Romans 9:30-33

30 (A)What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, laid hold of righteousness, even (B)the righteousness which is [a]by faith; 31 but Israel, (C)pursuing a law of righteousness, did not (D)attain that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it [b]by faith, but as though it were [c]by works. They stumbled over (E)the stumbling stone, 33 just as it is written,
“(F)Behold, I am laying in Zion (G)a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,
(H)And the one who believes upon Him (I)will not be put to shame.”

That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith: 31 but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. 32 Wherefore? [a]Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling; 33 even as it is written,
[b]Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence:
And he that believeth on [c]him shall not be put to shame.
