Salmo 99

Alaben al Señor por su fidelidad para con Israel

99 ¡El Señor reina(A), estremézcanse los pueblos;
Él está sentado como Rey sobre los querubines(B), tiemble la tierra!
El Señor es grande en Sión(C),
Y exaltado sobre todos los pueblos(D).
Alaben Tu nombre grande y temible(E);
Él es santo(F).
El poder del Rey ama la justicia(G);
Tú has establecido la equidad(H);
Has hecho juicio(I) y justicia en Jacob.
Exalten al Señor nuestro Dios(J),
Y póstrense ante el estrado de Sus pies(K);
Él es santo(L).
¶Moisés y Aarón(M) estaban entre Sus sacerdotes(N),
Y Samuel(O) entre los que invocaron Su nombre(P);
Ellos clamaron al Señor(Q), y Él les respondió.
Les habló en la columna de nube(R);
Guardaron Sus testimonios(S),
Y el estatuto que Él les dio.
Oh Señor, Dios nuestro, Tú les respondiste(T);
Fuiste para ellos un Dios perdonador(U),
Pero también vengador de sus malas obras(V).
Exalten al Señor nuestro Dios,
Y póstrense ante Su santo monte,
Porque santo es el Señor nuestro Dios.

Praise to the Lord for His Holiness

99 The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
(A)He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be [a]moved!
The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
[b]He is holy.

The King’s strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests,
And Samuel was among those who (B)called upon His name;
They called upon the Lord, and He answered them.
He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar;
They kept His testimonies and the [c]ordinance He gave them.

You answered them, O Lord our God;
You were to them God-Who-Forgives,
Though You took vengeance on their deeds.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His holy hill;
For the Lord our God is holy.

Footnotes

  1. Psalm 99 A hymn to God as the king whose grandeur is most clearly seen on Mount Zion (Ps 99:2) and in the laws given to Israel (Ps 99:4). Israel is special because of God’s word of justice, which was mediated by the revered speakers, Moses, Aaron, and Samuel (Ps 99:6–8). The poem is structured by the threefold statement that God is holy (Ps 99:3, 5, 9) and by the twice-repeated command to praise (Ps 99:5, 9).
  2. 99:1 Enthroned on the cherubim: cherubim were composite beings with animal and human features, common in ancient Near Eastern art. Two cherubim were placed on the ark (or box) of the covenant in the holy of holies. Upon them God was believed to dwell invisibly, cf. Ex 25:20–22; 1 Sm 4:4; 2 Sm 6:2; Ps 80:2.
  3. 99:5 Footstool: a reference to the ark, cf. 1 Chr 28:2; Ps 132:7.
