Encuentro de Rut con Booz
2 Noemí tenía por parte de su esposo un pariente que se llamaba Booz. Era un hombre rico e influyente de la familia de Elimélec.
2 Y sucedió que Rut, la moabita, dijo a Noemí:
—Permíteme ir al campo a recoger las espigas que vaya dejando alguien a quien yo le agrade.
—Anda, hija mía —respondió su suegra.
3 Rut salió y comenzó a recoger espigas en el campo, detrás de los segadores. Y dio la casualidad de que el campo donde estaba trabajando pertenecía a Booz, el pariente de Elimélec.
4 En eso llegó Booz desde Belén y saludó a los segadores:
—¡Que el Señor esté con ustedes!
—¡Que el Señor lo bendiga! —respondieron ellos.
5 —¿De quién es esa joven? —preguntó Booz al capataz de sus segadores.
6 —Es una joven moabita que volvió de la tierra de Moab con Noemí —le contestó el capataz—. 7 Ella me rogó que la dejara recoger espigas de entre las gavillas, detrás de los segadores. No ha dejado de trabajar desde esta mañana que entró en el campo, hasta ahora que ha venido a descansar un rato en el cobertizo.[a]
8 Entonces Booz dijo a Rut:
—Escucha, hija mía. No vayas a recoger espigas a otro campo ni te alejes de aquí. Quédate junto a mis criadas, 9 fíjate bien en el campo donde se esté cosechando y síguelas. Ya les ordené a los criados que no te molesten. Y, cuando tengas sed, ve adonde están las vasijas y bebe del agua que los criados hayan sacado.
10 Rut se inclinó, se postró rostro en tierra y exclamó:
—¿Cómo es que le he caído tan bien a usted, hasta el punto de fijarse en mí, siendo solo una extranjera?
11 —Ya me han contado —respondió Booz—, todo lo que has hecho por tu suegra desde que murió tu esposo; cómo dejaste padre y madre, y la tierra donde naciste, y viniste a vivir con un pueblo que antes no conocías. 12 ¡Que el Señor te recompense por lo que has hecho! Que el Señor, Dios de Israel, bajo cuyas alas has venido a refugiarte, te lo pague con creces.
13 —¡Ojalá siga yo siendo de su agrado, mi señor! —contestó ella—. Usted me ha consolado y me ha hablado con cariño, aunque ni siquiera soy como una de sus criadas.
14 A la hora de comer, Booz le dijo:
—Ven acá. Sírvete pan y moja tu bocado en el vinagre.
Cuando Rut se sentó con los segadores, Booz le ofreció grano tostado. Ella comió, quedó satisfecha y hasta le sobró. 15 Después, cuando ella se levantó a recoger espigas, él dio estas órdenes a sus criados:
—Aun cuando saque espigas de las gavillas mismas, no la hagan pasar vergüenza. 16 Más bien, dejen caer algunas espigas de los manojos para que ella las recoja, ¡y no la reprendan!
17 Así que Rut recogió espigas en el campo hasta el atardecer. Luego desgranó la cebada que había recogido, la cual pesó casi un efa.[b] 18 La cargó de vuelta al pueblo y su suegra vio cuánto traía. Además, Rut entregó a su suegra lo que le había quedado después de haber comido hasta quedar satisfecha.
19 Su suegra preguntó:
—¿Dónde recogiste espigas hoy? ¿Dónde trabajaste? ¡Bendito sea el hombre que se fijó en ti!
Entonces Rut contó a su suegra acerca del hombre con quien había estado trabajando. Le dijo:
—El hombre con quien hoy trabajé se llama Booz.
20 —¡Que el Señor lo bendiga! —exclamó Noemí delante de su nuera—. El Señor no ha dejado de mostrar su fiel amor hacia los vivos y los muertos. Ese hombre es nuestro pariente cercano; es uno de los parientes que nos pueden redimir.
21 Rut, la moabita, añadió:
—Incluso me dijo que me quedara allí junto a sus criados hasta que terminaran de recogerle toda la cosecha.
