4 Más tarde, Booz fue a sentarse a la entrada del pueblo, que era el lugar donde se reunía la gente. En aquel momento pasaba por allí el pariente del cual Booz había hablado.
—Oye —le dijo Booz—, ven acá y siéntate.
El pariente fue y se sentó. 2 En seguida Booz llamó a diez ancianos del pueblo, y también les pidió que se sentaran con él. Cuando ellos se sentaron, 3 Booz le dijo a su pariente:
—Noemí, que ha vuelto de Moab, está decidida a vender el terreno que perteneció a nuestro pariente Elimélec. 4 Quiero que lo sepas, para que, si te interesa comprarlo, lo hagas ahora delante de estos testigos y de los ancianos del pueblo. Como tú eres el pariente más cercano de Elimélec, tienes el derecho de comprar su tierra. Pero si tú no la compras, házmelo saber, pues después de ti yo soy quien tiene ese derecho.
El pariente contestó:
—La compro.
5 Entonces Booz le hizo esta aclaración:
—Ten en cuenta que si compras el terreno de Noemí, quedas también obligado a casarte con Rut, la viuda moabita, para que la propiedad siga a nombre del difunto.
6 Al oír esto, el pariente contestó:
—En ese caso no puedo hacer la compra, porque podría perjudicar mi herencia. Pero si tú quieres comprar, hazlo; yo te cedo mis derechos de compra.
7 En aquellos tiempos había en Israel una costumbre: cuando uno cedía a otro el derecho de parentesco, o cuando se cerraba un contrato de compra-venta, el que cedía o vendía se quitaba una sandalia y se la daba al otro. De acuerdo, pues, con esta costumbre, 8 el pariente de Booz se quitó la sandalia, se la dio a Booz y le dijo:
—Compra tú.
9 Entonces Booz dijo a los ancianos y a los allí presentes:
—Todos ustedes son hoy testigos de que le compro a Noemí las propiedades de Elimélec, Quilión y Mahlón. 10 También son testigos de que tomo por esposa a Rut, la viuda moabita, para que la propiedad se mantenga a nombre de Mahlón, su difunto esposo. Así no se borrará el nombre de Mahlón de entre los suyos, ni será olvidado en este pueblo. Hoy son ustedes testigos.
11 Los ancianos y todos los presentes contestaron:
—Sí, lo somos. ¡El Señor haga que la mujer que va a entrar en tu casa sea como Raquel y Lía, de quienes descendemos todos los israelitas! Y tú, sé un hombre ilustre en Efrata, un hombre notable en Belén. 12 Que el Señor te dé muchos hijos de esta mujer. Que tengas una familia numerosa, como la tuvo Fares, el hijo de Tamar y Judá.
13 Así fue como Booz se casó con Rut. Y se unió a ella, y el Señor permitió que quedara embarazada y que tuviera un hijo.
14 Entonces las mujeres decían a Noemí:
—¡Alabado sea el Señor, que te ha dado hoy un nieto para que cuide de ti! ¡Ojalá tu nieto sea famoso en Israel! 15 Él te dará ánimos y te sostendrá en tu vejez, porque es el hijo de tu nuera, la que tanto te quiere y que vale para ti más que siete hijos.
16 Noemí tomó al niño en su regazo y se encargó de criarlo. 17 Al verlo, las vecinas decían:
—¡Le ha nacido un hijo a Noemí!
Y le pusieron por nombre Obed. Éste fue el padre de Jesé y abuelo de David.

18 Éstos fueron los descendientes de Fares: Fares fue el padre de Hesrón, 19 Hesrón fue el padre de Ram, Ram fue el padre de Aminadab, 20 Aminadab fue el padre de Nahasón, Nahasón fue el padre de Salmón, 21 Salmón fue el padre de Booz, Booz fue el padre de Obed, 22 Obed fue el padre de Jesé, y Jesé fue el padre de David.

