²⁶ But the other woman corresponds to the Jerusalem above; she is free, and she is our mother.^(A)

¹⁰ Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace intended for you made careful search and inquiry,^{(A) 11} inquiring about the time and circumstances^[a] that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings intended for Christ and the subsequent glory.^{(B) 12} It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look!^(C)

¹⁵ and how from childhood you have known sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.^{(A) 47} But if you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

³⁹ “You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and it is they that testify on my behalf.^(A)

²⁹ Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’^{(A) 30} He said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’^{(B) 31} He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

¹⁰ Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers and sisters who hold the testimony of Jesus.^[a] Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus^[b] is the spirit of prophecy.”^(A)

¹⁹ So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.^(A)

¹¹ These Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica, for they welcomed the message very eagerly and examined the scriptures every day to see whether these things were so.^{(A) 12} Many of them therefore believed, including not a few Greek women and men of high standing.