22 —Hija mía, te conviene seguir con sus criadas —dijo Noemí—, para que no se aprovechen de ti en otro campo.
23 Así que Rut se quedó junto a las criadas de Booz para recoger espigas hasta que terminó la cosecha de la cebada y del trigo. Mientras tanto, vivía con su suegra.

2 Un día Rut le dijo a Noemí:
—Déjame que vaya al campo, a ver si algún segador me permite ir detrás de él recogiendo espigas.
—Ve, hija mía —le respondió su suegra.
3 Rut, pues, fue al campo y se puso a recoger las espigas que dejaban los segadores. Y tuvo la suerte de que aquel campo fuera de Booz, el pariente de Elimélec. 4 En eso, Booz llegó de Belén y saludó a los segadores:
—¡Que el Señor esté con ustedes!
—¡Que el Señor le bendiga a usted! —le respondieron ellos.
5 Luego Booz le preguntó al capataz de los segadores:
—¿De qué familia es esa muchacha?
6 El capataz le contestó:
—Es una moabita, que vino de Moab con Noemí. 7 Me pidió permiso para ir detrás de los segadores recogiendo espigas, y se ha pasado trabajando toda la mañana, hasta ahora mismo que ha venido a descansar un poco.
8 Entonces Booz le dijo a Rut:
—Escucha, hija mía, no vayas a recoger espigas a ningún otro campo. Quédate aquí, con mis criadas, 9 y luego síguelas a donde veas que los segadores están trabajando. Ya he dado órdenes a mis criados para que nadie te moleste. Cuando tengas sed, ve a donde están las vasijas del agua y toma de la que ellos sacan.
10 Rut se inclinó hasta el suelo en señal de respeto, y le preguntó a Booz:
—¿Por qué se ha fijado usted en mí y es tan amable conmigo, siendo yo una extranjera?
11 Booz respondió:
—Sé muy bien todo lo que has hecho por tu suegra desde que murió tu marido, y también sé que dejaste a tus padres y a tu patria por venir a vivir con nosotros, que éramos gente desconocida para ti. 12 ¡Que Dios te lo pague! ¡Que el Señor y Dios de Israel, en quien has buscado amparo, te premie por todo lo que has hecho!
13 Ella le contestó:
—Usted es muy amable conmigo, y sus palabras me llenan de aliento. Me ha hablado usted con cariño, aunque yo ni siquiera soy como una de sus criadas.
14 A la hora de comer, Booz llamó a Rut y le dijo:
—Ven acá, toma un pedazo de pan y mójalo en esta salsa de vinagre.
Rut se sentó junto a los segadores, y Booz le dio grano tostado. Ella comió hasta quedar satisfecha, y todavía le sobró. 15 Luego, cuando fue otra vez a recoger espigas, Booz ordenó a sus criados:
—Dejen que también recoja espigas entre los manojos de cebada. No se lo impidan. 16 Y aun dejen caer algunas espigas de sus propios manojos, para que ella las recoja. ¡Que nadie la moleste!
17 Rut recogió espigas en el campo de Booz hasta que llegó la noche. Y lo recogido por ella dio, al desgranarlo, más de veinte kilos de cebada. 18 Regresó entonces a la ciudad cargada con el grano, y fue a mostrárselo a su suegra. Después sacó lo que le había sobrado de la comida y se lo dio a Noemí.
19 —¿Dónde trabajaste hoy? —le preguntó Noemí—. ¿Dónde recogiste tantas espigas? ¡Bendito sea el que te ha ayudado de esa manera!
Rut le contó a su suegra con quién había estado trabajando.
—El hombre con quien he trabajado se llama Booz —le dijo.
20 Y Noemí le contestó:
—¡Que el Señor lo bendiga! Él ha sido bondadoso con nosotras ahora, como antes lo fue con los que ya han muerto. Ese hombre es pariente cercano de nosotras, y por eso es uno de los que tienen el deber de protegernos.
21 Rut añadió:
—También me dijo que siga yo trabajando con sus criadas hasta que se termine la cosecha.
