^14 (A)Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without ^(B)a redeemer, and may his name ^(C)be renowned in Israel!

⁵⁸ And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord ^(A)had shown great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her.

²⁶ If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, ^(A)all rejoice together.

Taste and See That the Lord Is Good

^[a] Of David, when he ^(A)changed his behavior before ^(B)Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.

^2 (A)And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Thanksgiving

^3 (A)We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers,^[a] as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.

^18 (A)give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

^15 (A)Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

¹² And after the deportation to Babylon: ^(I)Jechoniah was the father of ^(J)Shealtiel,^[c] and ^(K)Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, ¹³ and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, ¹⁴ and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, ¹⁵ and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, ¹⁶ and Jacob the father of ^(L)Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

¹⁷ So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to ^(M)the Christ fourteen generations.

The Birth of Jesus Christ

¹⁸ Now the birth of ^(N)Jesus Christ^[d] took place in this way. ^(O)When his mother Mary had been betrothed^[e] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child ^(P)from the Holy Spirit. ¹⁹ And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling ^(Q)to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. ²⁰ But as he considered these things, behold, ^(R)an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
