He said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth, your servant; spread your cloak over your servant, for you are next-of-kin.”[a](A) 10 He said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, my daughter; this last instance of your loyalty is better than the first; you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, do not be afraid, I will do for you all that you ask, for all the assembly of my people know that you are a worthy woman.(B) 12 But now, though it is true that I am a near kinsman, there is another kinsman more closely related than I.(C) 13 Remain this night, and in the morning, if he will act as next-of-kin[b] for you, good; let him do it. But if he is not willing to act as next-of-kin[c] for you, then, as the Lord lives, I will act as next-of-kin[d] for you. Lie down until the morning.”(D)

14 So she lay at his feet until morning but got up before one person could recognize another, for he said, “It must not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”

10 “The Lord bless you,(C) my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier:(D) You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. 11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.(E) 12 Although it is true that I am a guardian-redeemer of our family,(F) there is another who is more closely related than(G) I. 13 Stay here for the night, and in the morning if he wants to do his duty as your guardian-redeemer,(H) good; let him redeem you. But if he is not willing, as surely as the Lord lives(I) I will do it.(J) Lie here until morning.”

14 So she lay at his feet until morning, but got up before anyone could be recognized; and he said, “No one must know that a woman came to the threshing floor.(K)(L)
