4 Bô-ô đi đến cửa thành và ngồi xuống, chẳng bao lâu thì người bà con có quyền chuộc tài sản mà Bô-ô đã nói, đi qua. Bô-ô bèn nói: “Mời anh đến đây và ngồi xuống.” Người ấy lại gần và ngồi xuống. 2 Bô-ô mời mười vị trưởng lão trong thành lại và nói: “Kính mời quý vị ngồi đây.” Các trưởng lão bèn ngồi xuống. 3 Bấy giờ Bô-ô nói với người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp rằng: “Na-ô-mi đã từ nước Mô-áp trở về, muốn bán miếng đất thuộc về Ê-li-mê-léc, là bà con chúng ta. 4 Nên tôi nghĩ tôi phải cho anh biết và xin anh rằng: trước mặt những người ngồi đây và trước mặt quý vị trưởng lão trong dân, xin anh hãy mua miếng đất ấy đi. Nếu anh muốn chuộc sản nghiệp đó, xin anh hãy chuộc nó đi. Còn không, xin anh hãy nói ra cho tôi biết. Vì trước anh, không ai có quyền đó; còn sau anh, quyền đó thuộc về tôi.”
Người ấy đáp: “Tôi sẽ chuộc miếng đất ấy.”
5 Bô-ô lại nói: “Ngày anh làm sở hữu chủ cánh đồng lúa của Na-ô-mi cũng là ngày anh phải tiếp nhận Ru-tơ, người Mô-áp, góa phụ của người đã chết, để nối danh người chết trên sản nghiệp người.”
6 Nghe thế, người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp nói: “Nếu vậy, tôi không thể chuộc sản nghiệp ấy được, vì nó có thể tổn hại đến sản nghiệp của tôi. Xin anh hãy nhận lấy quyền chuộc sản nghiệp ấy đi. Vì tôi không thể chuộc nó được.”
7 Khi ấy, trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên có tục lệ về việc chuộc mua hay đổi chác rằng: Để xác quyết sự giao dịch, người này phải cởi một chiếc giầy của mình mà trao cho người kia. Đây là cách mà người Y-sơ-ra-ên thỏa thuận với nhau trong việc khế ước ngày xưa. 8 Vậy, người có quyền chuộc sản nghiệp nói cùng Bô-ô: “Xin anh hãy chuộc mua sản nghiệp đó đi.” Rồi người cởi chiếc giầy của mình ra.
9 Bấy giờ Bô-ô nói cùng các vị trưởng lão và cả dân chúng rằng: “Hôm nay quý vị là những người làm chứng rằng tôi chuộc miếng đất nơi tay của Na-ô-mi, cùng tất cả những gì thuộc về Ê-li-mê-léc, và tất cả những gì thuộc về Ki-li-ôn và Mạc-lôn. 10 Tôi cũng xin nhận Ru-tơ, người Mô-áp, vợ của Mạc-lôn, để làm vợ tôi, và để nối danh người chết trên sản nghiệp người, hầu cho danh của người chết sẽ không bị mất giữa vòng bà con mình và giữa dân cư của thành mình. Hôm nay xin quý vị làm chứng cho.”
11 Bấy giờ cả dân chúng đang ở tại cổng thành và các trưởng lão đều nói rằng: “Chúng tôi xin làm chứng. Cầu xin CHÚA ban phước cho người nữ vào nhà ngươi sẽ như Ra-chên và Lê-a, là hai người cùng nhau xây dựng nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nguyện ngươi được cường thịnh ở Ép-ra-ta và nổi danh ở Bết-lê-hem. 12 Nguyện các con cái CHÚA cho ngươi do người nữ này sinh ra sẽ làm cho nhà ngươi giống như nhà của Pha-rết, mà Ta-ma đã sinh cho Giu-đa.”