Booz se casa con Rut
4 Booz subió a la puerta y se sentó allí; y he aquí pasaba aquel pariente de quien Booz había hablado, y le dijo: Eh, fulano, ven acá y siéntate. Y él vino y se sentó. 2 Entonces él tomó a diez varones de los ancianos de la ciudad, y dijo: Sentaos aquí. Y ellos se sentaron. 3 Luego dijo al pariente: Noemí, que ha vuelto del campo de Moab, vende una parte de las tierras que tuvo nuestro hermano Elimelec. 4 Y yo decidí hacértelo saber, y decirte que la compres en presencia de los que están aquí sentados, y de los ancianos de mi pueblo. Si tú quieres redimir, redime; y si no quieres redimir, decláramelo para que yo lo sepa; porque no hay otro que redima sino tú, y yo después de ti. Y él respondió: Yo redimiré.
5 Entonces replicó Booz: El mismo día que compres las tierras de mano de Noemí, debes tomar también a Rut la moabita, mujer del difunto, para que restaures el nombre del muerto sobre su posesión. 6 Y respondió el pariente: No puedo redimir para mí, no sea que dañe mi heredad. Redime tú, usando de mi derecho, porque yo no podré redimir.
7 Había ya desde hacía tiempo esta costumbre en Israel tocante a la redención y al contrato, que para la confirmación de cualquier negocio, el uno se quitaba el zapato y lo daba a su compañero; y esto servía de testimonio en Israel. 8 Entonces el pariente dijo a Booz: Tómalo tú. Y se quitó el zapato.(A) 9 Y Booz dijo a los ancianos y a todo el pueblo: Vosotros sois testigos hoy, de que he adquirido de mano de Noemí todo lo que fue de Elimelec, y todo lo que fue de Quelión y de Mahlón. 10 Y que también tomo por mi mujer a Rut la moabita, mujer de Mahlón, para restaurar el nombre del difunto sobre su heredad, para que el nombre del muerto no se borre de entre sus hermanos y de la puerta de su lugar. Vosotros sois testigos hoy. 11 Y dijeron todos los del pueblo que estaban a la puerta con los ancianos: Testigos somos. Jehová haga a la mujer que entra en tu casa como a Raquel y a Lea, las cuales edificaron la casa de Israel;(B) y tú seas ilustre en Efrata, y seas de renombre en Belén. 12 Y sea tu casa como la casa de Fares, el que Tamar dio a luz a Judá,(C) por la descendencia que de esa joven te dé Jehová.
13 Booz, pues, tomó a Rut, y ella fue su mujer; y se llegó a ella, y Jehová le dio que concibiese y diese a luz un hijo. 14 Y las mujeres decían a Noemí: Loado sea Jehová, que hizo que no te faltase hoy pariente, cuyo nombre será celebrado en Israel; 15 el cual será restaurador de tu alma, y sustentará tu vejez; pues tu nuera, que te ama, lo ha dado a luz; y ella es de más valor para ti que siete hijos. 16 Y tomando Noemí el hijo, lo puso en su regazo, y fue su aya. 17 Y le dieron nombre las vecinas, diciendo: Le ha nacido un hijo a Noemí; y lo llamaron Obed. Este es padre de Isaí, padre de David.
18 Estas son las generaciones de Fares:(D) Fares engendró a Hezrón, 19 Hezrón engendró a Ram, y Ram engendró a Aminadab, 20 Aminadab engendró a Naasón, y Naasón engendró a Salmón, 21 Salmón engendró a Booz, y Booz engendró a Obed, 22 Obed engendró a Isaí, e Isaí engendró a David.

