14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

Slaves to Righteousness

15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace?(D) By no means! 16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey(E)—whether you are slaves to sin,(F) which leads to death,(G) or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God(H) that, though you used to be slaves to sin,(I) you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching(J) that has now claimed your allegiance. 18 You have been set free from sin(K) and have become slaves to righteousness.(L)

19 I am using an example from everyday life(M) because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness(N) leading to holiness.

Slaves to Righteousness

15 What then? (C)Are we to sin (D)because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves (E)to anyone as obedient slaves,[a] you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But (F)thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the (G)standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, (H)having been set free from sin, (I)have become slaves of righteousness. 19 (J)I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For (K)just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members (L)as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

From Slaves of Sin to Slaves of God

15 What then? Should we sin because we are not under the law but under grace?(C) Absolutely not!(D) 16 Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone[a] as obedient slaves,(E) you are slaves of that one you obey(F)—either of sin leading to death(G) or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin,(H) you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were handed[b] over,(I) 18 and having been set free from sin,(J) you became enslaved to righteousness. 19 I am using a human analogy(K) because of the weakness of your flesh.[c] For just as you offered the parts of yourselves as slaves to impurity, and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification.

15 What then? (E)Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? (F)May it never be! 16 Do you not (G)know that when you present yourselves to someone as (H)slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of (I)sin [a]resulting in death, or of obedience [b]resulting in righteousness? 17 But (J)thanks be to God that [c]though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that (K)form of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and having been (L)freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 (M)I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.
