Oración de un afligido

Oración del que sufre, cuando está angustiado y delante de Jehová derrama su lamento.

102 Jehová, escucha mi oración
y llegue a ti mi clamor.
2 No escondas de mí tu rostro
en el día de mi angustia;
inclina a mí tu oído;
apresúrate a responderme el día que te invoque,
3 porque mis días se desvanecen como el humo
y mis huesos cual tizón están quemados.
4 Mi corazón está herido
y seco como la hierba,
por lo cual me olvido de comer mi pan.
5 Por la voz de mi gemido
mis huesos se han pegado a mi carne.
6 Soy semejante al pelícano del desierto;
soy como el búho de las soledades;
7 Me desvelo y soy
como un pájaro solitario sobre el tejado.
8 Cada día me deshonran mis enemigos.
Los que se burlan de mí
ya se han conjurado en mi contra.
9 Por lo cual yo como ceniza a manera de pan
y mi bebida mezclo con lágrimas,
10 a causa de tu enojo y de tu ira,
pues me alzaste y me has arrojado.
11 Mis días son como una sombra que se va
y me he secado como la hierba.

12 Mas tú, Jehová, permanecerás para siempre
y tu memoria de generación en generación.
13 Te levantarás y tendrás misericordia de Sión,
porque es tiempo de tener misericordia de ella,
porque el plazo ha llegado,
14 porque tus siervos aman sus piedras
y del polvo de ella tienen compasión.
15 Entonces las naciones temerán el nombre de Jehová
y todos los reyes de la tierra tu gloria,
16 por cuanto Jehová habrá edificado a Sión
y en su gloria será visto.
17 Habrá considerado la oración de los desvalidos
y no habrá desechado el ruego de ellos.

18 Se escribirá esto para la generación venidera
y el pueblo que está por nacer alabará a Jah,
19 porque miró desde lo alto de su santuario;
miró Jehová desde los cielos a la tierra
20 para oír el gemido de los presos,
para soltar a los sentenciados a muerte,
21 para que se publique en Sión el nombre de Jehová
y su alabanza en Jerusalén,
22 cuando los pueblos y los reinos se congreguen
en uno para servir a Jehová.

23 Él debilitó mi fuerza en el camino;
acortó mis días.
24 Dije: «¡Dios mío,
no me cortes en la mitad de mis días!
¡Por generación y generación son tus años!»
25 Desde el principio tú fundaste la tierra,
y los cielos son obra de tus manos.
26 Ellos perecerán, mas tú permanecerás;
y todos ellos como una vestidura se envejecerán,
como un vestido los mudarás y serán mudados;
27 pero tú eres el mismo
y tus años no se acabarán.

102 Escucha, Señor, mi oración;
    llegue a ti mi clamor.
2 No escondas de mí tu rostro
    cuando me encuentro angustiado.
Inclina a mí tu oído;
    respóndeme pronto cuando te llame.

3 Pues mis días se desvanecen como el humo;
    los huesos me arden como brasas.
4 Mi corazón decae y se marchita como la hierba;
    ¡hasta he perdido el apetito!
5 Por causa de mis fuertes quejidos
    se pueden contar mis huesos.[a]
6 Parezco un búho del desierto;
    soy como un búho entre las ruinas.
7 No logro conciliar el sueño;
    parezco ave solitaria sobre el techo.
8 A todas horas me insultan mis enemigos,
    y hasta usan mi nombre para maldecir.
9 Las cenizas son todo mi alimento;
    mis lágrimas se mezclan con mi bebida.
10 Por tu enojo, por tu indignación
    me levantaste para luego arrojarme.
11 Mis días son como sombras nocturnas;
    me voy marchitando como la hierba.

12 Pero tú, Señor, reinas eternamente;
    tu nombre perdura por todas las generaciones.
13 Te levantarás y tendrás piedad de Sión,
    pues ya es tiempo de que la compadezcas.
    ¡Ha llegado el momento señalado!
14 Tus siervos sienten cariño por sus ruinas;
    los mueven a compasión sus escombros.
15 Las naciones temerán el nombre del Señor;
    todos los reyes de la tierra reconocerán tu gloria.
16 Porque el Señor reconstruirá a Sión
    y se manifestará en su gloria.
17 Atenderá a la oración de los desamparados
    y no despreciará sus ruegos.

18 Que se escriba esto para las generaciones futuras
    y que el pueblo que será creado alabe al Señor.
19 Miró el Señor desde su altísimo santuario;
    contempló la tierra desde el cielo,
20 para oír los lamentos de los cautivos
    y liberar a los condenados a muerte;
21 para proclamar en Sión el nombre del Señor
    y anunciar en Jerusalén su alabanza,
22 cuando todos los pueblos y los reinos
    se reúnan para adorar al Señor.

