Rut en el campo de Booz
2 Noemí tenía un pariente[a] de su marido, un hombre de mucha riqueza[b], de la familia de Elimelec(A), el cual se llamaba Booz. 2 Y Rut la moabita dijo a Noemí: «Te ruego que me dejes ir al campo a recoger espigas(B) en pos de aquel a cuyos ojos halle gracia». Ella le respondió: «Ve, hija mía». 3 Partió, pues, y espigó en el campo en pos de los segadores; y fue a[c] la parte del campo que pertenecía a Booz, que era de la familia de Elimelec. 4 En ese momento vino Booz de Belén, y dijo a los segadores: «El Señor sea con ustedes(C)». «Que el Señor te bendiga», le respondieron ellos. 5 Entonces Booz dijo a su siervo que estaba a cargo de[d] los segadores: «¿De quién es esta joven?». 6 Y el siervo a cargo de los segadores respondió: «Es la joven moabita que volvió con Noemí de la tierra de Moab. 7 Y ella me dijo: “Te ruego que me dejes espigar y recoger tras los segadores entre las gavillas”. Y vino y ha permanecido desde la mañana hasta ahora; solo se ha sentado en la casa por un momento».
Rut y Booz
8 Entonces Booz dijo a Rut: «Oye[e], hija mía. No vayas a espigar a otro campo; tampoco pases de aquí, sino quédate con mis criadas. 9 Fíjate en el campo donde ellas siegan y síguelas, pues he ordenado a los siervos que no te molesten[f]. Cuando tengas sed, ve a las vasijas y bebe del agua que sacan los siervos». 10 Ella bajó su rostro, se postró en tierra(D) y le dijo: «¿Por qué he hallado gracia ante sus ojos para que se fije en mí, siendo yo extranjera?». 11 Booz le respondió: «Todo lo que has hecho por tu suegra después de la muerte de tu esposo me ha sido informado en detalle, y cómo dejaste a tu padre, a tu madre y tu tierra natal, y viniste a un pueblo que antes no conocías. 12 Que el Señor recompense tu obra(E) y que tu pago sea completo de parte del Señor, Dios de Israel, bajo cuyas alas has venido a refugiarte(F)». 13 Entonces ella dijo: «Señor mío, he hallado gracia ante sus ojos, porque me ha consolado y en verdad ha hablado con bondad a su[g] sierva, aunque yo no soy ni como una de sus criadas».
14 A la hora de comer, Booz le dijo a Rut: «Ven acá[h] para que comas del pan y mojes tu pedazo de pan en el vinagre». Así pues ella se sentó junto a los segadores. Booz le sirvió[i] grano tostado, y ella comió hasta saciarse y aún le sobró(G). 15 Cuando ella se levantó para espigar, Booz ordenó a sus siervos y les dijo: «Déjenla espigar aun entre las gavillas y no la avergüencen. 16 También sacarán a propósito para ella un poco de grano de los manojos y lo dejarán para que ella lo recoja. No la reprendan».
17 Rut espigó en el campo hasta el anochecer, y desgranó lo que había espigado, y fue como 22 litros de cebada. 18 Ella lo tomó y fue a la ciudad, y su suegra vio lo que había recogido. Rut sacó también lo que le había sobrado después de haberse saciado[j] y se lo dio a Noemí[k](H). 19 Entonces su suegra le dijo: «¿Dónde espigaste y dónde trabajaste hoy? Bendito sea aquel que se fijó en ti(I)». Y ella informó a su suegra con quién había trabajado, y dijo: «El hombre con quien trabajé hoy se llama Booz». 20 Noemí dijo a su nuera: «Sea él bendito del Señor, porque no ha rehusado Su bondad ni a los vivos ni a los muertos(J)». Le dijo también Noemí: «El hombre es nuestro pariente[l]; es uno de nuestros parientes más cercanos». 21 Entonces Rut la moabita dijo: «Además[m], él me dijo: “Debes estar cerca de mis siervos hasta que hayan terminado toda mi cosecha”». 22 Noemí dijo a Rut su nuera: «Es bueno, hija mía, que salgas con sus criadas, no sea que en otro campo te maltraten[n]». 23 Y Rut se quedó cerca de las criadas de Booz espigando hasta que se acabó la cosecha(K) de cebada y de trigo. Y ella vivía con su suegra.

Rut trabaja en el campo de Booz
2 1-2 Pocos días después, Rut le dijo a Noemí:
—Déjame ir a recoger espigas. Seguramente los que cosechan en los campos me dejarán seguirlos para recoger las espigas que vayan quedando.
Noemí le dijo:
—Anda, hija mía.
