⁹ You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh^(A) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.^(B) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,^(C) they do not belong to Christ. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you,^(D) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life^[a] because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead^(E) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies^(F) because of^[b] his Spirit who lives in you.

¹² Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.^(G)

³ since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me.^(A) He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. ⁴ For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness,^(B) yet he lives by God’s power.^(C) Likewise, we are weak^(D) in him, yet by God’s power we will live with him^(E) in our dealing with you.

⁵ Examine yourselves^(F) to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.^(G) Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you^(H)—unless, of course, you fail the test? ⁶ And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test.

³ Join with me in suffering,^(A) like a good soldier^(B) of Christ Jesus. ⁴ No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. ⁵ Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown^(C) except by competing according to the rules. ⁶ The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.^{(D) 7} Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
