3 După o vreme Naomi, soacra ei, i-a zis:
– Copila mea, aş vrea să-ţi găsesc un loc de odihnă, unde să-ţi fie bine. 2 Oare Boaz, cu ale cărui slujnice ai fost, nu este el rudă cu noi? Iată că la noapte îşi va vântura orzul în arie. 3 Tu spală-te, unge-te, pune-ţi mantia pe tine şi coboară la aria de treierat. Să nu te faci însă cunoscută lui până nu termină de mâncat şi de băut. 4 Şi când se va duce să se culce, să ţii minte locul unde se va culca. Apoi să te duci într-acolo, să-i dezveleşti picioarele şi să te culci. După aceea îţi va spune el ce trebuie să faci.
5 – Voi face tot ce mi-ai spus! i-a răspuns ea.
6 Rut a coborât la aria de treierat şi a făcut întocmai cum o sfătuise soacra ei. 7 După ce a mâncat şi a băut, Boaz, mulţumit în inima lui, s-a întins să se culce la marginea unui stog. Atunci ea s-a apropiat încet, i-a dezvelit picioarele şi s-a culcat acolo. 8 Pe la miezul nopţii omul s-a speriat; el s-a aplecat şi iată că o femeie era culcată la picioarele sale.
9 – Cine eşti tu? a întrebat el.
– Sunt eu, Rut, slujnica ta! i-a răspuns ea. Întinde-ţi marginea mantiei peste slujitoarea ta,[a] căci tu eşti cel cu drept de răscumpărare!
10 – Binecuvântată să fii de Domnul, copila mea, a zis el. Dragostea pe care ai arătat-o la urmă spune mai mult decât ceea ce ai făcut prima dată, de vreme ce nu ai umblat după cei tineri, fie ei săraci sau bogaţi. 11 De aceea, copila mea, nu te teme! Voi face pentru tine tot ce mi-ai spus, deoarece în toată cetatea se ştie că eşti o femeie cinstită. 12 Este adevărat că eu am drept de răscumpărare, dar mai există cineva, mai apropiat decât mine, care are şi el acest drept. 13 Deocamdată înnoptează aici, iar mâine dimineaţă voi afla dacă acea persoană va dori să te răscumpere. Dacă el nu va dori să te răscumpere, viu este Domnul că te voi răscumpăra eu! Deci culcă-te aici până dimineaţă!
14 Ea a rămas culcată la picioarele lui până spre dimineaţă, trezindu-se mai înainte ca oamenii să se poată vedea unii pe alţii, deoarece Boaz îi spusese:
– Să nu se afle că a intrat o femeie în arie pe timp de noapte!
15 De asemenea, Boaz i-a mai zis:
– Adu-mi mantia ta şi ţine-o bine!
Ea a ţinut-o, iar el i-a măsurat şase măsuri de orz. După ce i-a pus povara în spate, Boaz[b] a pornit spre cetate.
16 Când Rut a ajuns la soacra sa, aceasta a întrebat-o:
– Cum a fost, copila mea?
Rut i-a istorisit tot ce a făcut omul acela pentru ea. 17 Apoi a încheiat zicând:
– Mi-a mai dat şi aceste şase măsuri de orz, spunându-mi: „Să nu te întorci cu mâinile goale la soacra ta.“
18 Naomi i-a zis:
– Aşteaptă, copila mea, până vei vedea ce întorsătură vor lua lucrurile, dar îţi spun că omul acesta nu-şi va găsi liniştea până nu va lămuri lucrurile chiar astăzi.

3 Y DÍJOLE su suegra Noemi: Hija mía, ¿no te tengo de buscar descanso, que te sea bueno?
2 ¿No es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas mozas tú has estado? He aquí que él avienta esta noche la parva de las cebadas.
3 Te lavarás pues, y te ungirás, y vistiéndote tus vestidos, pasarás á la era; mas no te darás á conocer al varón hasta que él haya acabado de comer y de beber.
4 Y cuando él se acostare, repara tú el lugar donde él se acostará, é irás, y descubrirás los pies, y te acostarás allí; y él te dirá lo que hayas de hacer.
5 Y le respondió: Haré todo lo que tú me mandares.
6 Descendió pues á la era, é hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.
7 Y como Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estuvo contento, retiróse á dormir á un lado del montón. Entonces ella vino calladamente, y descubrió los pies, y acostóse.
8 Y aconteció, que á la media noche se estremeció aquel hombre, y palpó: y he aquí, la mujer que estaba acostada á sus pies.
9 Entonces él dijo: ¿Quién eres? Y ella respondió: Yo soy Ruth tu sierva: extiende el borde de tu capa sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.
10 Y él dijo: Bendita seas tú de Jehová, hija mía; que has hecho mejor tu postrera gracia que la primera, no yendo tras los mancebos, sean pobres ó ricos.
11 Ahora pues, no temas, hija mía: yo haré contigo lo que tú dijeres, pues que toda la puerta de mi pueblo sabe que eres mujer virtuosa.
12 Y ahora, aunque es cierto que yo soy pariente cercano, con todo eso hay pariente más cercano que yo.
13 Reposa esta noche, y cuando sea de día, si él te redimiere, bien, redímate; mas si él no te quisiere redimir, yo te redimiré, vive Jehová. Descansa pues hasta la mañana.
14 Y después que reposó á sus pies hasta la mañana, levantóse, antes que nadie pudiese conocer á otro. Y él dijo: No se sepa que haya venido mujer á la era.
15 Después le dijo: Llega el lienzo que traes sobre ti, y ten de él. Y teniéndolo ella, él midió seis medidas de cebada, y púsoselas á cuestas: y vínose ella á la ciudad.
16 Así que vino á su suegra, ésta le dijo: ¿Qué pues, hija mía? Y declaróle ella todo lo que con aquel varón le había acontecido.
17 Y dijo: Estas seis medidas de cebada me dió, diciéndome: Porque no vayas vacía á tu suegra.
18 Entonces Noemi dijo: Reposa, hija mía, hasta que sepas como cae la cosa: porque aquel hombre no parará hasta que hoy concluya el negocio.

3 Then Naomi her mother in law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2 And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.
3 Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4 And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.
5 And she said unto her, All that thou sayest unto me I will do.
6 And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her.
7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.
8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.
10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the Lord liveth: lie down until the morning.
14 And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor.
15 Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city.
16 And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17 And she said, These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty unto thy mother in law.
18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.
