¹⁴And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was ^(A)a small round ^(B)substance, as fine as frost on the ground. ¹⁵So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was.

And Moses said to them, ^(C)“This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. ¹⁶This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it ^(D)according to each one’s need, one ^(E)omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.’ ”

New Living Translation

¹⁴When the dew evaporated, a flaky substance as fine as frost blanketed the ground. ¹⁵The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it. “What is it?” they asked each other. They had no idea what it was.

And Moses told them, “It is the food the Lord has given you to eat. ¹⁶These are the Lord’s instructions: Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts^[a] for each person in your tent.”

¹⁴And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. ¹⁵When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, ^(A)“What is it?”^[a] For they ^(B)did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, ^(C)“It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat. ¹⁶This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an ^(D)omer,^[b] according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’”
