5 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:
10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.
11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
27 And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.
28 And he left all, rose up, and followed him.
29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.
30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.
32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
33 And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?
34 And he said unto them, Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
36 And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.
37 And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
38 But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.
39 No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

5 Một lần nọ, Đức Giê-su đang đứng bên bờ hồ Ghê-nê-sa-rết, trong khi đoàn dân chen lấn quanh Ngài để nghe Lời Đức Chúa Trời, 2 Ngài thấy hai chiếc thuyền đậu gần bờ, nhưng các ngư phủ đã rời thuyền đi giặt lưới. 3 Ngài lên một chiếc thuyền của Si-môn và bảo ông chèo ra khỏi bờ một chút. Ngài ngồi trên thuyền, và dạy dỗ dân chúng.
4 Dạy xong, Ngài bảo Si-môn: “Hãy chèo ra ngoài sâu, thả lưới kéo một mẻ cá!”
5 Si-môn đáp: “Thưa Thầy,[a] chúng con đã nhọc nhằn suốt đêm mà không bắt được gì, nhưng theo lời Thầy, con sẽ bủa lưới!”
6 Họ thả lưới xuống, bắt được nhiều cá đến nỗi lưới sắp rách. 7 Vậy, họ ra dấu gọi bạn chài trên thuyền khác đến giúp. Các người kia đến chất cá đầy hai thuyền, đến nỗi gần chìm.
8 Thấy thế, Si-môn Phê-rơ quỳ xuống dưới chân Đức Giê-su mà thưa: “Lạy Chúa, xin lìa khỏi con, vì con là người tội lỗi!” 9 Vì ông và các bạn chài đều kinh hãi về mẻ lưới họ vừa kéo lên, 10 cả Gia-cơ và Giăng, con Xê-bê-đê là đồng bạn của Phê-rơ cũng vậy. Đức Giê-su bèn bảo Si-môn: “Con đừng sợ, từ nay trở đi, con sẽ cứu vớt người!”[b] 11 Họ kéo thuyền lên bờ, rồi bỏ tất cả mà theo Ngài.
Chúa Chữa Bệnh Phung(B)
12 Khi Đức Giê-su vào một thành kia, Ngài gặp một người đàn ông bị phung đầy mình. Vừa thấy Ngài, anh sấp mặt xuống đất, van xin: “Lạy Chúa, nếu Ngài muốn, Ngài có thể chữa sạch bệnh con!”
13 Ngài đưa tay sờ anh, bảo: “Được, hãy sạch đi!” Lập tức bệnh phung biến mất.
14 Ngài căn dặn anh đừng nói cho ai biết, nhưng hãy trình diện thầy tế lễ và dâng tế lễ về việc chữa sạch như Môi-se đã truyền, để làm bằng chứng cho họ.
15 Tuy nhiên, tin tức về Ngài lại càng được đồn rộng đến nỗi nhiều đoàn dân đông kéo đến nghe Ngài và để được Ngài chữa lành. 16 Nhưng Ngài lui vào những nơi thanh vắng mà cầu nguyện.

