58 Vocês, governantes,[b] sabem o que significa justiça?
Acaso julgam o povo com imparcialidade?
2 De modo algum! Tramam injustiça em seu coração
e espalham violência por toda a terra.
3 Os perversos são pecadores desde o ventre materno;
mentem e se corrompem desde o nascimento.
4 São venenosos como serpentes,
como cobras que se fazem de surdas,
5 para não ouvir a música dos encantadores,
ainda que eles toquem com habilidade.
6 Quebra os dentes dos perversos, ó Deus!
Despedaça, Senhor, a mandíbula desses leões!
7 Que desapareçam como água em terra sedenta,
que se tornem inúteis as armas em suas mãos.[c]
8 Que sejam como a lesma que se desmancha em lodo,
como a criança que nasce morta e nunca verá o sol.
9 Deus os eliminará, tanto os jovens como os velhos,
mais depressa que um fogo de espinhos esquenta uma panela.
10 O justo se alegrará quando vir a vingança contra a injustiça;
no sangue do perverso, lavará os pés.
11 Então, por fim, alguém dirá:
“De fato, há recompensa para o justo;
com certeza há um Deus que faz justiça na terra”.

58 Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
2 Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;
5 Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
6 Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord.
7 Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.
8 As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.
9 Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.
10 The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.

Hoffnung für Alle
Wer das Recht bricht, wird selbst zerbrochen
58 Ein Lied von David, nach der Melodie: »Richte nicht zugrunde«.
2 Ihr Mächtigen[a], trefft ihr wirklich gerechte Entscheidungen?
Gilt noch gleiches Recht für alle, wenn ihr eure Urteile fällt?
3 Nein! Schon eure Gedanken sind von Ungerechtigkeit verseucht,
mit Willkür und Gewalt versklavt ihr das Land.
4 Diese Rechtsbrecher sind von Geburt an verlogen und verdorben,
5 wie eine Viper voll von tödlichem Gift.
Doch wenn es darauf ankommt, sich etwas sagen zu lassen,
dann verschließen sie ihre Ohren,
6 sie stellen sich taub wie eine Schlange,
bei der jede Kunst des Beschwörers versagt.
7 O Gott, schlage ihnen die Zähne aus!
Zerbrich diesen Löwen das Gebiss, Herr!
8 Lass diese Mächtigen verschwinden wie Wasser,
das im Boden versickert!
Wenn sie ihre Pfeile abschießen wollen,
dann sorge dafür, dass sie wirkungslos abprallen!
9 Diesen Leuten soll es ergehen wie Schnecken in sengender Hitze!
Wie eine Fehlgeburt sollen sie das Licht der Sonne nicht sehen!
10 Weg mit ihnen! Gott soll sie davonjagen,
noch bevor sie ihre hinterhältigen Pläne verwirklichen.[b]
11 Ja, Gott wird mit ihnen abrechnen!
Wer ihm die Treue hält, wird sich darüber freuen
und im Blut der Rechtsbrecher waten.
12 Dann werden die Menschen bekennen:
Wer Gott gehorcht, wird doch belohnt;
es gibt tatsächlich einen Gott,
der auf dieser Erde dem Recht zum Sieg verhilft!
