¹² and, through the children that the Lord will give you by this young woman, may your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah.”^(A)

²⁹ But just then he drew back his hand and out came his brother, and she said, “What a breach you have made for yourself!” Therefore he was named Perez.^[a](A)

⁴ His daughter-in-law Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.^(A)

²⁰ Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the Lord repay^[a] you with children by this woman for the loan that she made to^[b] the Lord,” and then they would return to their home.^(A)

¹⁸ Now these are the descendants of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron,^(A)

²⁰ The descendants of Judah by their clans were: of Shelah, the clan of the Shelanites; of Perez, the clan of the Perezites; of Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites. ²¹ The descendants of Perez were: of Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the clan of the Hamulites. ²² These are the clans of Judah by the number of those enrolled: seventy-six thousand five hundred.^(A)
