Salmos 39
Traducción en lenguaje actual
La vida es corta
SALMO 39 (38)
Himno de David y de Jedutún.
39 Yo me había propuesto
cuidar mi conducta
y no pecar con mis palabras,
y hasta taparme la boca
en presencia de gente malvada.
2 Así que guardé silencio
y no dije una sola palabra.
Pero eso no me ayudó en nada,
pues mi angustia era mayor:
3 ¡el corazón me ardía en el pecho!
Mientras más pensaba en esto,
más frustrado me sentía;
al fin abrí la boca y dije:
4 «Dios mío,
hazme saber cuál será mi fin,
y cuánto tiempo me queda de vida;
hazme saber cuán corta es mi vida.
5 Me has dado una vida muy breve,
¡tan breve que no es nada para ti!
¡Nadie dura más que un suspiro!
6 Nuestra vida es pasajera;
de nada nos sirve
amontonar riquezas
si al fin y al cabo
otros se quedarán con ellas.
7 »Siendo esto así, Dios mío,
¿qué es lo que puedo esperar?
¡En ti he puesto mi esperanza!
8 Líbrame de todos mis pecados;
¡no dejes que esos necios
se burlen de mí!
9 »Yo he guardado silencio,
no he abierto la boca;
¡nadie puede pedirte cuentas
de lo que decides hacer!
10 Deja ya de castigarme,
pues tus golpes me aniquilan.
11 Tú castigas a la gente
y corriges su maldad;
destruyes como polilla
lo que ellos más valoran.
¡Nadie dura más que un suspiro!
12 »Dios mío,
oye mi oración,
escucha mi queja,
no desatiendas mi llanto.
Para ti soy un peregrino;
estoy de paso por esta vida,
como mis antepasados.
13 Ya no me mires así,
y antes de abandonar este mundo
dame un poco de alegría».
Psalm 39
World English Bible
For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David.
39 I said, “I will watch my ways, so that I don’t sin with my tongue.
I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me.”
2 I was mute with silence.
I held my peace, even from good.
My sorrow was stirred.
3 My heart was hot within me.
While I meditated, the fire burned.
I spoke with my tongue:
4 “Yahweh, show me my end,
what is the measure of my days.
Let me know how frail I am.
5 Behold, you have made my days hand widths.
My lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely every man stands as a breath.” Selah.
6 “Surely every man walks like a shadow.
Surely they busy themselves in vain.
He heaps up, and doesn’t know who shall gather.
7 Now, Lord, what do I wait for?
My hope is in you.
8 Deliver me from all my transgressions.
Don’t make me the reproach of the foolish.
9 I was mute.
I didn’t open my mouth,
because you did it.
10 Remove your scourge away from me.
I am overcome by the blow of your hand.
11 When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity,
you consume his wealth like a moth.
Surely every man is but a breath.” Selah.
12 “Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry.
Don’t be silent at my tears.
For I am a stranger with you,
a foreigner, as all my fathers were.
13 Oh spare me, that I may recover strength,
before I go away and exist no more.”

For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.
1 I said, “I will watch my ways(A)
and keep my tongue from sin;(B)
I will put a muzzle on my mouth(C)

While I meditated,(G) the fire(H) burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:
4 “Show me, Lord, my life’s end
and the number of my days;(I)
let me know how fleeting(J) my life is.(K)
5 You have made my days(L) a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath,(M)
even those who seem secure.[b]
6 “Surely everyone goes around(N) like a mere phantom;(O)
in vain they rush about,(P) heaping up wealth(Q)
without knowing whose it will finally be.(R)
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.(S)
