan en leche
y se posan en la alberca.
13 Sus mejillas, balsameras
y macizos de perfumes;
y sus labios como lirios
que destilan mirra líquida.
14 Sus manos, argollas de oro,
enjoyadas de topacio;
su vientre, marfil labrado,
recubierto de zafiros.
15 Dos columnas de mármol, sus piernas,
firmes sobre basas de oro.
Su apariencia es como el Líbano,
distinguido como el cedro.
16 Su paladar es dulcísimo,
¡todo él es un encanto!
Así es mi amor y mi amigo,
muchachas de Jerusalén.

Lover
5 I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride.
I have gathered my myrrh with my spice;
I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey;
I have drunk my wine with my milk.
Friends
Eat, friends!
Drink, yes, drink abundantly, beloved.
Beloved
2 I was asleep, but my heart was awake.
It is the voice of my beloved who knocks:
“Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled;
for my head is filled with dew,
and my hair with the dampness of the night.”
3 I have taken off my robe. Indeed, must I put it on?
I have washed my feet. Indeed, must I soil them?
4 My beloved thrust his hand in through the latch opening.
My heart pounded for him.
5 I rose up to open for my beloved.
My hands dripped with myrrh,
my fingers with liquid myrrh,
on the handles of the lock.
6 I opened to my beloved;
but my beloved left, and had gone away.
My heart went out when he spoke.
I looked for him, but I didn’t find him.
I called him, but he didn’t answer.
7 The watchmen who go about the city found me.
They beat me.
They bruised me.
The keepers of the walls took my cloak away from me.
8 I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem,
If you find my beloved,
that you tell him that I am faint with love.
Friends
9 How is your beloved better than another beloved,
you fairest among women?
How is your beloved better than another beloved,
that you do so adjure us?
Beloved
10 My beloved is white and ruddy.
The best among ten thousand.
11 His head is like the purest gold.
His hair is bushy, black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves beside the water brooks,
washed with milk, mounted like jewels.
13 His cheeks are like a bed of spices with towers of perfumes.
His lips are like lilies, dropping liquid myrrh.
14 His hands are like rings of gold set with beryl.
His body is like ivory work overlaid with sapphires.
15 His legs are like pillars of marble set on sockets of fine gold.
His appearance is like Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
16 His mouth is sweetness;
yes, he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved, and this is my friend,
daughters of Jerusalem.
