Song of Solomon 7-8
New American Standard Bible 1995
Admiration by the Bridegroom
7 “[a]How beautiful are your [b]feet in sandals,
O [c](A)prince’s daughter!
The curves of your hips are like [d]jewels,
The work of the hands of an artist.
2 “Your navel is like a round goblet
Which never lacks mixed wine;
Your belly is like a heap of wheat
Fenced about with lilies.
3 “Your (B)two breasts are like two fawns,
Twins of a gazelle.
4 “Your (C)neck is like a tower of ivory,
Your eyes like the pools in (D)Heshbon
By the gate of Bath-rabbim;
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon,
Which faces toward Damascus.
5 “Your head [e]crowns you like (E)Carmel,
And the flowing locks of your head are like purple threads;
The king is captivated by your tresses.
6 “How (F)beautiful and how delightful you are,
[f]My love, with all your charms!
7 “[g]Your stature is like a palm tree,
And your breasts are like its clusters.
8 “I said, ‘I will climb the palm tree,
I will take hold of its fruit stalks.’
Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine,
And the fragrance of your [h]breath like [i](G)apples,
9 And your [j](H)mouth like the best wine!”
“[k]It (I)goes down smoothly for my beloved,
Flowing gently through the lips of those who fall asleep.
The Union of Love
10 “(J)I am my beloved’s,
And his (K)desire is for me.
11 “Come, my beloved, let us go out into the [l]country,
Let us spend the night in the villages.
12 “Let us rise early and go to the vineyards;
Let us (L)see whether the vine has budded
And its blossoms have opened,
And whether the pomegranates have bloomed.
There I will give you my love.
13 “The (M)mandrakes have given forth fragrance;
And over our doors are all (N)choice fruits,
Both new and old,
Which I have saved up for you, my beloved.
The Lovers Speak
8 “Oh that you were like a brother to me
Who nursed at my mother’s breasts.
If I found you outdoors, I would kiss you;
No one would despise me, either.
2 “I would lead you and (O)bring you
Into the house of my mother, who used to instruct me;
I would give you spiced wine to drink from the juice of my pomegranates.
3 “Let (P)his left hand be under my head
And his right hand embrace me.”
4 “[m](Q)I want you to swear, O daughters of Jerusalem,
[n]Do not arouse or awaken my love
Until [o]she pleases.”
“[q]Beneath the [r](S)apple tree I awakened you;
There your mother was in labor with you,
There she was in labor and gave you birth.
6 “Put me like a [s]seal over your heart,
Like a (T)seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
[t](U)Jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
[u]The very flame of the Lord.
7 “Many waters cannot quench love,
Nor will rivers overflow it;
(V)If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love,
It would be utterly despised.”
8 “[v]We have a little sister,
And she (W)has no breasts;
What shall we do for our sister
On the day when she is spoken for?
9 “If she is a wall,
We will build on her a battlement of silver;
But if she is a door,
We will barricade her with (X)planks of cedar.”
10 “[w]I was a wall, and (Y)my breasts were like towers;
Then I became in his eyes as one who finds peace.
11 “Solomon had a (Z)vineyard at Baal-hamon;
He (AA)entrusted the vineyard to (AB)caretakers.
Each one was to bring a (AC)thousand shekels of silver for its (AD)fruit.
12 “My very own vineyard is [x]at my disposal;
The thousand shekels are for you, Solomon,
And two hundred are for those who take care of its fruit.”
13 “[y]O you who sit in the gardens,
My (AE)companions are listening for your voice—
(AF)Let me hear it!”
14 “[z][aa]Hurry, my beloved,
And be (AG)like a gazelle or a young [ab]stag
On the (AH)mountains of spices.”

Prosperity Comes from the Lord.
A Song of Ascents, of Solomon.
127 Unless the Lord (A)builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord (B)guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To [a]retire late,
To (C)eat the bread of [b]painful labors;
For He gives to His (D)beloved (E)even in his sleep.
3 Behold, (F)children are a [c]gift of the Lord,
The (G)fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a (H)warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 How (I)blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
(J)They will not be ashamed
When they (K)speak with their enemies (L)in the gate.

Man of Lawlessness
2 Now we request you, (A)brethren, with regard to the [a](B)coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our (C)gathering together to Him, 2 that you not be quickly shaken from your [b]composure or be disturbed either by a (D)spirit or a [c](E)message or a (F)letter as if from us, to the effect that (G)the day of the Lord (H)has come. 3 (I)Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the [d](J)apostasy comes first, and the (K)man of lawlessness is revealed, the (L)son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above [e](M)every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, (N)displaying himself as being God. 5 Do you not remember that (O)while I was still with you, I was telling you these things? 6 And you know (P)what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed. 7 For (Q)the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only (R)he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. 8 Then that lawless one (S)will be revealed whom the Lord will slay (T)with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the (U)appearance of His [f]coming; 9 that is, the one whose [g]coming is in accord with the activity of (V)Satan, with all power and [h](W)signs and false wonders, 10 and with [i]all the deception of wickedness for (X)those who perish, because they did not receive the love of (Y)the truth so as to be saved. 11 For this reason (Z)God [j]will send upon them [k]a (AA)deluding influence so that they will believe [l]what is false, 12 in order that they all may be [m]judged who (AB)did not believe the truth, but [n](AC)took pleasure in wickedness.
13 (AD)But we should always give thanks to God for you, (AE)brethren beloved by the Lord, because (AF)God has chosen you [o]from the beginning (AG)for salvation [p](AH)through sanctification [q]by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He (AI)called you through (AJ)our gospel, [r]that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brethren, (AK)stand firm and (AL)hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether (AM)by word of mouth or (AN)by letter [s]from us.
16 (AO)Now may our Lord Jesus Christ (AP)Himself and God our Father, who has (AQ)loved us and given us eternal comfort and (AR)good hope by grace, 17 (AS)comfort and (AT)strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
