¹³ for if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.^(A)

⁸ If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh, but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit.^(A)

Live as Servants of God

¹¹ Beloved, I urge you as aliens and exiles to abstain from the desires of the flesh that wage war against the soul.^[a](A)

⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).^{(A) 6} On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient.^{[a](B) 7} These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life.^{[b] 8} But now you must get rid of all such things: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive^[c] language from your mouth.^(C)

²⁷ but I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.^(A)

¹² training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly,^(A)

²⁴ And those who belong to Christ^[a] have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.^(A)

²² to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts,^(A)

²² Now that you have purified your souls^[a] by your obedience to the truth^[b] so that you have genuine mutual affection, love one another deeply from the heart.^[c](A)

⁴ so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.^{[a](A) 5} For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit^[b] set their minds on the things of the Spirit.^{[c](B) 6} To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit^[d] is life and peace.^(C)
