^(B)to see whether the vines had budded,
    whether the pomegranates were in bloom.
¹²^(C)Before I was aware, my desire set me
    among ^(D)the chariots of my kinsman, a prince.^[a]

Why should you look upon ^(F)the Shulammite,
as upon ^(G)a dance before ^(H)two armies?^[c]

7 How beautiful are your feet in sandals,
    O ^(I)noble daughter!
Your rounded thighs are like ^(J)jewels,
    the work of ^(K)a master hand.
²Your navel is a rounded bowl
    that never lacks mixed wine.
Your belly is a heap of wheat,
    encircled with ^(L)lilies.
³^(M)Your two breasts are like two fawns,
    twins of a gazelle.
⁴Your ^(N)neck is like an ivory tower.
Your ^(O)eyes are pools in ^(P)Heshbon,
    by the gate of Bath-rabbim.
Your nose is like a tower of ^(Q)Lebanon,
    which looks toward ^(R)Damascus.
⁵Your head crowns you like ^(S)Carmel,
    and your ^(T)flowing locks are like purple;
    a king is held captive in the tresses.

⁶^(U)How beautiful and ^(V)pleasant you are,
    O loved one, with all your delights!^[d]
⁷Your stature is like a palm tree,
    and your breasts are like its clusters.
⁸I say I will climb the palm tree
    and lay hold of its fruit.
Oh may your breasts be like ^(W)clusters of the vine,
    and the scent of your breath like apples,
⁹and your ^(X)mouth^[e] like the best wine.

It goes down smoothly for my beloved,
gliding over lips and teeth.^[f]

    let us go out into the fields
