The Bride’s Admiration

2 “I am the ^[a]^(A)rose of ^(B)Sharon,
The ^(C)lily of the valleys.”

The Groom

²“Like a lily among the thorns,
So is ^(D)my darling among the ^[b]young women.”

The Bride

³“Like an ^(E)apple tree among the trees of the forest,
So is my beloved among the ^[c]young men.
In his shade I took great delight and sat down,
And his ^(F)fruit was sweet to my ^[d]taste.
⁴He has ^(G)brought me to his ^[e]banquet hall,
And his ^(H)banner over me is love.
⁵Refresh me with ^(I)raisin cakes,
Sustain me with ^(J)apples,
Because ^(K)I am lovesick.
⁶^(L)His left hand is under my head,
And ^(M)his right hand ^(N)embraces me.”

The Groom

⁷“^(O)Swear to me, you ^(P)daughters of Jerusalem,
By the ^(Q)gazelles or by the ^(R)does of the field,
^(S)That you will not disturb or awaken my love
Until she pleases.”

The Bride

⁸“Listen! My beloved!
Behold, he is coming,
Leaping ^(T)on the mountains,
Jumping on the hills!
⁹My beloved is like a ^(U)gazelle or a ^(V)young ^[f]stag.
Behold, he is standing behind our wall,
He is looking through the windows,
He is peering ^(W)through the lattice.

¹⁰“My beloved responded and said to me,
‘^(X)Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along.
¹¹For behold, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
¹²The blossoms have already appeared in the land;
The time has arrived for ^[g]pruning the vines,
And the voice of the ^(Y)turtledove has been heard in our land.
¹³The ^(Z)fig tree has ripened its fruit,
And the ^(AA)vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance.
Arise, my darling, my beautiful one,
And come along!’”

The Groom

¹⁴“^(AB)My dove, ^(AC)in the clefts of the ^[h]rock,
In the hiding place of the mountain pathway,
Let me see ^[i]how you look,
^(AD)Let me hear your voice;
For your voice is pleasant,
And ^[j]you look ^(AE)delightful.”

The Chorus

¹⁵“^(AF)Catch the ^[k]foxes for us,
The ^[l]little ^[m]foxes that are ruining the vineyards,
While our ^(AG)vineyards are in blossom.”

The Bride

¹⁶“^(AH)My beloved is mine, and I am his;
He ^(AI)pastures his flock among the lilies.
¹⁷^(AJ)Until the cool of the day, when the shadows flee,
Turn, my beloved, and be like a ^(AK)gazelle
Or a young stag ^(AL)on the mountains of ^[n]Bether.”

Pay Attention

2 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to ^[a]what we have heard, so that ^(A)we do not drift away from it. ²For if the word ^(B)spoken through ^(C)angels proved ^[b]unalterable, and ^(D)every violation and act of disobedience received a just ^[c]^(E)punishment, ³^(F)how will we escape if we neglect so great a ^(G)salvation? ^[d]After it was at first ^(H)spoken through the Lord, it was ^(I)confirmed to us by those who heard, ⁴God also testifying with them, both by ^(J)signs and wonders, and by ^(K)various ^[e]miracles and by ^[f]^(L)gifts of the Holy Spirit ^(M)according to His own will.

Earth Subject to Man

⁵For He did not subject to angels ^[g]^(N)the world to come, about which we are speaking. ⁶But someone has testified ^(O)somewhere, saying,

“^(P)What is man, that You think of him?
Or a son of man, that You are concerned about him?
⁷^(Q)You have made him ^[h]for a little while lower than angels;
You have crowned him with glory and honor^[i];
⁸^(R)You have put everything in subjection under his feet.”

For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now ^(S)we do not yet see all things subjected to him.

Jesus Briefly Humbled

⁹But we do see Him who was ^(T)made ^[j]for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, ^(U)because of His suffering death ^(V)crowned with glory and honor, so that ^(W)by the grace of God He might ^(X)taste death ^(Y)for everyone.

¹⁰For ^(Z)it was fitting for Him, ^(AA)for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to ^(AB)perfect the ^[k]^(AC)originator of their salvation through sufferings. ¹¹For both He who ^(AD)sanctifies and those who ^(AE)are ^[l]sanctified are all ^(AF)from one Father; for this reason He is not ashamed to call them ^(AG)brothers and sisters, ¹²saying,

“^(AH)I will proclaim Your name to My brothers,
In the midst of the assembly I will sing Your praise.”

¹³And again,

“^(AI)I will put My trust in Him.”

And again,

“^(AJ)Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.”

¹⁴Therefore, since the children share in ^[m]^(AK)flesh and blood, ^(AL)He Himself likewise also partook of the same, so that ^(AM)through death He might destroy ^(AN)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵and free those who through ^(AO)fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. ¹⁶For clearly He does not ^[n]give help to angels, but He gives help to the ^[o]descendants of Abraham. ¹⁷Therefore, in all things He ^[p]had ^(AP)to be made like His brothers so that He might ^(AQ)become a merciful and faithful ^(AR)high priest in ^(AS)things pertaining to God, to ^(AT)make ^[q]propitiation for the sins of the people. ¹⁸For since He Himself was ^[r]^(AU)tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are ^[s]tempted.
