Santiago 1
Ang Salita ng Diyos
1 Akong si Santiago ay isang alipin ng Diyos at ng Panginoong Jesucristo. Binabati ko ang labindalawang lipi ni Israel na nakakalat sa iba’t ibang bansa.
Mga Pagsubok at mga Tukso
2 Mga kapatid ko, ituring ninyong buong kagalakan kapag dumaranas kayo ng iba’t ibang uri ng pagsubok.
3 Nalalaman ninyo na ang pagsubok sa inyong pananampalataya ay nagbubunga ng pagtitiis. 4 Ngunit hayaan ninyong ang pagtitiis ay magkaroon ng kaniyang ganap na gawa upang kayo ay maging ganap at buo. Sa gayon, kayo ay maging ganap at lubos na walang anumang kakulangan. 5 Kung ang sinuman sa inyo ay kulang sa karunungan, humingi siya sa Diyos at iyon ay ibibigay sa kaniya. Ang Diyos ay nagbibigay nang masagana sa lahat at hindi nagagalit. 6 Ngunit kapag siya ay humingi, humingi siyang may pananampalataya at walang pag-aalinlangan sapagkat ang taong nag-aalinlangan ay katulad ng isang alon sa dagat na tinatangay at ipinapadpad ng hangin. 7 Ang taong nag-aalinlangan ay hindi dapat mag-isip na siyaay tatanggap ng anuman mula sa Panginoon. 8 Ang taong nagdadalawang-isip ay hindi matatag sa lahat ng kaniyang mga lakad.
9 Magmapuri ang kapatid na may mababang kalagayan dahil sa kaniyang pagkakataas. 10 Magmapuri din naman ang mayaman dahil sa kaniyang pagkakababa sapagkat tulad ng bulaklak ng damo, siya ay lilipas. 11 Ito ay sapagkat ang araw ay sumisikat na may matinding init at tinutuyo ang damo. Ang bulaklak ng damo ay nalalagas at sinisira ng araw ang kaakit-akit na anyo nito. Gayundin naman ang mayaman, siya ay lumilipas sa kaniyang mga lakad.
12 Pinagpala ang taong nagtitiis ng pagsubok dahil kapag siya ay nasubok na, tatanggap siya ng putong ng buhay na ipinangako ng Panginoon sa kanila na umiibig sa kaniya.
13 Huwag sabihin ng sinumang tinutukso: Ako ay tinutukso ng Diyos. Ito ay sapagkat ang Diyos ay hindi maaaringmatukso ng mga kasamaan at hindi niya tinutukso ang sinuman. 14 Ang bawat tao ay natutukso kapag siya ay nahihila ng kaniyang masidhing pita at siya ay nasisilo nito. 15 Kapag ang masidhing pita ay naglihi, ito ay nanganganak ng kasalanan. Kung ang kasalanan ay naganap, ito ay nagbubunga ng kamatayan.
16 Minamahal kong mga kapatid, huwag kayong padaya kaninuman. 17 Ang bawat mabuting pagbibigay at bawat ganap na kaloob ay mula sa itaas at nagbubuhat sa Ama ng mga liwanag na walang pagbabago, ni anino man ng pagtalikod. 18 Sa kaniyang sariling kalooban ay ipinanganak niya tayo sa pamamagitan ng salita ng katotohanan upang maging isang uri tayo ng mga unang-bunga ng kaniyang mga nilikha.
Pakikinig at Pagsasagawa
19 Kaya nga, mga minamahal kong kapatid, ang bawat tao ay dapat maging maagap sa pakikinig at maging mahinahon sa pagsasalita at hindi madaling mapoot.
20 Ito ay sapagkat ang poot ng tao ay hindi gumagawa ng katuwiran ng Diyos. 21 Kaya nga, hubarin ninyo ang lahat ng karumihan at ang pag-uumapaw ng kasamaan. Tanggapin ninyo nang may kababaan ng loob ang salitang ihinugpong sa inyo na makakapagligtas sa inyong mga kaluluwa.
22 Maging tagatupad kayo ng salita at huwag maging tagapakinig lamang, na dinadaya ninyo ang inyong mga sarili. 23 Ang sinumang tagapakinig ng salita ngunit hindi tagatupad nito ay natutulad sa isang taong minamasdan ang kaniyang likas na mukha sa salamin. 24 Pagkatapos niyang masdan ang kaniyang sarili, siya ay lumisan at kinalimutan niya kaagad kung ano ang uri ng kaniyang pagkatao. 25 Ngunit ang sinumang tumitingin sa ganap na kautusan ng kalayaan at nananatili rito ay tagapakinig na hindi nakakalimot sa halip siya ay tagatupad ng salita. Ang taong ito ay pagpapalain sa kaniyang ginagawa.
