Al director musical. Cántico. Salmo.

66 ¡Aclamen alegres a Dios, habitantes de toda la tierra!
    Canten salmos a su glorioso nombre;
    ¡ríndanle gloriosas alabanzas!
Díganle a Dios:
    «¡Cuán imponentes son tus obras!
Es tan grande tu poder
    que tus enemigos se rinden ante ti.
Toda la tierra se postra en tu presencia
    y te canta salmos;
    canta salmos a tu nombre». Selah

¡Vengan y vean las proezas de Dios,
    sus obras portentosas en nuestro favor!
Convirtió el mar en tierra seca,
    y el pueblo cruzó el río a pie.
    ¡Regocijémonos en él!
Con su poder gobierna eternamente;
    sus ojos vigilan a las naciones,
    para que no se levanten contra él los rebeldes. Selah

Bendigan, pueblos, a nuestro Dios,
    hagan oír la voz de su alabanza.
Él ha protegido nuestra vida,
    ha evitado que resbalen nuestros pies.
10 Tú, oh Dios, nos has puesto a prueba;
    nos has purificado como a la plata.
11 Nos has hecho caer en una trampa;
    has echado sobre nuestra espalda una pesada carga.
12 Dejaste que cabalgaran sobre nuestra cabeza;
    hemos pasado por el fuego y por el agua,
    pero al fin nos has llevado a un lugar de abundancia.

13 Me presentaré en tu Templo con holocaustos
    y cumpliré las promesas que te hice,
14 las promesas de mis labios y mi boca
    que pronuncié en medio de mi angustia.
15 Te ofreceré holocaustos de animales engordados,
    junto con el humo de ofrendas de carneros;
    te ofreceré toros y machos cabríos. Selah

16 Vengan ustedes, temerosos de Dios,
    escuchen, que voy a contarles todo lo que él ha hecho por mí.
17 Clamé a él con mi boca;
    lo alabé con mi lengua.
18 Si en mi corazón hubiera yo abrigado maldad,
    el Señor no me habría escuchado;
19 pero Dios sí me ha escuchado,
    ha atendido a la voz de mi oración.
20 ¡Bendito sea Dios,
    que no rechazó mi oración
    ni me negó su gran amor!

This psalm is a song for the music leader.

Praise God![a]

66 Everyone on earth, shout aloud to praise God,
    because you are very happy.
Sing to praise his great name!
    Praise him in the way that he deserves.
Say to God, ‘You do great things!
Your great power makes your enemies afraid.
    They come to you and they bend down to the ground.
The whole world bends down to worship you.
    Everyone sings to praise your name.’
Selah.
Come and see the great things that God has done.
    He has done wonderful miracles for people!
He caused the Red Sea to become dry land.
    Then his people walked across the Jordan River![b]
So we praise him for what he did there!
He has the power to rule for ever.
    He watches everything that the nations do.
Wicked people should not be proud and turn against him.
Selah.
You people from every nation,
    agree that our God is great!
Praise him with loud voices,
    so that everyone can hear!
He keeps our lives safe.
    He does not let us fall to the ground.
10 You have tested us, God.
You wanted to make us pure,
    as they make silver pure in a hot fire.
11 You caused a trap to catch us,
    so that we had much pain and trouble.
12 You gave people power to hurt us.
We went through dangerous fire and water.
But then you brought us into a safe, open place.[c]

13 I will bring burnt offerings to your Temple.
    I will bring to you the gifts that I promised.
14 When I was in trouble, I made those promises.
    I spoke them aloud.
15 I will offer to you gifts of fat animals,
    to burn them as sacrifices.
I will also burn sheep as offerings,
    and their smell will please you.
I will also offer to you bulls and goats.
Selah.
16 Come and listen,
    all you people who serve God.
I will tell you about the things that God has done for me.
17 I called to him for help,
    then I praised him aloud!
18 If I had kept wicked things in my mind,
    the Lord would not have listened to me.
19 But God did hear me.
When I called to him,
    he listened to my prayer.
20 So I praise God, as he deserves.[d]
He has not refused to listen to me.
    He has continued to love me with his faithful love.

Footnotes

  1. 66:1 This psalm tells about the great things that God has done to help his people. As a result, his people should praise him as he deserves.
  2. 66:6 God led his people out of Egypt where they were slaves. He took them safely through the Red Sea on dry land. Then they walked across the Jordan River into Canaan.
  3. 66:12 Many times God tested his people to see if they really trusted him. Sometimes God let their enemies bring trouble and hurt them. God wanted to make them pure. Silver becomes pure when it is made very hot over a fire. Then the dirt becomes separate from the pure silver.
  4. 66:20 The writer wants everyone to praise God when they see all the good things that God has done.

Praise to God for His Awesome Works

To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm.

66 Make (A)a joyful shout to God, all the earth!
Sing out the honor of His name;
Make His praise glorious.
Say to God,
“How (B)awesome are Your works!
(C)Through the greatness of Your power
Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.
(D)All the earth shall worship You
And sing praises to You;
They shall sing praises to Your name.” Selah

Come and see the works of God;
He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men.
(E)He turned the sea into dry land;
(F)They went through the river on foot.
There we will rejoice in Him.
He rules by His power forever;
His eyes observe the nations;
Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

Oh, bless our God, you peoples!
And make the voice of His praise to be heard,
Who keeps our soul among the living,
And does not allow our feet to [a]be moved.
10 For (G)You, O God, have tested us;
(H)You have refined us as silver is refined.
11 (I)You brought us into the net;
You laid affliction on our backs.
12 (J)You have caused men to ride over our heads;
(K)We went through fire and through water;
But You brought us out to [b]rich fulfillment.

13 (L)I will go into Your house with burnt offerings;
(M)I will pay You my [c]vows,
14 Which my lips have uttered
And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals,
With the sweet aroma of rams;
I will offer bulls with goats. Selah

16 Come and hear, all you who fear God,
And I will declare what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And He was [d]extolled with my tongue.
18 (N)If I regard iniquity in my heart,
The Lord will not hear.
19 But certainly God (O)has heard me;
He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

20 Blessed be God,
Who has not turned away my prayer,
Nor His mercy from me!
