16 When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “[a]How did it go, my daughter?” And she told her all that the man had done for her. 17 She also said, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, ‘Do not go to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’” 18 Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter [b]turns out; for the man will not rest until he has [c]settled it today.”

16 When Ruth[a] returned to her mother-in-law, Naomi[b] asked her, “How did it go, my daughter?”

Then she related everything that the man had done for her. 17 Ruth[c] also said, “He gave me these six units[d] of barley and told me, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’”[e]

18 Naomi[f] replied, “Be patient, my daughter, until you learn how this works out, because the man won’t rest until he finishes everything today.”
