Detta är Herrens ord som kom till Sefanja, son till Kushi, son till Gedalja, son till Amarja, son till Hiskia[a], när Josia[b], Amons son, var kung i Juda.

Herrens stora vredesdag

(A) Jag ska sopa bort allt

        i utländska kläder[d].
På den dagen ska jag straffa
        alla som hoppar över tröskeln[e],
dem som fyller sin herres hus
        med våld och svek.

10 (G) Och det ska ske på den dagen,
        säger Herren,
    att sorgerop hörs från Fiskporten
        och jämmer från Nya staden
och ett mäktigt dån från höjderna.
11 Jämra er,
        ni som bor i Mortelkvarteret,
för det är slut med hela skaran
        av köpmän,
    alla som handlar med silver
        utrotas.
12 (H) Och det ska ske på den tiden
    att jag söker igenom Jerusalem
        med lyktor
och straffar dem som sitter där
        i lugn och ro[f]
    och säger i sina hjärtan:
        ”Inte gör Herren något gott
och inte gör han något ont.”
13 (I) Och det ska ske
        att deras ägodelar
    lämnas till plundring
        och deras hus läggs öde.
    De ska bygga hus
men inte få bo i dem,
    de ska plantera vingårdar
men inte få dricka vinet från dem.

Herrens stora dag

14 (J) Herrens stora dag är nära,
        nära och kommer med hast.
    Hör, det är Herrens dag!
        Då ropar hjältarna i ångest.
15 (K) Den dagen är en vredens dag,
en dag av ångest och nöd,
        en dag av ödeläggelse
            och förödelse,
en dag av mörker och dimma,
en dag av moln och dis,
16 en dag då hornstöt och härskri höjs
    mot de befästa städerna
        och de höga murtornen.
17 Då ska jag ge människorna
        sådan ångest
att de går omkring som blinda,
        därför att de har syndat
            mot Herren.
Deras blod ska spridas som stoft
        och deras inälvor som gödsel.
18 (L) Varken deras silver eller deras guld
    ska kunna rädda dem
        Herrens vredes dag.
    Av hans lidelses eld
        ska hela jorden förtäras,
    för fullständigt och med hast
ska han göra slut på alla
            som bor på jorden.

The word of Jehovah which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

I will utterly consume all things from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah. I will consume man and beast; I will consume the birds of the heavens, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the face of the ground, saith Jehovah. And I will stretch out my hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarim with the priests; and them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship, that swear to Jehovah and swear by [a]Malcam; and them that are turned back from following Jehovah; and those that have not sought Jehovah, nor inquired after him.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord Jehovah; for the day of Jehovah is at hand: for Jehovah hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath consecrated his guests. And it shall come to pass in the day of Jehovah’s sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s sons, and all such as are clothed with foreign apparel. And in that day I will [b]punish all those that leap over the threshold, that fill their master’s house with violence and deceit. 10 And in that day, saith Jehovah, there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and a wailing from the [c]second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills. 11 Wail, ye inhabitants of [d]Maktesh; for all [e]the people of Canaan are undone; all they that were laden with silver are cut off. 12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps; and I will [f]punish the men that are [g]settled on their lees, that say in their heart, Jehovah will not do good, neither will he do evil. 13 And their wealth shall become a spoil, and their houses a desolation: yea, they shall build houses, but shall not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but shall not drink the wine thereof.

14 The great day of Jehovah is near, it is near and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of Jehovah; the mighty man crieth there bitterly. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high [h]battlements. 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Jehovah; and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as dung. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he will make an end, yea, a [i]terrible end, of all them that dwell in the land.

The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the Lord.

I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.

I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the Lord, and that swear by Malcham;

And them that are turned back from the Lord; and those that have not sought the Lord, nor enquired for him.

Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

And it shall come to pass in the day of the Lord's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.

12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The Lord will not do good, neither will he do evil.

13 Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
