58 (A)Al direttore del coro. «Non distruggere».

È proprio secondo giustizia che voi parlate, o potenti?
Giudicate voi rettamente i figli degli uomini?
2 Anzi, in cuor vostro commettete iniquità;
nel paese, voi gettate nella bilancia la violenza delle vostre mani.
3 Gli empi sono sviati fin dal grembo materno,
i bugiardi sono traviati fin dalla nascita.
4 Hanno veleno simile a quello di serpente,
sono sordi come aspide che si tura le orecchie
5 per non udire la voce degli incantatori,
del mago esperto d’incantesimi.
6 O Dio, spezza loro i denti in bocca;
o Signore, fracassa le mascelle dei leoni!
7 Si disperdano come acqua che scorre via;
possano tirare solo frecce spuntate.
8 Siano come lumaca che si scioglie strisciando;
come aborto di donna, non vedano il sole.
9 Prima che le vostre pentole sentano il fuoco del rovo,
verde o acceso che sia il legno, lo porti via la bufera[a].
10 Il giusto si rallegrerà nel vedere la punizione,
si laverà i piedi nel sangue dell’empio,
11 e la gente dirà: «Certo, vi è una ricompensa per il giusto;
certo, c’è un Dio che fa giustizia sulla terra!»

The Just Judgment of the Wicked
To the Chief Musician. Set to [a]“Do Not Destroy.” A Michtam of David.
58 Do you indeed speak righteousness, you silent ones?
Do you judge uprightly, you sons of men?
2 No, in heart you work wickedness;
You weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth.
3 (A)The wicked are estranged from the womb;
They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.
4 (B)Their poison is like the poison of a serpent;
They are like the deaf cobra that stops its ear,
5 Which will not (C)heed the voice of charmers,
Charming ever so skillfully.
6 (D)Break[b] their teeth in their mouth, O God!
Break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
7 (E)Let them flow away as waters which run continually;
When he bends his bow,
Let his arrows be as if cut in pieces.
8 Let them be like a snail which melts away as it goes,
(F)Like a stillborn child of a woman, that they may not see the sun.
9 Before your (G)pots can feel the burning thorns,
He shall take them away (H)as with a whirlwind,
As in His living and burning wrath.
10 The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the (I)vengeance;
(J)He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked,
11 (K)So that men will say,
“Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
Surely He is God who (L)judges in the earth.”

58 «Al maestro del coro. Sul motivo: "Non distruggere". Inno di Davide.» E proprio secondo giustizia che parlate, o potenti? Giudicate voi rettamente, o figli degli uomini?
2 Nel vostro cuore voi concepite invece malvagità, le vostre mani dispensano sulla terra violenza.
3 Questi empi si sono corrotti fin dal grembo materno; questi bugiardi si sono sviati fin dalla nascita.
4 Il loro veleno è simile al veleno del serpente, sono come l'aspide sordo che si tura le orecchie.
5 per non udire la voce degli incantatori o di chi è abile nel fare incantesimi.
6 O DIO, spezza loro i denti in bocca; o Eterno, rompi le zanne dei leoni.
7 Si dissolvano come acqua che scorre via. Quando tira le sue frecce, siano esse come dardi spuntati.
8 Siano come lumaca che si scioglie mentre va; come aborto di donna non vedano il sole.
9 Prima che le vostre pentole sentano il fuoco dei rovi, siano essi verdi o accesi, egli le spazzerà via come un turbine.
10 Il giusto si rallegrerà nel vedere la vendetta; si laverà i piedi nel sangue dell'empio.
11 E la gente dirà: «Certo vi è una ricompensa per il giusto; certo c'è un DIO che fa giustizia sulla terra».