17 Một hôm, Đức Giê-su đang dạy dỗ, người Pha-ri-si và giáo sư Kinh Luật từ các làng mạc Ga-li-lê, Giu-đê và thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều có mặt. Quyền năng của Chúa[c] ở trong Ngài để chữa bệnh. 18 Bấy giờ, người ta khiêng một người bại liệt nằm trên cáng và tìm cách đem vào trong nhà để đặt trước mặt Ngài. 19 Nhưng vì đoàn dân đông đảo, không cách nào đem người bại vào được, nên họ leo lên mái, dỡ ngói, dòng người bại nằm trên cáng xuống giữa đám đông, ngay trước mặt Đức Giê-su.
20 Ngài thấy đức tin của họ, nên bảo: “Này con, tội lỗi con đã được tha rồi!”
21 Các giáo sư Kinh Luật và người Pha-ri-si bắt đầu suy luận: “Người này là ai mà dám nói phạm thượng thế? Ngoài Đức Chúa Trời, còn ai có quyền tha tội.”
22 Nhưng Đức Giê-su biết sự suy luận trong tâm trí họ nên hỏi: “Tại sao các ngươi suy luận trong lòng như thế? 23 Bảo rằng: ‘Tội lỗi con đã được tha’ hoặc là: ‘Hãy đứng dậy mà đi?’ điều nào dễ hơn? 24 Nhưng để các ngươi biết trên đời này, Con Người có quyền tha tội.” Ngài bảo người bại: “Ta bảo con, hãy đứng dậy, vác cáng đi về nhà!” 25 Lập tức, người bại đứng dậy trước mặt họ, vác cáng mình đi về nhà, tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời. 26 Mọi người cũng đều kinh ngạc và tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời. Lòng họ đầy sợ hãi và nói: “Hôm nay, chúng ta đã thấy những việc diệu kỳ!”

27 Sau đó, Đức Giê-su đi ra, thấy một người thu thuế tên Lê-vi đang ngồi tại trạm thu thuế, Ngài bảo: “Hãy theo Ta!” 28 Ông đứng dậy, bỏ tất cả, đi theo Ngài.
29 Lê-vi dọn một tiệc lớn đãi Ngài tại nhà mình. Có một đám đông gồm nhiều người thu thuế và những người khác cùng dự tiệc. 30 Các người Pha-ri-si và các giáo sư Kinh Luật phàn nàn với các môn đệ Ngài: “Tại sao các anh ăn uống với bọn thu thuế và kẻ tội lỗi?”
31 Đức Giê-su đáp: “Người khỏe mạnh không cần thầy thuốc, nhưng người đau yếu mới cần. 32 Ta không đến để kêu gọi người công chính, nhưng để kêu gọi những người tội lỗi ăn năn.”
33 Họ hỏi Ngài: “Các môn đệ Giăng cũng như các môn đệ người Pha-ri-si thường kiêng ăn cầu nguyện, nhưng các môn đệ Thầy lại ăn uống như thường!”
34 Đức Giê-su đáp: “Các ông có thể bắt các chàng phụ rể[d] kiêng ăn khi chàng rể còn ở với họ không? 35 Khi nào[e] chàng rể bị đem đi khỏi, lúc bấy giờ họ mới kiêng ăn.”
36 Ngài cũng kể ngụ ngôn này cho họ nghe: “Không ai xé vải áo mới vá vào áo cũ. Làm như thế sẽ rách áo mới, mà miếng vải mới cũng không hợp với áo cũ. 37 Cũng không ai đổ rượu mới[f] vào bầu da cũ. Như thế, rượu mới sẽ làm nứt bầu cũ, rượu chảy hết mà bầu cũ cũng hư luôn, 38 nhưng rượu mới phải đổ vào bầu mới. 39 Không ai đã uống rượu cũ lại đòi rượu mới, vì người nói rằng: ‘Rượu cũ ngon hơn!’ ”[g]

Jesus Calls His First Disciples(A)
5 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,[a] the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.(B) 2 He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.(C)
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”(D)
5 Simon answered, “Master,(E) we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.(F) But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.(G) 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”(H) 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.
Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid;(I) from now on you will fish for people.” 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.(J)
Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(K)
12 While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[b](L) When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Then Jesus ordered him, “Don’t tell anyone,(M) but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded(N) for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
15 Yet the news about him spread all the more,(O) so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.(P)
Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(Q)
17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law(R) were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.(S) 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”(T)
21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(U)
22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(V) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.(W) They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(X)
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,”(Y) Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.(Z)
29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors(AA) and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect(AB) complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”(AC)
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”(AD)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(AE)
33 They said to him, “John’s disciples(AF) often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”
34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom(AG) fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them;(AH) in those days they will fast.”
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”
