Salmos 33
Dios Habla Hoy
Alabanza y gratitud al Señor
33 Aclamen al Señor, hombres buenos;
en labios de los buenos, la alabanza es hermosa.
2 Den gracias al Señor al son del arpa,
cántenle himnos con música de salterio,
3 cántenle un nuevo canto,
¡toquen con arte al aclamarlo!
4 La palabra del Señor es verdadera;
sus obras demuestran su fidelidad.
5 El Señor ama lo justo y lo recto;
¡su amor llena toda la tierra!
6 Por la palabra del Señor
fueron hechos los cielos,
por el soplo de su boca,
todos los astros.
7 Él junta y almacena
las aguas del mar profundo.
8 Honren al Señor todos en la tierra;
¡hónrenlo todos los habitantes del mundo!
9 Pues él habló, y todo fue hecho;
y ve a todos los hombres;
14 desde el lugar donde vive
observa a los que habitan la tierra;
15 él es quien formó sus corazones
y quien vigila todo lo que hacen.
16 Ningún rey se salva por su gran ejército,
ni se salvan los valientes por su mucha fuerza;
17 los caballos no sirven para salvar a nadie;
aunque son muy poderosos, no pueden salvar.
18 Pero el Señor cuida siempre
de quienes lo honran y confían en su amor,
19 para salvarlos de la muerte
y darles vida en épocas de hambre.
20 Nosotros confiamos en el Señor;
¡él nos ayuda y nos protege!
21 Nuestro corazón se alegra en el Señor;
confiamos plenamente en su santo nombre.
22 ¡Que tu amor, Señor, nos acompañe,
tal como esperamos de ti!

praise from the upright is fitting.(A)

II
6 By the Lord’s word the heavens were made;
by the breath of his mouth all their host.[b](D)
7 [c]He gathered the waters of the sea as a mound;
he sets the deep into storage vaults.(E)
III
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all who dwell in the world show him reverence.
9 For he spoke, and it came to be,
commanded, and it stood in place.(F)
10 The Lord foils the plan of nations,
frustrates the designs of peoples.
11 But the plan of the Lord stands forever,
the designs of his heart through all generations.(G)
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people chosen as his inheritance.(H)
IV

and observes the children of Adam,(I)
14 From his dwelling place he surveys
all who dwell on earth.
15 The One who fashioned together their hearts
is the One who knows all their works.
V
16 A king is not saved by a great army,
nor a warrior delivered by great strength.
17 Useless is the horse for safety;
despite its great strength, it cannot be saved.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him,
upon those who count on his mercy,
19 To deliver their soul from death,
and to keep them alive through famine.
VI
20 Our soul waits for the Lord,
he is our help and shield.(J)
21 For in him our hearts rejoice;
in his holy name we trust.
22 May your mercy, Lord, be upon us;
as we put our hope in you.
Footnotes
- Psalm 33 A hymn in which the just are invited (Ps 33:1–3) to praise God, who by a mere word (Ps 33:4–5) created the three-tiered universe of the heavens, the cosmic waters, and the earth (Ps 33:6–9). Human words, in contrast, effect nothing (Ps 33:10–11). The greatness of human beings consists in God’s choosing them as a special people and their faithful response (Ps 33:12–22).
- 33:6 All their host: the stars of the sky are commonly viewed as a vast army, e.g., Neh 9:6; Is 40:26; 45:12; Jer 33:22.
- 33:7 The waters…as a mound: ancients sometimes attributed the power keeping the seas from overwhelming land to a primordial victory of the storm-god over personified Sea.
Psalm 33
Complete Jewish Bible
33 Rejoice in Adonai, you righteous!
Praise is well-suited to the upright.
2 Give thanks to Adonai with the lyre,
sing praises to him with a ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing to him a new song,
make music at your best among shouts of joy.
4 For the word of Adonai is true,
and all his work is trustworthy.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the grace of Adonai.
6 By the word of Adonai the heavens were made,
and their whole host by a breath from his mouth.
7 He collects the sea waters together in a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear Adonai!
Let all living in the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spoke, and there it was;
he commanded, and there it stood.
10 Adonai brings to nothing the plans of nations,
he foils the plans of the peoples.
11 But the counsel of Adonai stands forever,
his heart’s plans are for all generations.
12 How blessed is the nation whose God is Adonai,
the people he chose as his heritage!
13 Adonai looks out from heaven;
he sees every human being;
14 from the place where he lives
he watches everyone living on earth,
15 he who fashioned the hearts of them all
and understands all they do.
16 A king is not saved by the size of his army,
a strong man not delivered by his great strength.
17 To rely on a horse for safety is vain,
nor does its great power assure escape.
18 But Adonai’s eyes watch over those who fear him,
over those who wait for his grace
19 to rescue them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 We are waiting for Adonai;
he is our help and shield.
21 For in him our hearts rejoice,
because we trust in his holy name.
22 May your mercy, Adonai, be over us,
because we put our hope in you.