Bô-a Thành Hôn với Ru-tơ
4 Bô-a đi đến cổng thành và ngồi xuống. Kìa, người bà con có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp mà Bô-a đã nói đi ngang qua. Bô-a nói với ông ấy, “Mời anh tẻ bước lại đây và ngồi xuống bàn chút việc.” Người ấy tẻ bước lại gần và ngồi xuống.
2 Bô-a mời mười vị trưởng lão trong thành lại và nói, “Kính mời quý vị ngồi đây.” Các vị trưởng lão bèn ngồi xuống.
3 Bấy giờ Bô-a nói với người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp, “Na-ô-mi đã từ đồng bằng Mô-áp trở về; bà ấy muốn bán miếng đất thuộc về Ê-li-mê-léc, người anh em bà con của chúng ta. 4 Vì thế tôi nghĩ tôi phải báo cho anh biết và xin anh rằng: Trước mặt những người có mặt ở đây và trước mặt quý vị trưởng lão của dân ta, xin anh hãy mua miếng đất ấy. Nếu anh muốn chuộc sản nghiệp đó, xin anh hãy chuộc nó; còn không, xin anh nói ra cho tôi biết, vì trước anh không ai có quyền đó, còn sau anh quyền đó thuộc về tôi.”
Người ấy đáp, “Tôi sẽ chuộc miếng đất ấy.”
5 Bô-a lại nói, “Ngày anh làm sở hữu chủ cánh đồng của Na-ô-mi cũng là ngày anh phải cưới Ru-tơ người Mô-áp, góa phụ của người quá cố, để nối danh người đã qua đời trên sản nghiệp của người ấy.”
6 Nghe thế người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp nói, “Nếu vậy tôi không thể chuộc sản nghiệp ấy được, vì nó có thể tổn hại đến sản nghiệp của tôi. Xin anh hãy nhận lấy quyền chuộc sản nghiệp ấy đi, vì tôi không thể chuộc nó được.”
7 Thuở ấy trong dân I-sơ-ra-ên có tục lệ như thế này về việc chuộc mua hay đổi chác: Ðể xác quyết sự giao dịch, người này phải cởi một chiếc giày của mình mà trao cho người kia. Ðó là cách người I-sơ-ra-ên ngày xưa xác chứng sự thỏa thuận với nhau trong việc lập khế ước. 8 Vậy người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp nói với Bô-a, “Xin anh hãy mua sản nghiệp đó đi.” Rồi ông ta cởi chiếc giày của ông ra.
9 Bấy giờ Bô-a nói với các vị trưởng lão và mọi người có mặt tại đó, “Kính xin quý vị làm chứng cho rằng hôm nay tôi chuộc miếng đất nơi tay Na-ô-mi, cùng tất cả những gì thuộc về Ê-li-mê-léc, và tất cả những gì thuộc về Ki-li-ôn và Mác-lôn. 10 Tôi cũng xin cưới Ru-tơ người Mô-áp vợ của Mác-lôn để làm vợ tôi và để nối danh người quá cố trên sản nghiệp của người ấy, hầu danh của người quá cố sẽ không bị mất giữa vòng bà con mình và giữa dân cư của thành mình. Hôm nay kính xin quý vị vui lòng làm chứng cho.”
11 Bấy giờ mọi người đang có mặt tại cổng thành và các vị trưởng lão đều nói, “Chúng tôi xin làm chứng. Cầu xin Chúa ban phước cho người phụ nữ sắp vào nhà ông được như Ra-chên và Lê-a, hai người đã cùng nhau xây dựng nhà I-sơ-ra-ên. Nguyện ông được cường thịnh ở Ép-ra-tha và được nổi danh ở Bết-lê-hem. 12 Nguyện dòng dõi Chúa cho ông do người nữ này sinh ra sẽ làm cho nhà ông giống như nhà của Pê-rê mà Ta-ma đã sinh cho Giu-đa.”

13 Vậy Bô-a lấy Ru-tơ làm vợ. Ông đến với nàng. Chúa cho nàng thụ thai, và nàng sinh một con trai. 14 Bấy giờ các phụ nữ nói với bà Na-ô-mi, “Chúc tụng Chúa, Ðấng đã không để cho bà chẳng có người bà con nào chuộc lại sản nghiệp. Nguyện danh người ấy được tôn trọng trong I-sơ-ra-ên. 15 Nguyện đứa cháu này làm tươi mới lại cuộc đời bà và làm người phụng dưỡng bà trong tuổi già, vì con dâu của bà thương yêu bà và đã sinh cho bà cháu trai này. Người con dâu ấy thật quý cho bà hơn bảy con trai.”
16 Na-ô-mi bồng đứa bé lên, ôm nó vào lòng, và làm người vú nuôi của nó. 17 Các bà trong xóm đặt tên cho nó và nói, “Na-ô-mi đã có được một cháu trai.” Họ đặt tên nó là Ô-bết. Ô-bết là cha của Giê-se; Giê-se là cha của Ða-vít.
18 Ðây là dòng dõi của Pê-rê: Pê-rê sinh Hê-xơ-rôn; 19 Hê-xơ-rôn sinh Ram; Ram sinh Am-mi-na-đáp; 20 Am-mi-na-đáp sinh Nát-sôn; Nát-sôn sinh Sanh-môn; 21 Sanh-môn sinh Bô-a; Bô-a sinh Ô-bết; 22 Ô-bết sinh Giê-se; và Giê-se sinh Ða-vít.

3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:
4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman.
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bare a son.
14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,
19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