26 Kung ang sinuman sa inyo ay waring relihiyoso at hindi niya pinipigil ang kaniyang dila, subalit dinadaya niya ang kaniyang puso, ang kaniyang relihiyon ay walang kabuluhan. 27 Ang dalisay at walang dungis na relihiyon sa harapan ng Diyos Ama ay ang pagdalaw sa mga ulila at sa mga babaeng balo sa kanilang paghihirap. Ito ay upang maingatan ang kaniyang sarili na hindi mabahiran ng sanlibutan.

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Saludo
1 Santiago[a](A), siervo de Dios(B) y del Señor Jesucristo(C):
A las doce tribus(D) que están en la dispersión[b](E): Saludos(F).
Fe y sabiduría
2 Tengan por sumo gozo(G), hermanos míos, cuando se hallen en[c] diversas pruebas[d](H), 3 sabiendo que la prueba(I) de su fe(J) produce paciencia[e](K), 4 y que la paciencia[f](L) tenga su perfecto resultado[g], para que sean perfectos[h](M) y completos, sin que nada les falte.
5 Y si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría(N), que se la pida a Dios, quien da a todos abundantemente y sin reproche[i], y le será dada(O). 6 Pero que pida con fe(P), sin dudar(Q). Porque el que duda es semejante a la ola del mar, impulsada por el viento y echada de una parte a otra(R). 7 No piense, pues, ese hombre, que recibirá cosa alguna del Señor, 8 siendo hombre de doble ánimo[j](S), inestable en todos sus caminos(T).
Lo transitorio de las riquezas
9 Pero que el hermano de condición humilde se gloríe en su alta posición(U), 10 y el rico en su humillación, pues él pasará como la flor de la hierba(V). 11 Porque el sol sale con calor abrasador(W) y seca la hierba(X), y su flor se cae y la hermosura de su apariencia perece. Así también se marchitará el rico en medio de sus empresas.
La tentación explicada
12 Bienaventurado el hombre que persevera(Y) bajo la prueba, porque una vez que ha sido aprobado, recibirá la corona de la vida(Z) que el Señor ha prometido(AA) a los que lo aman(AB). 13 Que nadie diga cuando es tentado: «Soy tentado por[k] Dios(AC)». Porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal[l] y Él mismo no tienta a nadie. 14 Sino que cada uno es tentado cuando es llevado y seducido por su propia pasión[m]. 15 Después, cuando la pasión[n] ha concebido(AD), da a luz el pecado; y cuando el pecado es consumado(AE), engendra la muerte.
16 Amados hermanos míos(AF), no se engañen(AG). 17 Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto viene[o] de lo alto(AH), desciende del Padre de las luces(AI), con el cual no hay cambio(AJ) ni sombra de variación. 18 En el ejercicio de Su voluntad(AK), Él nos hizo nacer(AL) por la palabra de verdad(AM), para que fuéramos las[p] primicias de sus criaturas(AN).
Hacedores de la palabra
19 Esto lo saben(AO), mis amados hermanos(AP). Pero que cada uno sea pronto para oír, tardo para hablar(AQ), tardo para la ira(AR); 20 pues la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios(AS). 21 Por lo cual, desechando toda inmundicia(AT) y todo resto de malicia[q], reciban ustedes con humildad la palabra implantada(AU), que es poderosa para salvar sus almas.
22 Sean hacedores de la palabra(AV) y no solamente oidores que se engañan a sí mismos. 23 Porque si alguien es oidor de la palabra, y no hacedor, es semejante a un hombre que mira su rostro natural[r] en un espejo(AW); 24 pues después de mirarse a sí mismo e irse, inmediatamente[s] se olvida de qué clase de persona es. 25 Pero el que mira atentamente[t] a la ley perfecta, la ley de la libertad(AX), y permanece en ella, no habiéndose vuelto un oidor olvidadizo sino un hacedor eficaz[u], este será bienaventurado en lo que hace[v](AY).
26 Si alguien se cree religioso, pero no refrena su lengua(AZ), sino que engaña a su propio corazón, la religión del tal es vana. 27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante de nuestro Dios y Padre(BA) es esta: visitar(BB) a los huérfanos(BC) y a las viudas en sus aflicciones[w], y guardarse sin mancha del mundo(BD).
