Naomi Returns with Ruth

Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had (A)visited[a] His people by (B)giving them bread. Therefore she went out from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, (C)“Go, return each to her mother’s house. (D)The Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt (E)with the dead and with me. So she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 And they said to her, “Surely we will return with you to your people.”

Naomi and Ruth Return to Bethlehem

When Naomi heard in Moab(A) that the Lord had come to the aid of his people(B) by providing food(C) for them, she and her daughters-in-law(D) prepared to return home from there. With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah.

Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of you, to your mother’s home.(E) May the Lord show you kindness,(F) as you have shown kindness to your dead husbands(G) and to me. May the Lord grant that each of you will find rest(H) in the home of another husband.”

Then she kissed(I) them goodbye and they wept aloud(J) 10 and said to her, “We will go back with you to your people.”

11 But Naomi said, “Return home, my daughters. Why would you come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could become your husbands?(K)

14 Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth (A)clung to her.

15 And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to (B)her people and to her gods; (C)return after your sister-in-law.”

16 But Ruth said:

(D)“Entreat[a] me not to leave you,
Or to turn back from following after you;
For wherever you go, I will go;
And wherever you lodge, I will lodge;
(E)Your people shall be my people,
And your God, my God.
17 Where you die, I will die,
And there will I be buried.
(F)The Lord do so to me, and more also,
If anything but death parts you and me.”

18 (G)When she saw that she [b]was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.
