Salmo de Asafe
82 Deus está na congregação dos poderosos; julga no meio dos deuses. 2 Até quando julgareis injustamente e respeitareis a aparência da pessoa dos ímpios? (Selá) 3 Defendei o pobre e o órfão; fazei justiça ao aflito e necessitado. 4 Livrai o pobre e o necessitado; tirai-os das mãos dos ímpios.
5 Eles nada sabem, nem entendem; andam em trevas; todos os fundamentos da terra vacilam.
6 Eu disse: Vós sois deuses, e vós outros sois todos filhos do Altíssimo. 7 Todavia, como homens morrereis e caireis como qualquer dos príncipes.
8 Levanta-te, ó Deus, julga a terra, pois te pertencem todas as nações!

Guds dom over samfundets ledere
82 En sang af Asaf.
Gud kalder lederne sammen,
han anklager sit folks dommere:[a]
2 „Hvor længe vil I dømme uretfærdigt?
Hvor længe vil I favorisere de gudløse?
3 Døm de fattige og faderløse retfærdigt,
forsvar de svage og hjælpeløse,
4 red de magtesløse og undertrykte,
fri dem fra onde menneskers magt.
5 I er tåbelige, uvidende og blinde.
Derfor vakler verden i sin grundvold.
6 Jeg har kaldt jer guder,
for I er indsat af mig og burde handle som jeg,[b]
7 men I skal dø som de gudløse mennesker, I er,
akkurat som andre landes gudløse ledere.”
8 Ja, træd frem, Gud, og døm denne verden,
for du har magt over alle folkeslag.

- 82,1 Ordret: „guder”, men det hebraiske ord elohim kan også henvise til mennesker, som repræsenterer Gud og gør hans vilje. I den betydning er det et synonym for „sønner af Gud”. Det samme gælder for 82,6.
- 82,6 Mere ordret: „Jeg har sagt: I er guder, og I er alle sønner af den Højeste.” At være „søn af” på hebraisk har den overførte betydning at have samme karakter og handle på samme måde, som den, man er søn af. For betydningen af „guder” se noten til vers 1.

A Cry for Justice
A psalm of Asaph [C a Levitical musician, a descendant of Gershon, at the time of David; 1 Chr. 6:39; 15:17; 2 Chr. 5:12].
82 God ·is in charge of the great meeting [L takes his place/presides in the great assembly/or the assembly of the gods/divine council; C the angels (powers and authorities; Eph. 6:12) are here called “gods”];
he judges among the “gods” [John 10:35–36].
2 He says, “How long will you ·defend evil people [or judge unfairly]?
How long will you show ·greater kindness [favor; preference] to the wicked? ·
3 ·Defend [Judge] the ·weak [or poor] and the orphans;
·defend the rights of [vindicate] the poor and ·suffering [needy].
4 ·Save [Rescue] the ·weak [or poor] and helpless;
·free [protect] them from the ·power [L hand] of the wicked.
5 “You know nothing. You don’t understand.
You walk in the dark,
while the ·world is falling apart [L foundations of the earth are tottering].
6 I said, ‘You are “gods.”
You are all sons of God Most High.’
7 But you will die like any other person;
you will fall like all the ·leaders [princes; C God will punish these evil angels].”
8 God, ·come [rise up] and judge the earth,
because you ·own [inherit] all the nations.

2 “How long will you[a] defend the unjust
and show partiality(C) to the wicked?[b](D)
3 Defend the weak and the fatherless;(E)
uphold the cause of the poor(F) and the oppressed.
4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
5 “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing.(G)
They walk about in darkness;(H)
all the foundations(I) of the earth are shaken.