23 En el curso de mi vida acabó Dios con mis fuerzas;[b]
    me redujo los días.
24 Por eso dije:
«No me lleves, Dios mío, a la mitad de mi vida;
    tú permaneces por todas las generaciones.
25 En el principio tú afirmaste la tierra,
    y los cielos son la obra de tus manos.
26 Ellos perecerán, pero tú permaneces.
    Todos ellos se desgastarán como un vestido;
como ropa los cambiarás
    y los dejarás de lado.
27 Pero tú eres siempre el mismo
    y tus años no tienen fin.
28 Los hijos de tus siervos se establecerán
    y sus descendientes habitarán en tu presencia».

Psalm 102[a]

The prayer of an oppressed man, as he grows faint and pours out his lament before the Lord.

102 O Lord, hear my prayer.
Pay attention to my cry for help.[b]
2 Do not ignore me in my time of trouble.[c]
Listen to me.[d]
When I call out to you, quickly answer me.
3 For my days go up in smoke,[e]
and my bones are charred as in a fireplace.[f]
4 My heart is parched[g] and withered like grass,
for I am unable[h] to eat food.[i]
5 Because of the anxiety that makes me groan,
my bones protrude from my skin.[j]
6 I am like an owl[k] in the wilderness;
I am like a screech owl[l] among the ruins.[m]
7 I stay awake;[n]
I am like a solitary bird on a roof.
8 All day long my enemies taunt me;
those who mock me use my name in their curses.[o]
9 For I eat ashes as if they were bread,[p]
and mix my drink with my tears,[q]
10 because of your anger and raging fury.
Indeed,[r] you pick me up and throw me away.
11 My days are coming to an end,[s]
and I am withered like grass.
12 But you, O Lord, rule forever,[t]
and your reputation endures.[u]
13 You will rise up and have compassion on Zion.[v]
For it is time to have mercy on her,
for the appointed time has come.
14 Indeed,[w] your servants take delight in her stones,
and feel compassion for[x] the dust of her ruins.[y]
15 The nations will respect the reputation of the Lord,[z]
and all the kings of the earth will respect[aa] his splendor,
16 when the Lord rebuilds Zion,
and reveals his splendor,
17 when he responds to the prayer of the destitute,[ab]
and does not reject[ac] their request.[ad]
18 The account of his intervention[ae] will be recorded for future generations;
people yet to be born[af] will praise the Lord.
19 For he will look down from his sanctuary above;[ag]
from heaven the Lord will look toward earth,[ah]
20 in order to hear the painful cries of the prisoners,
and to set free those condemned to die,[ai]
21 so they may proclaim the name of the Lord in Zion,
and praise him[aj] in Jerusalem,
22 when the nations gather together,
and the kingdoms pay tribute to the Lord.[ak]
23 He has taken away my strength in the middle of life;[al]
he has cut short my days.
24 I say, “O my God, please do not take me away in the middle of my life.[am]
You endure through all generations.[an]
25 In earlier times you established the earth;
the skies are your handiwork.
26 They will perish,
but you will endure.[ao]
They will wear out like a garment;
like clothes you will remove them and they will disappear.[ap]
27 But you remain;[aq]
your years do not come to an end.
28 The children of your servants will settle down here,
and their descendants[ar] will live securely in your presence.”[as]

The point seems to be this: Anxiety (which causes the psalmist to groan) keeps him from eating (v. 4). This physical deprivation in turn makes him emaciated—he is turned to “skin and bones,” so to speak.
  11. Psalm 102:6 tn The Hebrew term קָאַת (qaʾat) refers to some type of bird (see Lev 11:18; Deut 14:17) that was typically found near ruins (see Zeph 2:14). Modern translations have frequently rendered this as some type of owl (NIV, REB “desert owl”; NRSV “owl”).
  12. Psalm 102:6 tn The Hebrew term כוֹס (khos) refers to a bird (see Lev 11:17; Deut 14:16), probably a type of owl (cf. NIV, REB “owl”; NRSV “little owl”).
  13. Psalm 102:6 sn By comparing himself to a screech owl among the ruins, the psalmist may be highlighting his loneliness (see v. 7), though he may also be comparing his cries for help to the owl’s screech.
  14. Psalm 102:7 tn This probably refers to the psalmist’s inability to sleep. Another option is to translate, “I keep watch,” in which case it might refer to watching for a response from the Lord (see vv. 1-2).
  15. Psalm 102:8 tn Heb “by me they swear.” When the psalmist’s enemies call judgment down on others, they hold the psalmist up as a prime example of what they desire their enemies to become.

  24. Psalm 102:14 tn The Poel of חָנַן (khanan) occurs only here and in Prov 14:21, where it refers to having compassion on the poor.
