⁹ Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.

¹⁰ For all who rely on the works of the law^(A) are under a curse,^(B) as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”^[a](C)

⁷ The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;^(A) it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

⁵ Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”^[a](A)

²¹ So I find this law at work:^(A) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. ²² For in my inner being^(B) I delight in God’s law;^{(C) 23} but I see another law at work in me, waging war^(D) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin^(E) at work within me.

⁶ But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law^(A) so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.^(B)

¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles^(A) at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.^{(B) 11} For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”^[a](C) also said, “You shall not murder.”^[b](D) If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

¹⁹ “For through the law I died to the law^(A) so that I might live for God.^(B)

¹¹ For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,^(A) deceived me,^(B) and through the commandment put me to death.
