Ruth 4:5-7
English Standard Version
5 Then Boaz said, “The day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth[a] the Moabite, the widow of the dead, in order (A)to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance.” 6 (B)Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 (C)Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, the one drew off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was the manner of attesting in Israel.

Ruth 4:5-7
New International Version
5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the land from Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite,(A) the[a] dead man’s widow, in order to maintain the name of the dead with his property.”(B)
6 At this, the guardian-redeemer said, “Then I cannot redeem(C) it because I might endanger my own estate. You redeem it yourself. I cannot do it.”(D)
7 (Now in earlier times in Israel, for the redemption(E) and transfer of property to become final, one party took off his sandal(F) and gave it to the other. This was the method of legalizing transactions(G) in Israel.)(H)