22 Entonces Noemí respondió a su nuera:
—Hija mía, me parece bien que te quedes con sus criadas y que no vayas a ningún otro campo, para que nadie te moleste.
23 Rut siguió, pues, recogiendo espigas con las criadas de Booz hasta que se terminó la cosecha de la cebada y el trigo. Mientras tanto, vivía en compañía de su suegra.

Ruth Meets Boaz
2 Now Naomi had (A)a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was (B)Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and (C)glean among the ears of grain after him (D)in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech. 4 And behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, (E)“The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.” 5 Then Boaz said to his young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?” 6 And the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite woman, (F)who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves after the reapers.’ So she came, and she has continued from early morning until now, except for a short rest.”[a]
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. 9 Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.” 10 Then (G)she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should (H)take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?” 11 But Boaz answered her, (I)“All that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband has been fully told to me, and how you left your father and mother and your native land and came to a people that you did not know before. 12 (J)The Lord repay you for what you have done, and a full reward be given you by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge!” 13 Then she said, (K)“I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not one of your servants.”
14 And at mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the wine.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her roasted grain. And she ate until (L)she was satisfied, and she had some left over. 15 When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. 16 And also pull out some from the bundles for her and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her.”
17 So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah[b] of barley. 18 And she took it up and went into the city. Her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She also brought out and gave her what food she had left over (M)after being satisfied. 19 And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where did you glean today? And where have you worked? Blessed be the man (N)who took notice of you.” So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, “The man's name with whom I worked today is Boaz.” 20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, (O)“May he be blessed by the Lord, whose kindness has not forsaken (P)the living or the dead!” Naomi also said to her, “The man is a close relative of ours, one of (Q)our redeemers.” 21 And Ruth the Moabite said, “Besides, he said to me, ‘You shall keep close by my young men until they have finished all my harvest.’” 22 And Naomi said to Ruth, her daughter-in-law, “It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his young women, lest in another field you be assaulted.” 23 So she kept close to the young women of Boaz, gleaning until the end of the barley and wheat harvests. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

Ruth Meets Boaz in the Grain Field
2 Now Naomi had a relative(A) on her husband’s side, a man of standing(B) from the clan of Elimelek,(C) whose name was Boaz.(D)
2 And Ruth the Moabite(E) said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain(F) behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.(G)”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters.(H) As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.(I)
4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The Lord be with you!(J)”
“The Lord bless you!(K)” they answered.
5 Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young woman belong to?”
6 The overseer replied, “She is the Moabite(L) who came back from Moab with Naomi. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves(M) behind the harvesters.’ She came into the field and has remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest(N) in the shelter.”
8 So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the women who work for me. 9 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the women. I have told the men not to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.”
10 At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground.(O) She asked him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me(P)—a foreigner?(Q)”
11 Boaz replied, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law(R) since the death of your husband(S)—how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know(T) before.(U) 12 May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord,(V) the God of Israel,(W) under whose wings(X) you have come to take refuge.(Y)”
13 “May I continue to find favor in your eyes,(Z) my lord,” she said. “You have put me at ease by speaking kindly to your servant—though I do not have the standing of one of your servants.”
14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here. Have some bread(AA) and dip it in the wine vinegar.”
When she sat down with the harvesters,(AB) he offered her some roasted grain.(AC) She ate all she wanted and had some left over.(AD) 15 As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, “Let her gather among the sheaves(AE) and don’t reprimand her. 16 Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke(AF) her.”
17 So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed(AG) the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah.[a](AH) 18 She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over(AI) after she had eaten enough.
19 Her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!(AJ)”
Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,” she said.
20 “The Lord bless him!(AK)” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law.(AL) “He has not stopped showing his kindness(AM) to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative;(AN) he is one of our guardian-redeemers.[b](AO)”
21 Then Ruth the Moabite(AP) said, “He even said to me, ‘Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.’”
22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It will be good for you, my daughter, to go with the women who work for him, because in someone else’s field you might be harmed.”
23 So Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley(AQ) and wheat harvests(AR) were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