3 Entonces Rut se fue a un campo de cebada y comenzó a recoger las espigas que dejaban los trabajadores. Sin saberlo, Rut tuvo la buena suerte de ir a trabajar al campo de un familiar de Elimélec, el difunto esposo de Noemí. Ese familiar se llamaba Booz, y además era muy rico y muy importante en Belén.
4 Ocurrió que ese día Booz salió de Belén para vigilar el trabajo en sus campos. Cuando llegó al campo, saludó a los trabajadores:
—¡Que Dios los cuide a todos!
Y ellos respondieron:
—¡Que Dios te siga bendiciendo!
5 Luego Booz le preguntó al jefe de los trabajadores:
—¿Quién es esa muchacha?
6 El jefe contestó:
—Es la muchacha de Moab que vino con Noemí. 7 Me suplicó que la dejara recoger las espigas que se les caen a los trabajadores. Desde que llegó en la mañana, ha estado trabajando duramente, y apenas ahora está tomando un corto descanso en la choza.
8 Booz llamó a Rut y le dijo:
—Oye bien lo que te voy a decir: no vayas a recoger espigas en otros campos; quédate aquí 9 y acompaña a mis trabajadoras. Mira bien por dónde van, y síguelas. Les he ordenado a mis trabajadores que no te molesten. Cuando tengas sed, ve y toma agua de las jarras que ellos han llenado.
10 Entonces Rut, en señal de humildad, se inclinó hasta tocar el suelo con la frente, y le preguntó a Booz:
—¿Por qué es usted tan amable conmigo? ¿Por qué se preocupa tanto por mí, si soy una simple extranjera?
11 Booz le contestó:
—Ya me han contado todo lo que has hecho por tu suegra, después de que murió tu esposo. Sé que dejaste a tu familia y tu país para venir a vivir con nosotros, que somos gente totalmente desconocida para ti. 12 ¡Que Dios te premie por todo lo que has hecho! ¡Que el Dios de Israel, en quien ahora buscas protección, te haga mucho bien!
13 Entonces Rut le dijo a Booz:
—¡Muchas gracias, señor! Usted es muy bueno conmigo y me ha hecho sentir bien, aunque ni siquiera soy como una de sus criadas.
14 A la hora de comer, Booz invitó a Rut y le dijo:
—Ven, acércate; aquí hay pan, salsa y granos tostados.
Rut fue y se sentó a comer junto con todos los demás trabajadores. Comió hasta quedar satisfecha, y hasta le sobró comida para llevarle a su suegra.
15 Cuando Rut regresó a recoger espigas, Booz ordenó a los trabajadores:
—Dejen que Rut también recoja espigas donde están los manojos de cebada. 16 Además, dejen caer espigas de sus propios manojos para que ella las pueda recoger. Y no la molesten.
17 Rut estuvo recogiendo espigas hasta que empezó a oscurecer. Cuando separó el grano de las espigas, se dio cuenta de que había recogido más de veinte kilos de cebada. 18 Tomó la cebada y regresó a Belén para mostrarle a su suegra todo lo que había recogido ese día. También le dio a Noemí la comida que le había quedado. Noemí, entonces preguntó:
19 —¿Dónde estuviste trabajando hoy? ¿Cómo es que pudiste recoger tanta cebada? ¡Qué Dios bendiga mucho a quien tanto te ha ayudado!
Rut le contó a su suegra que había estado trabajando en el campo de un señor llamado Booz. 20 Por eso Noemí le dijo:
—¡Que Dios lo bendiga! ¡Qué bueno es ese hombre con nosotras y con nuestros familiares muertos! Déjame decirte que ese hombre es familiar de mi esposo, y de acuerdo con nuestras leyes tiene el deber de protegernos.
21 Rut añadió:
—Pues él me dijo que podía quedarme a trabajar con las demás trabajadoras hasta que se termine la cosecha de cebada.
22 Entonces Noemí le dijo a Rut:
—¡Qué bueno, hija mía! Quédate a trabajar en el campo de Booz. Y no te alejes de sus trabajadores, para que nadie te moleste.
23 Rut siguió recogiendo espigas con las trabajadoras de Booz hasta que terminó la cosecha de cebada y de trigo. Mientras tanto, vivía con su suegra.

2 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz.
2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
3 And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4 And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless thee.
5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this?
6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab:
7 And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.
8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither go from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens:
9 Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.
10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?
11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.
12 The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.
13 Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaid, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
14 And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15 And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16 And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.
17 So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.
18 And she took it up, and went into the city: and her mother in law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth, and gave to her that she had reserved after she was sufficed.
19 And her mother in law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to day? and where wroughtest thou? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man's name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.
20 And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.
21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, He said unto me also, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest.
22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter in law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, that they meet thee not in any other field.
23 So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother in law.
