For (A)if we have become [a]united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [b]in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our (B)old man was (C)crucified with Him, in order that our (D)body of sin might be [c]done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for (E)he who has died has been [d]justified from sin.

Now (F)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been (G)raised from the dead, [e]is never to die again; (H)death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be (I)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

If we were united together in a death like his, we will also be united together in a resurrection like his. This is what we know: the person that we used to be was crucified with him in order to get rid of the corpse that had been controlled by sin. That way we wouldn’t be slaves to sin anymore, because a person who has died has been freed from sin’s power. But if we died with Christ, we have faith that we will also live with him. We know that Christ has been raised from the dead and he will never die again. Death no longer has power over him. 10 He died to sin once and for all with his death, but he lives for God with his life. 11 In the same way, you also should consider yourselves dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.