13 Vậy Bô-ô lấy Ru-tơ làm vợ. Khi họ sống với nhau, CHÚA cho nàng có thai, và nàng sinh được một con trai. 14 Bấy giờ các bà nói với Na-ô-mi rằng: “Thật đáng chúc tụng CHÚA, là Đấng không để cho bà chẳng có người chuộc lại sản nghiệp của bà. Nguyện danh của người ấy được tôn trọng trong Y-sơ-ra-ên. 15 Người ấy sẽ khôi phục lại cuộc đời bà và là người giúp đỡ bà dưỡng già. Vì con dâu bà thương yêu bà, con dâu ấy quý cho bà hơn bảy con trai. Con dâu bà đã sinh con cho người ấy.”
16 Na-ô-mi bồng đứa trẻ đặt vào lòng mình và làm người vú nuôi nó. 17 Các bà trong xóm đặt tên cho nó và nói rằng: “Một đứa con trai đã sinh ra cho Na-ô-mi.” Họ đặt tên nó là Ô-bết. Ô-bết là cha của Y-sai, Y-sai là cha của Đa-vít.
18 Đây là dòng dõi của Pha-rết:
Pha-rết sinh Ếch-rôn,
19 Ếch-rôn sinh Ram,
Ram sinh A-mi-na-đáp,
20 A-mi-na-đáp sinh Na-ách-son,
Na-ách-son sinh Sanh-môn,

Boaz Redeems Ruth
4 Now Boaz had gone up to (A)the gate and sat down there. And behold, (B)the redeemer, of whom Boaz had spoken, came by. So Boaz said, “Turn aside, friend; sit down here.” And he turned aside and sat down. 2 And he took ten men (C)of the elders of the city and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down. 3 Then he said to the redeemer, “Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land that belonged to our relative Elimelech. 4 So I thought I would tell you of it and say, (D)‘Buy it in the presence of those sitting here and in the presence of the elders of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it. But if you[a] will not, tell me, that I may know, for there is no one besides you to redeem it, and I come after you.” And he said, “I will redeem it.” 5 Then Boaz said, “The day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth[b] the Moabite, the widow of the dead, in order (E)to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance.” 6 (F)Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 (G)Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, the one drew off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was the manner of attesting in Israel. 8 So when the redeemer said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself,” he drew off his sandal. 9 Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought from the hand of Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to (H)Chilion and to Mahlon. 10 Also Ruth the Moabite, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, (I)to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his native place. You are witnesses this day.” 11 Then all the people who were (J)at the gate and the elders said, “We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, (K)who together (L)built up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in (M)Ephrathah and (N)be renowned in Bethlehem, 12 and may your house be like the house of Perez, (O)whom Tamar bore to Judah, because (P)of the offspring that the Lord will give you by this young woman.”
Ruth and Boaz Marry
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, (Q)and the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 (R)Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without (S)a redeemer, and may his name (T)be renowned in Israel! 15 He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, (U)who is more to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her lap and became his nurse. 17 (V)And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.

18 Now these are the generations of Perez: (W)Perez fathered Hezron, 19 Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, 20 (X)Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, 21 Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, 22 Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.

Boaz Redeems Ruth
4 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there; and behold, (A)the close relative of whom Boaz had spoken came by. So Boaz said, “Come aside, [a]friend, sit down here.” So he came aside and sat down. 2 And he took ten men of (B)the elders of the city, and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down. 3 Then he said to the close relative, “Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, sold the piece of land (C)which belonged to our brother Elimelech. 4 And I thought to [b]inform you, saying, (D)‘Buy it back (E)in the presence of the inhabitants and the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if [c]you will not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; (F)for there is no one but you to redeem it, and I am next after you.’ ”
And he said, “I will redeem it.”
5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also buy it from Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, (G)to [d]perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance.”
6 (H)And the close relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 (I)Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging, to confirm anything: one man took off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was a confirmation in Israel.
8 Therefore the close relative said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself.” So he took off his sandal. 9 And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that was Chilion’s and Mahlon’s, from the hand of Naomi. 10 Moreover, Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have acquired as my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead through his inheritance, (J)that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from [e]his position at the gate. You are witnesses this day.”
11 And all the people who were at the gate, and the elders, said, “We are witnesses. (K)The Lord make the woman who is coming to your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who (L)built the house of Israel; and may you prosper in (M)Ephrathah and be famous in (N)Bethlehem. 12 May your house be like the house of (O)Perez, (P)whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of (Q)the offspring which the Lord will give you from this young woman.”
