Song of Solomon 1:5-2:7
English Standard Version
She
5 I am very dark, but (A)lovely,
O (B)daughters of Jerusalem,
like (C)the tents of (D)Kedar,
like the curtains of Solomon.
6 Do not gaze at me because I am dark,
because the sun has looked upon me.
My (E)mother's sons were angry with me;
they made me (F)keeper of (G)the vineyards,
but (H)my own vineyard I have not kept!
7 Tell me, you (I)whom my soul loves,
where you (J)pasture your flock,
where you make it (K)lie down at noon;
for why should I be like one who veils herself
beside the flocks of your (L)companions?
Solomon and His Bride Delight in Each Other
He
8 If you do not know,
O (M)most beautiful among women,
follow in the tracks of the flock,
and pasture your young goats
beside the shepherds' tents.
9 I compare you, (N)my love,
to (O)a mare among Pharaoh's chariots.
10 (P)Your cheeks are lovely with ornaments,
your neck with strings of jewels.
Others
11 We will make for you[a] ornaments of gold,
studded with silver.
She
12 While (Q)the king was on his couch,
my (R)nard gave forth its fragrance.
13 My beloved is to me a sachet of (S)myrrh
that lies between my breasts.
14 My beloved is to me a cluster of (T)henna blossoms
in the vineyards of (U)Engedi.
He
She
16 Behold, you are beautiful, (Z)my beloved, truly (AA)delightful.
Our couch is green;
17 the beams of our house are (AB)cedar;
our rafters are (AC)pine.
He
2 As a lily among brambles,
so is (AE)my love among the young women.
She
3 As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
so is my (AF)beloved among the young men.
With great delight I sat (AG)in his shadow,
and his (AH)fruit was sweet to my taste.
4 He (AI)brought me to the banqueting house,[c]
and his (AJ)banner over me was love.
5 Sustain me with (AK)raisins;
refresh me with apples,
(AL)for I am sick with love.
6 His (AM)left hand is under my head,
and his right hand (AN)embraces me!
7 I (AO)adjure you,[d] O (AP)daughters of Jerusalem,
by (AQ)the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
